A Note From The Book Publisher of my “Seven Point System”

Hi Friends of Scott,

This is Scott’s publisher, and I just heard that some of you who pre-ordered the book at Amazon may have received an automated email message from Amazon stating that The Scott Kelby 7-Point System for Adobe Photoshop CS3 Book has been delayed. The book has already released from our warehouse and is already selling, but because Amazon hadn’t fully received the inventory before the trigger to put in place an automated email date change message went out, you may have received that automated email saying the book wasn’t yet available. Please ignore Amazon’s email, as the book is available from us, and will be shipping from Amazon within the week.

Thanks to all of you for your patience. And I can tell you now, after having read the book myself, it’s SO worth the wait of a few days from Amazon. Enjoy.

- Nancy

    Nancy -

I’m not sure ignoring Amazon’s message is a good idea though. Because the book is delayed, the message asks to confirm that you still want it whenever it becomes available. They do not charge the customer until the book is shipped. If you just ignore the message, the order will eventually get canceled.

    Nancy,
Cancel or don’t cancel? I don’t want to wait another month for the book nor do I want 3 copies. Is Peachpit owned by Apple or do they just follow their business model? :-))

Bummer…I cancelled my order this morning before reading the update.

After talking to customer service yesterday, it seemed as if there was no chance of getting the book before December.

How long will it be before this title is added to Safari Books Online?

I was just on the Amazon website and it states December 3rd for shipping. I’m not sure what is going on. I’ve confirmed the order with them anyway. It is sort of frustrating but sounds like a good book so I’ll just wait, even though I could go down to Borders and get it sooner, which is probably what I will do next. Sounds like you took the pre-ordered books and sold them at one Scott’s seminars - bummer for the rest of us.

I ordered 2 copies through the NAPP Store. Do you know if these will becoming off back order soon? I’d rather purchase there than through a third party.

    Scott,

What’s up with your prices? In case you hadn’t heard, the Canadian dollar is worth 3% more than the US greenback.

I just checked Amazon.com and Amazon.ca for the ‘Seven Point System’.

    $39.05 Cnd
    $32.99 US

(Same thing with NAPP membership, by the way. $99 American or $129 Cnd. Puh-lease.)

Bypass Amazon, buy the book directly from Peachpit and get it shipped for free. If you sign-up as a Peachpit member (membership is free) they’ll take 20% off the price; so that combined with free shipping works out to be the same as the price from Amazon with shipping, maybe even less. Also, when I signed up, the sent me a 35% off coupon which you can use on any purchase (including Scotts book), so if you place a single order of 10 books from Peachpit, you can apply the 35% discount to all of them!

After reading the blog post early this morning I felt better until I received a fresh email from Amazon asking me to approve the fact that my order will be delayed until December. I have had this book ordered since the first day it showed up on Amazon. How can Peachpit and Amazon be so out of sync? Can I get the book somehwere else sooner than 6 weeks from now??

I too canceled… And I’m not sorry for it. Amazon seems to do this CHRONICALLY… first to offer preOrders, and Last to fulfill them. So, I just went to the NAPP site and bought it there… couple of dollars more, but far less headache.

Which may be my modus operandi going forward up to & until Amazon changes the way it manages procurement, inventory, & order fulfillment.

Me too! I don’t know if I should update my order/delivery date with Amazon which states around Dec 3 to 5! I still have until next week to approve this request from amazon… =(

I too cancelled my order with Amazon this morning and ordered it from Barnes and Noble instead. It was a little bit more expensive, but I ordered it this morning at 7 and it has already shipped. Plus you get free 3 day shipping with it.

So what is the correct solution for getting this book as fast as possible I already approved the shipping date change and now I don’t know if that was such a good idea.

Cancelled Amazon order and ordered from Peachpress. More expensive but 1.5 months earlier arrival.

Just spoke with an Amazon Customer Service Representative she said to whom it may effect that if you do not accept the estimate change (keyword estimate) than basically you are saying you no longer want the item and it will be canceled. She also advised me that again (keyword estimate) if the product has not reached amazon.com warehouses by the date it specifies it gives an ESTIMATE upon when they will receive the product. So she said it may as well be the fact that amazon.com warehouses received the order shortly after the automated message was sent out and the package could still be packaged and shipped according the date before the automated message was sent out, but I’d definitely revise the blog and remove or change the wording where it says ignore the email. Hope I could help a few people out. Can’t wait for this book I preordered it the first day it was available.

I ordered directly through Peachpit, with a nice discount and received the book on Monday (10/22/07).

I had a bad experience with Amazon about 6 or 7 years ago, and I haven’t shopped at the site since then.

Just started to review the material today. Can’t wait to work through the lessons and try some of my own photos using the 7 steps.

I just canceled my order from amazon and ordered from barnes & noble… got a $5 dollar off coupon so it’s a couple of dollars more expensive compared to amazon.com price… :)

I had pre-ordered from B&N, and they’re now telling me that I won’t get the book until November 18th, and I’d really rather not wait for it. I may be ordering directly from Peachpit…

Scott - I, too, have ordered it through the NAPP store instead of Amazon. Any word on how soon it will be shipping from there? Thanks.

I had pre-ordered from Amazon and got the same email as everyone else. I replied to the email, stating that I accepted the delay. I just got an email from Amazon saying that my order has shipped!! Since I’m a prime member I get free 2 day shipping. So, I’m very excited, hoping to get my book very soon. Oh, and by the way, since I had pre-ordered the book, I got a $1.50 discount on the book. Total is $28.49, shipping included.

Okay…with egg on my face I will update my comment about Peachpit being out of sync with Amazon. One day after I received the email saying I would not get my book until December, I get an email from Amazon saying that the book has shipped and I will get it today!! SOOOO it’s only Amazon that’s out of sync;) I can’t wait to get and read the book as I know it will be at least as good as the other 10 or so fo your books that I have read.

Amazon.ca pre-order shipped today even though I received the delay email yesterday.

I pre-ordered through B&N. Checked stock day before yesterday and saw that they were expecting to ship Nov 18th. But they let me order a copy then for shipment yesterday.??? Didn’t cancel my pre-order since I want to give another copy as a gift. This morning I checked the pre-order and it still said Nov 18th shipping. This evening I got an email that it had shipped today. Weird… So if you pre-ordered through BN it’ll probably ship in the next couple days no matter what the order status screen says.

Scott’s publisher is correct and this is more about an automated system going bad than a poor reflection on Amazon.com or Peachpit’s shipping department. I too had preordered on Amazon and then got the “it’s running late” e-mail notice. I let Amazon know that I’d wait it out and now two days later my book has shipped and should be in my hot little hands in a couple of days. Thanks to both Nancy and Scott for keeping us up to date and perhaps the next time something like this happens folks will be patient for a few days rather than going off and overreacting.

I have a copy of the 7-Point system from Amazon. Where does one get the photos that are used in the lessons?
