Wednesday News Stuff
First, thanks to everyone who came out to my Lightroom Live Tour in Tampa Yesterday (photos above by Matt Kloskowski). I met some really great people, including a number of folks who read this blog daily, and that was really a kick. It was great seeing some old friends, and making some new ones! Now, onto the news:
- If you’re a Mac user that updated to Mac OS X Leopard, you probably already have found out that Lightroom 1.2 (the latest current version) won’t print, but Terry White over at Terry’s Tech Blog has indicated that a “dot” update is coming soon from Adobe which will fix the problem. Here’s what Terry wrote: “If printing from Lightroom is critical to your workflow, then you might want to hold off a bit until the Lightroom dot release is available. Currently under Leopard switching to the Print Module in LR 1.2 is not possible!”
- Just a friendly reminder: If you haven’t profiled your monitor in a while, then consider today “Profile Your Monitor Wednesday!”
- If you like classic cars and stunning photography, take two minutes and check out this site from photographer Lonna Tucker. Her stuff just ROCKS!!! (here’s the link).
- Embarrassing Admission Alert: Yesterday morning, as we were setting up the lighting for my live shoot segments at the Lightroom Tour, it suddenly hit me; I forgot my tripod. Luckily, RC was assisting me and he loaned me his. The reason I’m mentioning this is; his ballhead rocked. It was a Giottos MH 1301 Ballhead Pro Series II (which B&H sells for around $135) and I was really impressed with it. It’s small, but rugged; easy to use, and had no problem supporting some heavyweight gear (it supports up to 20 lbs.). If you’re in the market for a solid ballhead at a good price, I say it’s definitely worth considering.
- If you’re in the New York area, I hope to see you next week at the Javits Center for my Photoshop CS3 Power Tour.
That’s it for today. Have a great Wednesday everybody!

Hi Scott.
Enjoy your Blog very much and please pass on my thanks to the guys for the free Photoshop User Tv programmes. Excellent!
English is my first language, mainly because I`m English, but I have problems translating American “English” at times!:).
Would you mind translating, what I assume is being used as an adjective - “ROCKS”. I am unsure as to your meaning, but here in England we use ROCK as a noun meaning - “a solid part of the earths crust” or ROCKS - “make oscillate : move to and fro”.
I was concerned to hear that the Giottos Ballhead you borrowed from RC ROCKED! This was very alarming as I would expect a Ballhead of this quality to be quite stable! Further, please send pass on my concerns to Lonna Tucker who also ROCKS - hope she gets well soon!
Nick. Confused and bemused, from England!
I was at your Lightroom Seminar yesterday. And I thought that I wrote down the web address correctly (this one) for the LR print templates in zip for a Free download that you talked about at the end of the seminar. I can’t line the link for the download –what did I miss?
Thanks
And YOU ROCK–102 lbs. gone –awesome! Just shows what focus and committment can accomplish!
Scott: Being a part of the “Kelby Team”, it’s nice to get out there and see you in action at one of your seminars. Gives me a whole new respect for what you do. You’re awesome, you make it fun, and you DO rock! (Trust me, Nick — that’s a good thing!)
See you in the salt mines, Scott!
(And I mean that in a good way, Nick!)
Hey Scott -
you’re looking almost too thin!!
In any case - your note about Lightroom not printing in Leopard is false. I read this on another site as well. Here’s the deal - in the beta versions of Leopard, the Print module did not show up. Correct. In the final release installed either as an upgrade or a clean install - Lightroom 1.2 print module comes up, and prints like a charm.
Try it out. I just did on my Macbook Pro.
Keep up the great work. Just got the 7 Step book. Nice job.
I realize this is off topic but I really want to know and am not sure how else to contact you. As an avid reader of your numerous books and a daily viewer of you blog, I really wish you’d consider writing a book on blogging. It seems to be the “killer app” of the 21 century. Individuals and businesses alike are getting involved. I’m setting up a blog (google blogger) but have never been someone who kept a daily journal. With your entertaining and informitive writing style, I’m sure a book and bloggin would be a big hit.
Thanks and keep up the good work,
Joel T.

Scott, was at your Tampa stop yesterday, and I have to say…I’ve been to a LOT of photography seminars, but that was the single best one day of training that I have EVER had…congratulations on a great, productive, informative seminar. Worth at least twice the price!
Help please. I purchased your Lightroom book for Digital Photographers and I now want to download the 1.1 update kit.
I went to peachtree as directed, registered, filled in all the blanks and have now spen at least an hour trying how to download the update.
I have Adobe reader, I don’t need to buy another, or any of their other products - which they had made that part easy - but not the update.
How can I do this???
Thanks,
LJ
When is somebody of napp comming to The Nethterlands.

From a napp member and fan.

Hi Scott! I love watching Photoshop TV and picking up all the tips you guys share, I’m also looking forward to your new book, I’m just waiting for it to show up in the shops here in the UK.
Any chance of a UK tour in the near future??? Wayne
Hi Scott,
First let me say what a fabulous time I had attending your Lightroom seminar in Tampa. It was my first time attending any of your seminars but I’m certain it won’t be the last. As a current PS Elements 5 user (don’t have the talent or the big bucks to move to CS3 yet) I understand and subscribe to the organizational concepts of Lightroom but man, all that other stuff it can do is just amazing and all without leaving the warmth and comfort of the Lightroom interface. I’m a believer and I’m going out to purchase my copy soon. Which brings me to my question … I also signed up as a first time NAPP member and I believe the lady at the table said there was a special discount (OK, a special sizable discount) available on the purchase of Lightroom for NAPP members if we did it before the end of this year. I cannot find anything on that at the NAPP site or anywhere else. Can you provide any insight?
As a fledgling photographer I enjoy your site and will become a daily reader.
Best Regards,
Dennis Dwyer
Great call on the Giottos ball head. I have been needing a good ball head but have been hesitant to part with the big $$$ for a Really Right Stuff or equal. Bought this on your recommendation and it totally rocks. Great value, great call. Love it!
I am a old person who is new to digital and Lightroom and I have some very basic questions, like how to get the photos out of lightroom when I have finished with them. I have read your book and I need even more help; would the DVD you mentioned on the web site answer my questions or is it just too complicated for a beginner?
Don’t ignore the Hampton Roads, VA area for your Lightroom tour. Richmond would be a great location.
I registered my copy of The Adobe Lightroom Book for Digital Photographers at the Peachtree site, was told that it was properly registered, and I have been trying for the last hour to download the Lightroom 1.1 Update Kit.
I keep going round in circles. I’m referred to the Peachtree site which tells me I am properly registered but I cannot find the download. I bought the book just a few days ago because I heard there was an update. Now I cannot find it.
