Hi everybody—here’s the latest:
- I’m working on my 2nd annual “Scott’s Gonzo Holiday Gadget Guide” for the magazine, and for an online version as well, and I’ve gotten a lot of great gear and gadget ideas from readers in the past, so if you know of a really cool product, accessory, plug-in, etc. that I should know about, just post a comment here on the blog, or send me an email at skelby@photoshopuser.com
- Just a quick note: Amazon.com is now showing that my “Photoshop CS3 Book for Digital Photographers” is in stock, so now both B&N and Amazon show the book ready to ship. I’m also starting to get emails from readers who have received the book already, so I’m glad to see it’s getting in the pipeline.
- If you’re looking for a really cool shooting opportunity, Moose Peterson’s Digital Landscape Workshop Series (DLWS) has a workshop coming up on the Great Lakes and Michigan Shoreline on Sept. 16-19, 2007. The DLWS crew (which includes instructors Laurie Excell and Joe McNally) have scoped out some incredible shooting locations that may provide some of their best shoots of the year. I think this is one of the workshops that people are going to be talking about for a while, so if you’re looking for something new and fresh, snag one of the few available spots over at DigitalLandscape.org
- If you’re signed up for Photoshop World, make absolutely certain you enter the Photoshop Guru Awards competition–sponsored by our friends at CDW (which is only open to people who attend Photoshop World). If you win the Guru Award in any of the categories, you win a 500GB “The Book” hard drive from Western Digital, and if you win “Best of Show” you win a Nikon D80 Kit (with a 28-135mm zoom lens). If you win the “Vincent Versace Award for Excellence in Digital Photography” you win an Epson 3800 Stylus Pro printer (for printing up to 17″x22″ prints), and OnOne’s Software’s Photoshop Plug-in Suite, and a signed original print from Mr. Versace himself. For details, visit PhotoshopWorld.com
- On this week’s episode of Photoshop User TV, my buddy Matt Kloskowski has a great tutorial on how to create an action that creates multiple Black & White conversions of any color photo, so you can just sit back and pick the version that looks best to you. It’s very cool, and you can watch it right here online by clicking here.
Well, that’s it for today. Have a great day and we’ll see you all tomorrow!

Hey Scott,
Regarding your new CS3 book, I bought mine through the NAPP bookstore on May 25. I just spoke to one of the member service reps who said that they have not received the book.
Do you per chance have any info on when NAPP members who bought the book from the NAPP store will receive shipment.
Thanks for your time.
Regards,
-Ade
Scott, Here is a great product for storing media card images while on the road without a computer, Nexto CF Ultra ND-2525. It downloads from the card blazing fast. I used it daily for 3 months in SE Asia and Africa. It only required one battery recharging. It has a firewire port for downloading to your computer. See it at http://www.eastgear.com.
Did you like the “Professional Cell phone Photographer” cartoon that I sent to your email address?
Thanks, Larry
Also with the “Vinny” award you win NiK software’s Pro software suite. That’s SharpenerPro, ColorEfexPro and Define.
Ordered the CS3 book from NAPP and I got a message saying it was backordered. So I keep hoping that i will get a email saying it has shipped.
Looking forward to reviewing it on my blog.
But onto the topic at hand. Cool gadgets.
One of my favorites, is the Bogen / Manfrotto Justin Spring Clamp with Flash Shoe. I love these. I carry two or three with me along with a bunch of the Nikon Sb800 flashes. With these, you can set up a portable studio shot practically anywhere.
I am sure you have used and mentioned these in the past, but this is just a reminder about these great clamps.
Alan
Scott,
Your new CS3 for Digital Photographers book arrived yesterday (Amazon UK) and it’s AWESOME (as expected). Just love the ‘Hollywood’ Portrait technique and the Hollywood Highlights technique too. Great stuff. Man, you’ve really put some work into this new edition … so much new stuff
)
Right…now time to bury my head in it’s contents.
best wishes,
Glyn
Scott – I belive both of these items are recommended in your Digital Photography book, but I thought I would nominate them for your Gonzo Gadget Guide.
The Expo Disc from ExpoImaging is one of the best ways I’ve found & used to get a proper white balance “in camera” which saves a ton of time later.
Also, a great gift for anybody would be one of the ball heads from Really Right Stuff. My favorite is the BH-55.
Thanks for the list!
Mike
How about Jessica Claire’s Shootsac?

I’m gonna add something that I am not sure if you have used.
I was introduced to Davids work on the Lexar site and I bought one of the snoots.
David Honl Universal Speed Snoot, 8″ Regular
I used this recently, and I found it to be a lot of fun.
It takes up no space in a camera bar and can add some great lighting effects.

Scott —
I pre-ordered CS3 book on Amazon (US) about a month ago and it says it will be shipping mid-September through mid-October. Do you know the status of your supply to their store?
Nominations for gadgets
http://www.harbordigitaldesign.com/ for his Ultimate Light Box system
and
I second the nomination for David Honl

Both of these are flashadd ons – for directin light.
Honl also has camera/lens wraps which I love – as I have dropped stuff.
How about this bag as a cheaper alternative to the Shootsac for those of us that can’t afford it?
