Hi Everybody. Here’s what’s goin on:

  • My buddy Matt Kloskowski did a post last week called “Why Lightroom?” on his “Lightroom Killer Tips” blog that started a great discussion (and is creating some real buzz). Check it out right here.
  • In that same vein, on this week’s episode of Photoshop User TV, I did a special segment on Lightroom vs. The CS3 Bridge and Camera Raw, and where Lightroom fits in, inspired by comments I got from a number of attendees at my “CS3 Power Tour” in New York City two weeks ago (namely, “What is Lightroom?”). Here’s the link to watch it online (it’s the first segment in the show).
  • Terry White, of Terry’s Tech Blog fame, and co-author of “The iPhone Book,” is quoted in the current issue of Newsweek in an article on GPS units. You can read the article right here.
  • Thomas Testi, over at Blog Critics Magazine posted a very in-depth review of my Photoshop 7-Point System book today, and he does a good job of showing how this book differs from my other Photoshop books. Here’s the link.
  • Want some Tuesday photo inspiration? Go check out photographer Jill Greenberg’s “Manipulator” web site (if the name sounds familiar,Jill gained fame earlier in the year with her “crying baby” shots). Jill has a very unique style (and a signature Photoshop finishing style that is very slick). Click here to check it out her work.

That’s it for today’s new folks. Make sure you scroll down to the next post which answers some questions about the Elinchrom Octabank I keep talking about.

Are there tutorials out there on the web on how to get that supersaturated look without making a mess of the photoshop? I have always loved that style and would love to know how people go about achieving it.

    Scott,

I had my birthday yesterday and my girlfriend was good enough to get me the Hoodman Pro Loupe. I can’t wait to use it! It even came with some cleaning wipes and a case. Thanks for the recommendation/endorsement!

    Scott,
I am anxiously awaiting a new D300 and now that I will have the capability to use a GPS device I will be purchasing that as well. Nikon sells a MC-35 GPS adaptor, yet your Gonzo guide does not mention this requirement. Can you help me understand the required set up please? Thanks

    Hey Scott & Friends,

Jill Greenburg is amazing. If your wondering how she achieves those shots… Head on over to a post The Strobist did on her that has two videos from two different shoots. One with a bear and one with an Artist…
    Good stuff.

    Hi Scott,

Did you realize, that someone already registered “bescottsfriend.com”?

I went there just for fun. I wonder how many visits he gets from one mentioning in PSUTV.

    Hi Scott,

A great episode of PSUserTV there … thanks for that :o)

Well your Gonzo Gift Guide has certainly given me many ideas of presents from Mrs Dewis :o) … think I might have to leave more than a few mince pies out though if Father Christmas is gonna leave me a Nikon D3 :o)

    Thanks for your continued inspiration,
    Glyn

My copy of the Seven-Point System book should arrive today or tommorrow. I am really looking forward to reading it.
Currently I am reading your Lightroom book and I really like it.

    Another great episode!
You almost have me won over with lightroom, I’m just beginning to take on photography as a part time hobby. I’m fully trained in most Adobe products and have been using camera raw in the past to do most my editing. The print panel that lightroom has implemented is teasing me… I can see lightroom in my near future!

    Thanks for the walk-through!

I love your work and I’m going through your 7 point system. I use Lightroom and CS2 and was wondering if there was a workaround for lesson 5 step eight when you take a smart object back into raw. Is there a way to get it back to Lightroom if that is where I’m using lightroom to change the exposure.

Say Hi to your friend Matt for me. He is great too.

    Thanks,

    John
