Catching Up

By Scott on Friday, November 30th, 2007 at 1:40 pm | updates.

Hi everybody. Sorry no post yet. I do plan on posting later today, but right now we’re at DEFCON 4 trying to get this book out, so if you check back later (much later), I hope to have an important post up, so thanks for your patience. :)

Mr. Kelby — I am relatively new to serious digital photography and completely new to Photoshop (CS3), having started out in Aperture (I work on an iMac and didn’t know any better). I was just getting into your book “. . .CS3 for Digital Photographers” when I made the decision to switch from Aperture to Lightroom 1.3. I like LR better than Aperture already, and the thought was that I could do 90% of my images completely in LR, using only CS3 for special needs. Then I discovered that LR lacks at least one crucial feature (for me): soft proofing, meaning that now all my images will have to go through both LR and CS3. So the question is: do you plan on a book for digital photographers that addresses and entire LR/CS3 workflow? Next best thing, when might you be updating your LR for Digital Photographers for release 1.3?

Hi Scott, love your book CS3 for Digital photographers. Just a thought regarding your dilemma with Forewords— why not simply make it
Chapter 1 under the heading “Road Map” or “Navigation” with a short expalanation that it is futile to advance beyond this point if you wish to gain from the book what is intended–that being education.
      Cheers from Australia,

      John Byrne.

      Scott,
I seriously can’t get enough of your books and I use them regularly. About the introduction, I always read them but I guess that proves once and for all that I’m a geek. Anyhow, if you really want to get more people to read them there’s a very simple thing you can do. Seal the introduction pages together, like with some sort of sticker. When the book is picked up the first few pages will be sealed shut in a group. People ALWAYS feel compeled to break a seal to see what’s inside. Think of when you’re in the bookstore, or even WALMART for that matter, and you’re purchasing something with a seal somewhere on it. Chances are, someone has already broken the little sticker and looked inside just to do it. Hope this helps.
Also, I was wondering if you would know if there is ever a time when tickets to Photshop World or Photoshop Seminars are given out. I’m relatively new to Photoshop and have SO much to learn. I would love to get to Orlando, but since I’m a student I will have a hard time affording it. Any info would be helpful.
Thanks for keeping your books so easy to understand!

I just hope you get plenty of rest before Monday. A bleary eyed teacher with an intravenous caffeine drip is not encouraging. See ya Monday in Honolulu!

      Aloha,

Mahalo for all your efforts, enjoy and have a safe trip.

Splurge a little, make sure you try some Pineapple Soft serve, I think they are zero calories :)

      Hi Scott,

First, thanks for all the fantastic work you do sharing, informing, and exploring all aspects of photography. I’ve personally benefited from your books, magazines, television shows, interviews, blogs, etc., and pointed many friends in your direction.

Second, I caught your interview with Michael on his November 13th program (The Digital Photography Show #74). I appreciate hearing what you thought about the Mark III but would very much like to know how you think it compares to Nikon’s D3. Which, in your opinion, is the better camera? I’m getting ready to jump into the deep end of the ocean and spend $5,000.00 plus one of these big boys, so want to be sure I’m clear on the pros and cons of each camera. Thanks!

Did my first Photomerge today in Photoshop. I followed your tutorial
(The digital Photogaphy Book) and it worked out just fine : ^ )

With your next book, maybe you could put a cd inside with some fun stuff like “the intro” and so on! Thank you! Thomas

Use the concept of a quiz and put the answers (the information you want them to absorb) on the web in a special place only owners of the book can get to. The prize would be a free tutorial that enhances some item in the book (if that is possible, as you do such a great job in the book already)

Recently purchased your CS3 for Digital Photographers Book. Obviously this was written before the 4.2 and 4.3 updates to Adobe Camera Raw. So your instructions concerning the “Clarity” slider (page 90) are not applicable. Do you plan to provide any updates or errata that those of us who purchased your book would be able to access — at least for ACR 4.2 that has been available for awhile?

As they say here in Korea “FIGHTING!!” which is meant as words of encouragement. Keep up the good work and I will be looking for your book once I return to Canada.

I hope you enjoyed your break away with family and your time with Joe McNally, I was in Venice, Italy with him earlier this year on a 5 day Photographic Light workshop.

Joe is an amazing guy, in fact I only went on that workshop after him apearing on Photoshop User TV and by chance buying a UK magazine advertising him doing Venice what a stroke of luck.

I am one of those peeps that has bought a few of your books for years and hey you got my sucked into NAPP now 8:),

Just want to conclude and say thanks for previewing this guy, the experience has helped me move my photography forwards leaps, je was actually writing sections of his new book while we were in Italy in May, really looking forward to reading it, if you have a spare copy, dude send it to me !!!! address on request….

Big thanks to you and your team, you do a great job week in week out,

      Have a nice day

      Scott,
While working for the Navy, I was fortunate to have many trips to Hawaii. The one thing I remember was the truly amazing sunsets. I expect you will capture a few - hope you post them.

I’m working my way through the 7-Point system and already see results in my images. Thanks.

      Enjoy the time in HI,
      Tony
