Friday News Wrap-up

Here’s what’s up to take us into the weekend:

  • Last Month, NAPP (The National Assn. of Photoshop Professionals) launched a new weekly news show (hosted by NAPP’s own Executive Director Larry Becker), with the latest scoop on new discounts, special deals for members, and much more (it’s pictured above). It’s already become hugely popular with members, and if you’re a NAPP member you can watch it right online on the NAPP member’s home page.
  • Terry White has just released his 2nd annual Holiday Gadget Guide, and it’s just packed with the latest gadgets, electronics, video gear, and all kinds of cool stuff for the gadget freak in you. It’s very well thought out, and produced from top to bottom. This is a must-download (it’s a PDF). Here’s the link.
  • I just checked and right now Barnes & Noble.com has my new Photoshop 7-point System in-stock and it’s shipping now! Also, good news; a reader named George posted a comment yesterday regarding an email he got from Amazon.com telling him his pre-ordered 7-point-system had shipped! Here’s his post from yesterday.
    • “I had pre-ordered from Amazon and got the same email as everyone else. I replied to the email, stating that I accepted the delay. I just got an email from Amazon saying that my order has shipped!! Since I’m a prime member I get free 2 day shipping. So, I’m very excited, hoping to get my book very soon. Oh, and by the way, since I had pre-ordered the book, I got a $1.50 discount on the book. Total is $28.49, shipping included.”
  • I have incredible news: Last week I was totally humbled by the genorosity of a gentlemen who bought one of my fine art prints (from Digital Art & Photo.com), and then donated $1,000 to the “Spings of Hope, Kenya” organization (where 100% of my proceeds from the sale are donated to help with in building a small clinic and orphanage in Keyna, or homeless and orphaned children). Well, I was blown away once again yesterday when I learned that another print had sold, and an additional $1,000 was donated by the woman who bought the print. I am just humbled, elated, and literally overjoyed by the generosity of these amazing people, who join me in helping in this small but impactful way.I talked with my friends at Spring of Hope Kenya yesterday and they were as blown away as I was. My sincere thanks and gratitude to everyone helping to support this group.
  • There’s a detailed review (complete with before and after photos), from one of the first people to receive my Photoshop 7-Point-System book, over at Shrew’s Daily Shutters blog. Here’s the link.
  • I did a quick radio interview with my Publisher, Nancy Ruenzel over at Peachpit Press, and we discuss my new 7-point-system, and some other book projects I haven’t officially announced yet (well, I guess the cat will be out of the bag during this interview), and if you’ve got a couple of minutes, click right here to hear it online at Peachpit.com.

  • One last thing: Moose Peterson was a guest on Photoshop User TV this week, and posted a cool photo (taken with the Nikon D3) of the set, between takes. Here’s the link.

That’s all for this week. Have a great Friday and a wonderful weekend! :)

I have seen all kinds of impressive pictures on your site and I really enjoy your photography, but I must say that the image accompanying this story is among your most impressive!

Hi! Okay, I ran as fast as I could to get your newest book, but I have a question. I currently have Photoshop CS2 because I use Windows 2000 Pro (CS3 requires XP or Vista). I was wondering if the 7-Point System would still pretty much apply to CS2.

I should mention too that I eventually intend to ditch Windows (no offense, Bill) and get a Mac. And then get CS3. And then find 6 or 7 extra hours a day to play with it. (Stupid sleep.)

Hello - I know this is off-topic but is there a cookie cutter way to get the same basic design and flow of your blog? I know you updated a few months ago and I really like the look and feel. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Oh - congrats on the photo sales for your Kenya effort! That was REALLY cool and neat to read! Here’s to more sales and even more donations!

Hey Scott … fatastic news re the print sales. Just goes to show there’s alot of good hearts out there :o)

Can’t wait to get my hands on the new book after reading all these messages from people who’ve now received it. Shrew’s examples on his blog show real potential after only a short time and not going through the book as you advise Trouble is while Im waiting, more hair is falling out in anticipation.

Right, I’m now off to listen to the Peachpit interview to discover what else you have on the horizon :o)

All the best to you and yours,
    Glyn

A volume 2 to the Digital Photography book. Wow, I can’t wait. It might only be October but lets hope it’s out in time for Christmas.

Hey, that’s me Scott is talking about on today’s post. Thank you Scott for putting me up on your site. I hope not many people followed the recommendations of cancelling their Amazon pre-orders. Yes, they did mislead with their comments, but they came thru at the end. At you couldn’t beat their pre-order price anywhere!

    Cheers,
    George

This comment pertains to NAPP traveling photoshop seminars. I live in Alaska, which is a part of the USA. NAPP never shows up in Anchorage, 250 miles north of my home in Homer. By the way TAZ Tally lives 14 miles north of Homer but I have not met him. The Rocky Mountain Sch of Photo had a 2 day digital camera seminar, Hilton Hotel, in Anchorage. I estimated that there were from 150-175 people attended both days. All were enthusiastic about the sessions. If I recall correctly, the sch charged $99 for each day, possibly for both days. PLEASE COME TO AK.. Several months ago, I sent an e-mail to NAPP proposing same thing, but never heard from anyone. William T. Barrett NAPP member

Oh wow…*waves at the world* that’s me up there. Thanks for the hearty shout out, Scott. I am amazed that I am transforming photos already with your system. You should see the stuff I was working on over breakfast, since I made it through Lesson 2. ;)

    Thanks again,
    Shrew

Hi Scott…Received your 7 Point System book yesterday from Barnes & Noble, promptly did lesson #1, and I am totally blown away by the concept and the way you have the book set up. Without a doubt, THIS, is the PS book that should be part of everyone’s library. You have every right to be as excited about it as you are…it’s two thumbs up and highly recommended! As an FYI…that 265mb download of the books photos to follow along with took a while even with my high-speed cable connection. A dial-up download would be a nightmare…any way to break that down into say..three or four smaller package downloads? Now…on to Lesson 2, and thanks again for the Book of the Year.

I pre-ordered the book on Amazon as soon as Scott posted the news about it here, and mine is yet to ship. Hopefully, soon.
