Volume 2 of my Digital Photography Book

This week I’m just wrapping up the writing and shooting for the soon to be released, “The Digital Photography Book, Vol 2,” which pretty much picks up where Vol. 1 left off. I built the book on feedback from readers of the first book, who asked things like, “Can you do the same thing for studio lighting?” and “Off camera flash” and can give you give us more Wedding photography tips, more landscape tips, more travel photography tips, and just more of everything. So, I did just that.
The new book uses the exact same layout and look of Volume 1, and it goes to press in the first week of December, (although Amazon.com shows it in their warehouses around Jan.5th, and Barnes & Nobles shows it available on December 28th, 2007), so, it will either be:
- (a) In stock and shipping on that day
- (b) It will be available earlier, or
- (c) later
So, I’m going to give you the links here to pre-order the book from Amazon.com or Barnes & Noble.com (Amazon. com is listing it for $16.49. Cheap!), but here’s the thing: once I send it to my publisher (Peachpit Press), and they send it off to be printed and shipped, it’s out of my hands, so if you do preorder it, and Amazon sends you an automated email message that says it won’t be available until July of 2010, please don’t come here and post hateful comments on my blog that I’m intentionally misleading you, or say bad things about my mother, or any of the other angry things people post here when they get that email, of which I have absolutely no involvement or control whatsoever.
Thanks everybody, and I hope you preorder the book today, and join me in this “when does it really ship?” adventure.

The other day my wife was helping me rearrange my home office. As we were putting books back on the bookshelves, she wanted to know if I wanted to put all the Photoshop books together on the “SCOTT KELBY” bookcase. I told her to leave some room just in case :). Maybe I should have left more room ?
Looking forward to the new book and a new bookcase
Have a great Holiday
Another book to surely look forward to!
Now if we just had a help line to Scott Kelby, we would all be happy!
I believe you should start a Lightroom Help/support group where we could ask questions anytime we need help!
Have a great Holiday Scott!
Hi Scott,
Like Peter above, I have quite the Kelby Library at my house.
I still can’t write enough positive comments about your 7-point book. It is an excellent teaching tool.
You signed my copy of the first Digital Photography book for me in Vegas. Your down-to-earth attitude towards your students is greatly appreciated. I really appreciate youre teaching without boring. That is my teaching style as well. I figure if a student can be relaxed or even entertained a bit, the learning environment is more relaxed. Hence, more learning takes place.
Kudos to you Scott for your inspiration and aid to all of us who have a need to learn about digital photograpy, photoshop, and lightroom. I will place my advance order within the hour.
Thanks again,
Mike
Scott
Just how fast do you type!!!
Looking foward as really enjoyed the 1st book.
Here’s looking forward to it. Amazon.co.uk showed a release date of early Jan when I pre-ordered the other week following your peachpit hint of the books release. Here’s hoping we get it for the Christmas holidays.
Looks like I’ll need a bit more shelf space too for my “Kelby” books plus those from Matt K and Dave C.
This an excellent new !. I discover your first book last July when I went to NY in holidays and is the perfect book to improve in photography !. Several times I’ve read the whole book and I like because is easy to read and all the advices are interesting.
Now I check every day your blog !
I’m from Barcelona, Spain, and I live in Barcelona, and days ago I discover your first volume translated to spanish, good news for all spanish people !
In January I wll buy your book in Amazon !
All the best,
Victor
Scott, I haven’t received the new Digital Photography book yet! (I just wanted to beat all the other e-mails.)
Looking forward to your book Scott. The 1st volume was excellent in all aspects! Keep it up
Sweet!

