Thursday News Quickies

By Scott on Thursday, September 27th, 2007 at 9:22 am | updates.

Here’s some quick bits:

  • There’s an interesting article over the NetworkWorld called “A defense against Photoshop Funny Business” which introduces a new French company that has created software that lets you know if your original photo has been manipulated (it even detects one pixel of change from your original photo). Worth the quick read (here’s the link).
  • I’ve been getting a lot of emails asking which type of bulbs to order when ordering the Westcott Spiderlite kit I use on my Lightroom Live Tour (called “The Scott Kelby Studio Kit” at B&H Photo). On the tour I use (and recommend) Westcott’s daylight balanced fluorescent blubs, so you get the wonderful, soft continuous light. (The kit doesn’t come with bulbs; so when you order it, make sure you order those fluorescent bulbs, too!).
  • Peter Krogh, author of the popular “DAM book” (Digital Asset Management), has come up with a plug-in for the Adobe Bridge (including the CS3 Bridge) that you’ll want to know about called RapidFixer, which adds some of Camera Raw’s controls to the Bridge itself, so you can make quick-fixes to photos right within the Bridge without actually having to open Camera Raw. I gotta tell ya–it’s pretty slick. Watch his online demo videos (or buy it for $49.95) at this link.
  • Episode 2 of Corey and RC’s new Layers TV went live today; watch it online right here.

That’s it for today folks; don’t forget to scroll down to the next post for more of today’s news. :)

    Hi Scott,

I’ve been working in RAW for about 3 years and love it. For the past year or so I’ve been working also in LAB colour in almost all of my images. Dan Margulis’ book Photoshop LAB was a great influence as much as you, Matt and Dave are. I love all your books.

One thing about working in RAW, I think it would be great for the Photoshop engineers to create in Space of the Workflow Options a LAB mode. This feature would be great to have in the CS4 version.

    thanks

    Hi André:
Thanks for your kind words, and I agree: Lab in Raw would be AWESOME!

    Hi Scott,

Congratulations on a great job at NAAP. I asked some help to the Help Desk and I got back an immediate response with solutions.

The answer mentioned several episodes of PhotoshopTv with the timing where the subjectes were covered.

    I have a suggestion:

Will be great to have a matrix by subjects that points to which episode and where in that episode each topic is covered.

    Thanks and regards,

    Hernan

When I bought the Spiderlites, I decided to shop around for the bulbs. I found some with the same specs (5500K, 27 watts) as the Westcott lights at http://www.handhelditems.com/5500k-color-corrected-light-fluorescent-lamp-photo-bulb-p-5711.html for $6.99 each. I have had good results with them and they are a fraction of the price of the Westcott bulbs.

Tardy congratulations on PhotoshopTV’s centennial show! Great job!

I’d like to have one tip from you though. How did you achieve the obvious weight loss since episode 1? You look great and are to be congratulated on that as well.

You haven’t just been Photoshopped have you???
