I’m in your fan club, Scott, so I’ll have to order this one even if I think I might not need it.

I just bought CS3 Book for Digital Photographers. I intend to read it carefully. (I also have many of your other books; I am a huge fan.)

So, here is my question. Can I find everything in this book inside the CS3 Book for Digital Photographers — just not presented in a 7 point “system”?

Or is there entirely new content in this book?

p.s. I am kind-of wishing I had known of this book because I may have waited for it since I am new to CS3 and find it pretty overwhelming.

    Hi Scott,

Great job on the Seven Points System! I’ve learned a lot from you other books. Before I order, can I assume that these same seven points apply to CS2? I’m pretty new to Photoshop so this may sound like a dumb question.

    Thanks

I’m a sucker for Scott Kelby books and so I’ve just pre-ordered it. Can someone tell me why for goodness sake…..I hate the mans sense of humour - I do, I really really hate it. :-)

Scott, Just finished both the Lightroom and CS3 for photographer books and have to say they changed the way I work for the better and cant wait for the 7 points to add to my process/skill set.

Are you going to tour with a 7 point seminar?

Frank Weichmann on October 9th, 2007 at 9:56 am
  11. #11

And having just read the previous post this reminds me of something I wanted to add last time. Seminars. Have you ever thought of doing a few of these (in person) over here in Europe? Stuttgart in Germany would be a good place to start as it’s my home town. :-) No, but seriously in case it gets suggested that my humour is as bad as yours - I’m sure you sell an awful lot of your books in Europe for which we pay over the odds i.e. a high premium. It would go down really well and be very much appreciated if you could ever see your way to considering this. One week lecturing followed by a week taking photographs of our beautiful Black Forest. Now there’s a thought eh?

Is it possible to apply that seven-point system with Ligtroom instead of CS ?

Scott, accident or not, there is sound backup to your choice of seven items.
“There is a clear and definite limit to the accuracy with
which we can identify absolutely the magnitude of a unidimensional stimulus variable. I would propose
to call this limit the span of absolute judgment, and I maintain that for unidimensional judgments this
span is usually somewhere in the neighborhood of seven.>from “The Magical Number Seven, Plus or Minus Two: Some Limits on our Capacity for
    Processing Information[1]
    George A. Miller (1956)
    Harvard University
First published in Psychological Review, 63, 81-97.”

“Also there is a recognized number of times one should repeat an action for it to become a habit. That is it takes 3 weeks to establish a good habit, but only 3 days to lose it. Every time you focus on one specific musical goal for 21 straight days, you will establish a new keyboard success habit.

So I am ordering your book.

Looks very interesting. Is it only for CS3 or can a CS2 user still gain from it?

Someone asked if there are two versions of this book. The one Scott is holding is what the printed book looks like. The cover was redesigned before it went to print (so some promotional images showed an earlier design).

    Hi Scott,

The book sounds fantastic, so I’ll definately be ordering a copy.
I’ve checked with Amazon.co.uk and they don’t have it listed so I’ll order it through NAPP which makes sense I guess as members get discount.

As always, I’ve no doubt how you squeeze so much into your day but whatever the secret, keep it going cos you really do produce top quality stuff.

All the best to you and yours,

Anyway, needless to say the order has gone in.

    Dear Scott,

It’s an interesting idea for sure! I suspect it might be a job for me soon, to translate this book as well. It would be cool anyway! I think it chould have a good market here in Sweden, as your Photoshop for digital photographers book’s have - and the Digital Photography book. They should be nice compliments to each other.

Oh, and a side note from the translator in me: make it even easier for your translators, will ya. I have spent all day - and I dont mean a 8 hour day, but a 15 hour day, to do the screen captures of the two first chapters in PS CS3 for Digital photographers…. I’ve been hunting images to do screen grabs from like mad - they are *not* in chapter order. Had to rustle through all folders to find the right images (and that darn red chapel is hard to find - took me a while! So in the next book you do better, OK? :D :D

Excellent stuff Scott, your books are always great value for money (though I did pass on the iPhone book) and very well put together so that once read they become great go-to references. I’m sure this will be the same and I look forward to reading it once it arrives, has been pre-ordered for weeks now!

