Scott’s 2nd Annual Gonzo Holiday Gear Guide is Now on Newsstands Nationwide!

It’s here: the long awaited, unabated, triangulated, amalgamated, 2nd annual edition of Scott’s Gonzo Holiday Gear Guide! It’s the cover story (and a 10-page feature spread) appearing in the new issue of Layers Magazine (the how-to magazine for everything Adobe).
This year’s expanded in-depth guide includes nothing but the coolest, personally hand-picked gear for the photography and Photoshop freak on your holiday list. PLUS, there’s also a Special Online Version, with all the same wholesome goodness as the printed guide (it’s carbonated, hyphenated, alienated, and slightly perforated), and you can check it out right here at Layers Magazine’s Website.
Happy Holiday Shopping Everybody!

Hi Scott,
I am no pro by any means, but I love my Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II. I used it monday night shooting a basketball game and it did me just fine. The absolute perfect lens for shooting the action under the basket. I sure wish I could afford some of the glass you use for your Bucs Games.
Thanks for all you do for us
Mike
Hi Mike:
I wish I could afford some of that glass, too! That gear was on loan from my buddy, and from Canon.
Take care,
-Scott
Scott, thanx for the info on the 50mm 1.8 — I just placed my order before B&H runs out!
Have a great weekend!
Mike
Also check out the JOBO photoGPS which attaches to the hot shoe and records lattitude and longitude each time a picture is taken. This information is then correlated with the pictures in your computer. Good for cameras without GPS connectors.
Hi Scott,
I pleasantly surprised to see the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II in your list. I have looked at this lens a few times but was put off by the low price.
One for my Christmas list
I recently purchased the Nikkor 50mm 1.8 lens and Luuuuuuuuuuuv it! The best $113.97 I have ever spent!
Scott,
Unrelated to this blog post, but your book plug is a way down.
Quick question about your 7 steps. You don’t say which sharpening actions should be used for what in Lesson 1 although you have us create 3. Can you clarify please. thanks
Phil
ps continue to love the blog but wish my napp membership did more for me in the uk.
Nice work on the gift guide Scott! Very much as interesting as last years if not better even!
Ps: Your title has a slight spelling error, where “Gonzo” has become “Gozno”
Hey Scott….RC had two Giotto tripods at the Lightroom Tour in Tampa - I was interested in the tripod and head that your camera was mounted on - he mentioned that he was going to have a video about it at Layers TV but I can’t find it….I believe the price range was in the $400 range for both the head and the tripod…can you provide a link to the tripods?
Cheers,
Laurel
Scott,
Just wondering if you will make the pdf version of the gift guide available as you did last year. I tried the other sites and it seems as the pdf version does not exist. I enjoyed the format that I could print out last year…..maybe I need to buy the issue of Layers Magazine???
Kevin
About Canon 50mm 1.8 Lens - I had one for a year and there is one very bad thing about this lens: Construction of lens is very weak, so I have repaired it 2 times and it is again broke, so it is not so cheap anymore, but I agree about picture quality, it is very good.
What I did (and I suggest it to others), I bought quality lens from Sigma (available for Canon and Nikon both) and so far I am satisfied with this lens: Sigma 30mm 1.4 (http://www.sigmaphoto.com/lenses/lenses_all_details.asp?id=3300&navigator=6)
Hey Scott, been looking forward to your gift guide, thanks! It’s Great!
I thought the Gitzo Traveler Tripod would make the list, and was hoping to get one… Has it convinced you yet?
Best Wishes
Hey Scott,
Do you ever get the feeling that just when you think you’ve got everything you need something comes along that you simply can’t live without? :o)
Thanks for the gift guide … I can now drops several hints to Mrs ‘D’ for Christmas ideas.
Take care Buddy,
Glyn
This will have to be on your list in the near future. Maybe people have heard about it, but, it’s the first for me. Way cool.

Is it just me or is it difficult finding info from on xrite website about the Eye-One Display 2 Calibrator. I’ll look it up at B&H instead.
Oh on the xrite website its called i1, not Eye-One Display 2 Calibrator
Thanks for all the great stuff Scott. This blog, Photoshop User, your books and everything else you do is a gold mine of information.
I totally agree with the choice of bags. I really don’t like the single shoulder strap, though, especially on longer assignments. Check out this post for information on an awesome backpack strap that’ll work on just about any shoulder-style camera bag.
