The 7-point-system on “Your Mac Life”

Wednesday night I was a guest on Shawn King’s excellent “Your Mac Life” radio show, and of course, we talked about my Photoshop 7-point-system (Shawn had lots of in-depth questions about it), but I think it was some of the other things Shawn asked that made it one of my most revealing interviews yet.

Shawn touched on everything from whether I do paid endorsements for products, to questions about Adobe CEO Bruce Chizen stepping down and Adobe’s future, to questions about my start in this business (and my film-shooting days), including the real reason I decided to publish a magazine 10 years ago, to how people react to my quirky sense of humor (or lack thereof), to a talk about Adobe making a version of Photoshop available online.

You can listen to the interview right on their web site by clicking right here.

  • The Photo Enthusiast » Before/After - Using Scott Kelby’s 7 Point System
[...] I have been going through Scott Kelby’s new book entitled: Scott Kelby’s 7 Point System for Adobe Photoshop. This book is a MUST have for your digital darkroom. It is very easy (and dare I say…fun) to follow. The best part is that  you can start using the techniques immedately with amazing results. Below is an example  using the 7 Point System. This is a picture of my lovely daughter, Rowan! It took me a total of 5 (and I rounded up) minutes to apply the techniques that I learned from the book to get the final results. A picture that would normally be trashed by now - is now a keeper is being printed as I write this!  I am sure the majority of people that read my blog (about 5) already know about this book..but just in case - get it! You can also check out two interviews with Scott Kelby talking about his latest book at The Digital Photography Show and on Your Mac Life Radio show. [...]

    Hi Scott,

I can understand why any one would mention your 7-point system. This is the best book I have ever seen about making photos better. I never knew my so-so images could be so breathtaking.

Thanks scott for a grand-slam book.

“one of my most revealing interviews yet.”

Wow! I’m honored! I’ve interviewed you several times and all I try to do is not ask you the same questions everyone else has asked. :)

Never mind the How-to books. Write another humor book like your hysterical “Macintosh The Naked Truth.” I read it on the plane on my way to my first Macworld and was laughing so hard my tears ruined all my eye makeup, and the people next to me asked “WHAT are you reading?!”

Or update it now with some more modern chapters, I’d buy it again in a second.

    Scott-

I’m working through your 7 point system book but I’m using Lightroom instead of ACR (I also have your LR book).

Lesson 2 just does not work opening a smart object copy by double clicking the thumbnail in the layers palate (page 22, step 8). Any advice??

    Scott,

I am working on your 7 point system. In chapter 3, after converting to Lab and you choose the b channel, is there a step missing where you convert back to RGB?

BTW, I have 5 of your books and enjoy very much your approach towards teaching.

    Keep up the GREAT work!!!

I noticed that your link is pointed to the most current episode of Your Mac Life - which means it’s now pointing to the wrong one. The correct link is http://yourmaclifeshow.com/QT/YML071114s.mov . Thanks for a great blog.

    Scott–
I’m using Lightroom instead of ACR. Same question about using Smart Object layers in PS with Lightroom… your step-by-step instructions breakdown here.
I cannot find a way to get the Smart Object layer opened back in Lightroom (for example as you suggest in Lesson 2)

    What suggestions do you have?
    Thanks