    Cheers

Hey Scott, as always this looks like a great book, and knowing the quality of material you put out (quality *AND* quantity!), I’ll definitely be getting this one!

Becoming a NAPP member has basically taught me 95% of the Photoshop skills I now have, and your books have certainly been a big chunk of that.

    Keep up the awesome work!

Seven (7), in Biblical terms stands for perfection. Now, do you mean to say this book leads me to perfect my photography. If so, I am coming along. Then I will know it will be an achievement, realization, fulfiiment, completeness, excellence, faultlessness, precision, superiority. What more will I want then?

Honestly, this concept of learning Photoshop REALLY seems revolutionary (which is a commonly misused word) and I was really convinced after checking out this video. Do you have any idea of when (or if) the book comes to Sweden? I’m not really sure I want to wait until it gets translated and all… better pre-order it right away maybe?

WOW!! I cannot put down this book of Kelby’s…”Digital Photography.” And NOW THIS??? I have to have this book, I KNOW I will finally master Photoshop the way it was meant to be mastered. Digital Photography will hvae to wait a little, I’ m too excited about Scott’s approach. He is funny and I LOVE how he mentions his family and loved ones in the beginning of his books! Haven’t got the book on the 7 points, and I can already tell you, I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!! Scott, I bet your wife does read those sections and treasures them as will your children one day!

    Hi, Scott.

Have seen all 103? shows on photoshoptv.com and love you guys! Got a question about your new book about your “7-Point System.” I have CS2 and am not ready yet to upgrade to CS3. Will your concepts in the new book work in CS2 OK?

Thanks in advance for any feedback!

Hi Scott, I just received this book from Amazon today and am impressed. One really basic question, are the raw pictures provided? There is not CD inside my copy of the book and I cannot find any mention of a download site. While it is possible to follow along with examples while reading the book it would be great (to say the least) to follow along while using CS3.

    Thanks!

    Hi Scott,
I am a loyal fan and am excited about the ideas presented in the book. However, I was a little surprised that you indicated that images from the camera were “pretty bad”. I guess as an old film photographer, I subscribe to the rule that the better the initial image, the better the final image. I use photoshop extensively to either just enhance a good picture or to even change it dramatically. But, I truly believe that in order to have a superior final image, the initial image out of the camera needs to be shot with care and thought.

I look forward to applying the principles in the book, as I believe they will be incredibly beneficial and enhance the hard work that I have already put into ensuring that the image out of the camera is of the best quality.

    Thanks!

Question: I just printed (Adorama) a 20×30″ print of my daughter. I used your resizing recommendations from CS3 for photographers. Where in the 7-points should I resize? After the sharpening? Before?

    Answers to previous questions:
Q: Can I use this for CS2? or previous versions?
A: Not easily. The System is using functionality from CS3 that is not available directly in previous PS versions.

Q: Can I do this all in Lightroom?
A: No. Some corrections require PS CS3. Adobe themselves say that the two are meant to complement each other, not replace. Also, some users of LR have said that this book uses Adobe Camera RAW twice on some steps which requires a workaround in LR. That work around is achievable, but not straight forward. You’ll have to look into this as I don’t know it (no lightroom).

    Happy shooting.

    Hi,
CAN SOMEONE PLEASE POST THE URL HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE PICTURES IN THE BOOK? I can’t find it anywhere. Not in the book itself, nor on Scott Kelby’s sites, nor on peachpit.com nor even Google. I’d like to get started asap… Thanks.

I really want to buy your book, man, but even on my brand new 8-core Mac Pro, Photoshop CS3 demonstrates tremendous brush lag with all drawing tools whether using the mouse or the tablet! I actually had to go back to CS2, which is faster for drawing in PPC emulation than CS3 is running natively on my Intel Mac.

    Bummer!!

Even bigger bummer? Lots of other people have this problem and Adobe won’t say a word about it. I hope that NAPP and other big Photoshop-lovers groups will get this very real issue out into the open so it can be fixed!
