Just Finishing Up My “Photoshop CS3 Book for Digital Photographers.”

I’ve had lots of emails and posts about when I’m going to release the CS3 version of my “Photoshop CS3 Book for Digital Photographers.” Well, I’m delighted to let you know that I’m just wrapping up the latest edition and the book should be available in late June. I made an awful lot of changes since the last edition (for CS2), with completely “rewritten from the ground up” chapters on The CS3 Bridge, Camera Raw 4.0, Color Correction, and printing & color management.

I guess what surprised me the most was how many new techniques I’ve learned since the CS2 version of the book came out over two years ago. So, I not only added in the new features of CS3, I also updated a lot of the existing techniques with new settings or faster, better, easier or more effective ways to pull them off. Plus, of course I couldn’t help but add all my latest stuff, and my favorite new techniques, photo effects, photo fixes, and repair techniques.

The big challenge is keeping the book from becoming 700 or 800 pages long (most readers don’t like those huge unwieldy-sized book). This is more challenging than you might think, because each time a new version of Photoshop comes out, I add in all the new techniques for photographers, and this book started back on version 7, so if you add only 100 pages for each version, it’s not long before you’ve got a “phone book-sized” tome. So I carefully went through this new version to “cherry pick” only the best, most useful, most relevant techniques for the book (the real meat and potatoes of what serious photographers will really use), and the more obvious, or esoteric techniques will be available online just to people who buy the book at a special Web site I’m creating just for them. Of course, even with all that, the book is pretty darn big, but know that I did my level best to keep the page count under control.

If you want to be among the first to get it as soon as it comes off press, you can pre-order it from Amazon.com.

I thought the CS2 book was so well done, great layout, easy to read (yea why do some authors opt for tiny font?) and packed full of useful tips & techniques. Looking forward to your new book.

    Congratulation !
I’m sure that your CS3 book is very useful and helpful for digital photographers, as previous versions…

Keep up the good work! I’ve been a reader of yours for a while now. I’ve not run into anything that you have written that has not been helpful at some point for me. Your method of teaching in easy to understand language sets you apart for the rest of the “instructors.” I have purchased just about all of the books written by you and I will continue to do so.

    Scott,

Looking forward to your new book. By the way at Photoshop World there were some over filled sessions. They announced that there will be a web link to the recorded sessions at a later date. Do you happen to know what the link is many people that couldn’t get into the sessions that I spoke to only heard about the link no one seems to know what is is, only that it’s on the napp site somewhere. Scott if you can email me back, that would be great.

    Thanks,
    Bnei

    No..No..No! I don’t want to pre-order through Amazon.com; I want to pre-order from the NAPP website!

Linda S. and I have corresponded about this as well.

    Scott,

Looking forward to the next book (hey, can I and all my Photoshop buddies get partial credit for putting your kids through school… ;-)

A suggestion if I might be so bold… you’ve got the companion website, you know the ‘older’ one www.scottkelbybooks.com… why don’t you throw the tutorials that did NOT make the book out there? In this way, you keep the book ‘thin’ (relatively) and yet, for those who want more, you’ve given them a place to go.

Hey and no need to thank me… just a little blurb in the Acknowledgements section of the book will suffice (that is Gibson, G-I-B as in Boy, S-O-N).

    ;-)

    Hi Scott,

I just wanted to congratulate you on your success over the years. I just saw your USA Today post and I think it’s outstanding. You definitely deserved it. It has been fun to see NAPP grow, you guys have really came a long way.

I remember we used to send emails back and forth which seems like just yesterday. I remember my first contribution to PS User…remember the weathered steel texture? Wow things have changed. I still have the picture that Felix took of us at Photoshop World LA in February 2003. I actually have that poster on my wall right behind me. Still looks great till this day.

Anyway, I stumbled onto your blog…didn’t know you had one till now! It looks nice and active. Speaking of active, I noticed you are much leaner now and look fantastic. I know I need to hit the gym soon my self. Well take care of yourself. Thanks for all the cool tips.

Can’t wait to get this one. I’ve had the previous two (CS & CS2), two of the Elements versions (PSE3 & PSE5) and the new LIghtroom book. I’m a Kelby guy all the way, and I’ll be at the LIghtroom seminar in NYC next week.

Scott Ive been a big fan of yours since a photoshop class I had an opportunity to learn from you in the late 90’s. Your CS2 book is great, I thought I would read it in 2 days learn it never refer to it again. My battered copy of CS2 still sits next to my computer as a reference I frequently use.

Now that I have CS3 I cant wait to see what tips and tricks your new book has to reveal.

Will you be updating this book to cover the features in ACR 4.1? If yes, when (before it is published)? I will purchase the book after ACR 4.1 updates are incorporated.

    Thanks

I’m getting kind of desperate for mine! I just received an email from Amazon, for the fourth time, that the book will not be available until 09/06/2007 - 09/19/2007 :-(

It has been recommended so much to me, that I guess I’ll wait.

    Thank you,

    Gloria

Hi!!! I just bought your book, the Photshop Cs3 Book for digital photgrafers and is so fun to edit my pictures using your guide lines.

I also bougth, Digital Photografy, and I absolutely fell in love with it, I just finished reading it, and is sooo great, you give great tips in a very simple way. Really loved it!!

I just have one question, when I put a watermark signature with the copyright symbol, can I erase it later if someone wants to buy that picture for example, or do I also have to have a file with the pictures unmarked.

A great admirer form Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