Awesome I look forward to reading this one. Keep up the good work!
Scott,
Just a quick question… when do you sleep?
Terry,
Ahhh 1 week to late for Christmas gifts…..Valentines Day it is!
What - you can’t control things beyond your control? I thought that Photoshop could do everything!!!!!! I’ll be preordering. Look for me at the next conference with a big stack of books for you to sign.
Actually I just preordered it from amazon and they have additional 5% off on checkout. So the total at the end was $15.67.
Also I hope it ships sooner rather than later
Can’t wait! I’m a big fan of your books and teaching style.
This is exciting. The first Digital Photography book was the best photography book I have ever read. (Just don’t tell John Hedgecoe - really it would kill the guy).
I can’t wait to get this new second edition. I read your first book through several times and have so many flags in it to highlight the great points that it looks silly. I’ve recommended it to all my friends and bought it for several as gifts. I hope in the future to be able to attend one of your seminars (I’m in CT). I really wanted to come down to the Javitz’s Center for your CS3 Power Tour but was out of town on business. I’ll be there the next time for sure!
I keep volume 1 in my camera bag…..I guess I will need a bigger camera bag!!
I think that I was one of the people who may have been frustrated by the delay in the Amazon delivery of your 7-Point System book. First let me apologized because I thought perhaps you and your publisher might have had more control over where first batches of books got delivered (seminars vs. retailers who had pre-orders), from what you write in your blog post, I realize now that that is not the case. I have certainly learned to be more patient through the process. Second, I would just like to tell you how much I really enjoy the 7-Point book. I had been focusing a lot of time on Lightroom learning this new program; and noticed that I was not using Photoshop as much. The complete digital workflow that you show in the 7-Point book gave me more guidance in how to integrate a RAW converter (such as Lightroom) with Photoshop. I learned some new tricks and was reminded of some old techniques that I hadn’t used in a while. It got me using Photoshop on a daily basis again. Great stuff. I hope to have a full review of the book up on my blog soon with my own pictures that emulate the subject and feel of yours. Finally, the momentum from the 7-Point book makes me very excited to see volume 2 of your Digital Photography Book. I’m sure it will have the same relevant and practical information that is the signature of your style.
Hi Scott,
I just picked up book #5 that was authored by you. It occurs to me that I have been having trouble lately reading photoshop books from other authors. It seems that I don’t have to work as hard when I read your books as I do from the others and I seem to be getting a bit lazy. So, if you don’t mind can you please make your books more difficult to follow - or can I just give you a list of things that I would like to learn in the next year or so that way you can write about them and I can go on being fat, lazy and happy. Ok, not really fat but definately lazy and happy.
Thanks,
Alex
Mr. Kelby,
I bought volume I a few months ago and I really can tell you it helped me to improve my technics and expand my knowledge about photography –I had read a couple of books before but, all of them were very formal and technical. I’ve been interested in digital photography since four years ago. I live in El Salvador, Central America.
Your book helped me to get the best of my new semi-pro camera. As a newbie and amateur photographer I am looking forward for your new work. I also have become a daily reader of your blog.
There’s no doubt that your work is helping lot of people to keep the enthusiasm for the wonderful world that photography is.
Thank you very much.
Daniel
Scott,
I love your last book & I can’t wait for the next one coming out. I learn so much from your book. Scott you the man. I just wanted to say I love you wife and son in your sample pictures. Your son really looks & acts like you. It would be a honor to meet you one day. Keep up your awesome work you do. Be bless in all you do.
Jason
Hello Scott,
I bought the first book and learned so much. I have a question if you have the time to answer. In the first book you show what is in your bag. I would be real interesting in knowing what would be in your bag if you had Canon equipment. Right now I am ready to move up to better lenses.
I have a Canon 30D. My beginner lenses have been a Tamron 24-135 and a Sigma 70-300.
I currently have a Tokina 12-24 F/4 lense. I am considering my next purchase to be a Canon 24-70L F/2.8 and then possibly a Canon 70-200L F/2.8. Would you have better suggestions.
I am also undecided whether to get IS on the 70-200. It is my understanding that this would slow down the auto-focusing for stop action pictures which is my main reason to not get it.
I would greatly appreciate any advice. I want my next purchases to be the ones that last for awhile.
Please email me if possible.
Thanks,
Derrell Gore

Scott, Mr. Kelby!
You opened a whole new world to me. I’ve always wanted to learn better photography techniques, wanted to be able to take and produce photos better then just snap shots. Even getting a better , (Nikon d80) camera did not help much. Until I picked-up your book “The digital photography” Vol.1. My God! How enlightening! How great can someone expalin ithe complicated things in such a way that a novice can become great! I sudiet every chapter, every page and tip. Never before was I so exited to study as this time. Not long after that I happen to go on a trip to Patagonia. Armed with the BOOK and my equipment I was able to bring home waht for me and my family is a treasure, great nature photos! Many of them now hang on walls in our house, our friends and relatives call me aprofessional photographer. I have since purchaed the lenses and printers that you recommended and my photos improved yet more.
thanks a lot for being there for me! I hope one day to meet you! Can’t wait to receive the Vol.2 I ordered.
thank you, very much for making my life more interesting and substantial.
