Friday News Update
Jun. 1
12:51 am
It’s Friday; I’m teaching Lightroom in Atlanta all day today, so how is it that I have news? It’s because I posted it at 1:00 am on Thursday night (I shouldn’t have had that fifth cup of coffee). Here’s what’s goin’ on:
- The Inside Digital Photo internet radio show (Podcast) did an in-depth interview with me, and it just got posted (you can just go to their site and click to listen to the interview right there on their Web page—no iPod necessary). Scott Shepard’s the host, and he asked some questions, and brought up some topics I don’t normally get asked, so I hope you’ll find it interesting. Here’s the link.
- Adobe has released a free update for the CS3 Bridge (Bringing the Bridge to version 2.1) and beside addressing some issues, it has streamlined and enhanced some existing features. For more details, and to download the free update, click here for the Mac version, or here for the Windows version.
- If you’re using Photoshop CS3 for Web Design, and you’re wondering where all the Web features that used to be in ImageReady (which came with every version of Photoshop since around Photoshop 5.5), went to, then check out this tech doc from Adobe, and the cloud of mystery will be lifted.
- The Photographers Journey blog did a cool article for Firefox Browser users, called “The Top 10 Firefox Extensions for Photographers.” You can read it right here.
- Matt’s GAPW Photography and Photoshop workshop in Banff has just a few seats left (it’s coming up on June 13-17, 2007), so if you want learn from one of the top pros in the business, in one of the most beautiful settings for landscape photography in all of North America, sign up quick at GAPW’s Web site (The Great American Photographic Workshops), at GAphotoworks.com
- Looking for some free, cool grungy Photoshop borders for your images? Look no further (click here).
- The buzz is already HUGE over the new features in yesterday’s release of Camera Raw 4.1. If you didn’t download it yet, scroll down to yesterday’s post (from Gate A17) and check it out.
- On the heels of Adobe’s Camera Raw 4.1 release, if you use Lightroom you should DEFINITELY go and read Lightroom Product Manager Tom Hogarty’s Adobe blog. Lots of fascinating details nestled among his details.
- If you’re wondering if people are diggin’ Adobe’s new CS3 Creative Suite, and Photoshop CS3? Check out Forbe’s online article titled, “Adobe Rises With Positive Analyst Notes” (by the way, the answer is—–they are. BIG TIME!).
Well, that’s it from the Marriott in Atlanta! Hope to see some of you in class tomorrow!

Scott,
Thanks for the borders, good luck in Atlanta and we’re still looking forward to seeing you soon in Chicago.
Hi Scott,
Thanks for this edition of Friday’s news. Plenty to get on with there so have a great time in Atlanta and a great weekend too.
Regards, Glyn
Hey Scott,
Thanks for the email last night. I was wondering how you have the energy to email me at 12:41AM. 5 cups of coffee!??! Wow. Have a great day teaching Lightroom.
Scott:
Thank you for a great seminar today here in Atlanta.
Bill
Scott,
Just finished a Prom shoot for a client and used lightroom to import, manage and develop the pics. Having your book has made using LR much easier & quicker and made my images look much better! Thanks!! Can’t wait for your CS3 to be done!
Looking forward to seeing you @ LR in NYC. I’ll be the one asking for the autographed book…corny I know, but I read it makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside to be asked.
Maybe afterwards we could grab some drinks!!
John
Scott,
Now that Nikon is onboard your lightroom tour can you conferm this rumor?
According to the French magazine ‘Réponses Photo’ (issue 183 June 2007), Nikon will soon bring out a new ‘pro’ camera, suitable both for studio and for photojournalism. It will be available around the same time as the Rugby World Cup later this year (early autumn?).
The part of the story that will interest this forum is as follows: this new camera will use a 18.7MP sensor made by Sony, slightly smaller than FF (x1.1) thus allowing further use of the classic F mount. As was the case for the D200, Nikon will have exclusive use of this sensor for 12 months.
Hi Scott,
I’m an avid reader of your BLog… It’s an awsome source for information on Photoshop, Lightroom and photography. I’m so glad you’re making it to NYC to give your Lightroom seminar. I’ll be there, hopefully up front. Like John I’ll be bugging you for an autograph. If you have time after the seminar I’ll buy the second round of drinks after John. After all that coffee I’m sure you can use more then one drink..

I really enjoyed the Lightroom seminar in Atlanta. The class was the best I’ve attended.
One question: what did you use to rotate your camera from portrat to landscape so quickly? I have a D2x and assume I could use the same thing on my tripod.
Thanks
Jim
Scott,
A late post–what was the name of the song and the artists that you used during the shoot? It was a wedding song by country duet, I believe.
By the way, excellent presentation.
