I’m Digging The Free Shipping From B&H Photo For NAPP members

This week, I placed two different orders with B&H Photo, and since NAPP members get free shipping, I saved $51.70 on UPS shipping on my first order (some C-stands), and then another $26.80 on my second order for empty sandbags (for a total shipping savings of nearly $80.00). Considering that a full year NAPP membership is only $99, that ain’t too shabby.

I know a lot of NAPP members take advantage of this discount, but then I always run into members at my seminars that have no idea this discount is in place, so since I was on my “I saved $80 bucks” high, I thought’d I pass it along.

Also, another discount that might come in handy during the holidays is one NAPP members get from Apple, on everything from new Macs to Monitors, and loads of other cool Apple gear. They’ve set up a special NAPP members version of the online Apple Store and we get emails from members who have saved more than their annual membership fee in just one order.

To get these discounts, just go to the NAPP member website, and click on the Discounts link. If you’re not a NAPP member yet, click here for the full scoop.

Can anybody tell me if the above mentioned free shipping applies to non-US residents?

It’s also worth noting that B&H now also offers discounted shiping if you need it sooner. I recently needed something next day and paid something like $5.35 instead of $18 or $20. And now NAPP members can do all this through the B&H web site - just go to the Discounts area of the NAPP site and log in from there!

Daniel: free shipping only applies to the US. Not only do we get to pay for shipping, but get to expect a customs charge on delivery.

Not much can be done about that but it’s still hundreds of dollars cheaper considering the current exchange rate here in Canada.

Now if only NAPP would stop gouging Canadians by charging them 39% more for a membership.

I’m digging it as well. I just ordered a couple of external drives for backups.

So the free shipping doesn’t apply to Canada, why we are not that far away? Also, like someone said above Canadians shouldn’t have to pay more for a NAPP membership. The Canadian dollar is par or worth more then the US dollar, so why the difference.

I think you’ll find the difference for the NAPP membership is eaten up by the difference the USPS charges to ship beyond the US. I’m Canadian and getting pretty weary of the whole thing but it helps to remember that dollar parity is only recent and will take some time to catch up - assuming it stays like this. Things like shipping won’t change unless the USPS makes changes - and that’s no more likely than Canada Post doing the same. I wouldn’t hold my breath.

In the mean time it’s nice to take advantage of the dollar parity. Unfortunate that Canadian distributors are still gouging retailers and that pricing gets passed on to us. Let’s just be grateful, Canucks, that we aren’t paying european pricing on things.

As Canadians, if you’ve ever ordered anything from the US you know that it just costs more to ship from the US to Canada. Doesn’t make sense geographically I know, but that’s the unfortunate reality of US shipping to Canada (I lived with it all my life in Canada and now that I live in the US I see that there just aren’t any cheaper alternatives when you’re shipping from “here to there”)

    Hey Scott…..
    Speaking of free shipping
How about some free shipping when we order your books from the NAPP store?
Tour profit margin must be better than your slice from Barnes & Noble or Amazon

Why not just get Scott’s books from B&H with free shipping?
