Today We Introduce a Truly Groundbreaking Subscription-Based Online Training Experience
OK, this is really, really, really big news; today we just launched a groundbreaking new online training program, featuring the best teachers on the planet, and it’s subscription-based so you get unlimited access to ALL of our online courses for an amazingly affordable price.
Here’s a Q&A with all the details:
Q. Before we get started; do I have to read all this stuff, or do you have a quick video clip that explains it all?
A. Yup, we sure do. Here’s the link.
Q. So what is subscription-based online training?
A. In the past, we’ve offered online training courses, and it was always “Pay as you go” (basically, you’d pay individually for each class you took). But now you can pay one annual subscription fee and then you have unlimited access to all our online classes.
Q. You said this is amazingly affordable. OK, how affordable is it?
A. Our annual subscription is only $199, or you can pay $19.95 a month. By contrast our online classes used to be around $70.00 each. If you took just three classes, you were already paying more than our new subscription tuition. Now, you get unlimited access, all year long, for only $199. That’s just 55¢ a day, for unlimited access to the best Photoshop and photography teachers on the planet.
Q. What if I’m a NAPP member? Do I get a discount?
A. Absolutely! You get an annual subscription for just $179 (or only $17.99 a month).
Q. How many classes do you have online right now?
A. We just launched today, and we already have 34 classes up online, right now, with more waiting in the wings (and I mean literally waiting in the wings; including some amazing new classes going up next week!)
Q. What makes you guys different?
A. We knew we had to do something really special to stand out from the other online training options, so we asked ourselves what is the single most important aspect of any online course. Is it the topics? The price? The technology? The quantity? The look? What is it? We think the single most important thing is “The teacher.” It’s who you’re learning from, and their connection with the students. It’s their passion, their knowledge, their ability to communicate and share in a way that makes sense, that’s engaging, and even fun. That’s why we built our entire program around one thing; bringing you nothing but the very best teachers on the planet. Period.
Q. So who is on your faculty?
A. Only the most gifted teachers like:
- Katrin Eismann
- Bert Monroy
- Dan Margulis
- Dave Cross
- Ben Willmore
- Matt Kloskowski
- Eddie Tapp
- John Paul Caponigro
- Terry White
- Moose Peterson
- Joe McNally
- Rich Harrington
- David Ziser
- RC Concepcion
- Fay Sirkis
- Corey Barker
- and Vincent Versace (with more announced in just the next few weeks).
They don’t all have classes up live yet, but we’re working on them all as we speak, and as soon as one of their classes is complete (they’re all doing multiple classes), we’ll open that class up to our online students.
Q. Scott, are you teaching any classes?
A. You know it! Today my “Photoshop CS3 for Digital Photographers” class went live and I’ve got two more classes on the way: (1) Professional Portrait Retouching Techniques, and (2) A class I’m co-hosting/moderating with photographer Andy Greenwell on “Building Your First Studio From Scratch” (which is scheduled to go live in the next 10 days).
Q. If the teacher provides files for us to practice along with, can we download them, or do we have to pay extra?
A. You get ‘em without any extra fees whatsoever. It’s part of your subscription.
Q. OK, I’m a photographer; tell me something that’s going to get me really psyched!
A. How’d you like to learn landscape photography from Moose Peterson, the man behind the renowned “Digital Landscape Workshop Series.” We flew a camera crew out on location to Montana to take you on a live landscape shoot and training workshop with Moose himself.
Q. Now you’re talking. Tell me more!
A. OK, next month we’re live on location in a beautiful church with world famous wedding photographer David Ziser, where you’ll learn the secrets of pro wedding photography. Learn from the master as David photographs the formal bride and groom shots, and you’re right there with him as he explains everything from lighting to posing to how to turn this all into profits for you.
Q. That’s what I’m talking ’bout! OK, can you give me just a little more, cause I’m getting pretty psyched?
A. This week our video crew was in the studio with Joe McNally and on location for an amazing environmental portrait shoot with a ballerina that will blow you away. Imagine learning location lighting, and professional off-camera flash techniques from the man who literally wrote the book on location lighting. During the taping our crew said (and I quote,”this one class alone is worth the entire year’s subscription”). This is just a peek at what’s already “in the can” and what’s coming in the weeks and months ahead.
Q. How ’bout spilling the beans on a cool unannounced class?
A. No sweat, cause I’ve got a killer class for ya. How about an Adobe ACE Certification “Boot Camp” class from Matt Kloskowski, the same guy who taught the live ACE Boot Camp pre-conference session at three Photoshop Worlds! That’s coming online in the next couple of weeks, too. How cool is that!
Q. Can I get a sneak peek at how it all works? How about letting me try a couple of lessons?
A. Sure, why not. Head over to the KelbyTraining site, and click the “Try it Now (Free)” link at the top. You can watch the first three lessons from any of the classes to get a sense of what we’re doing, how the player works, and stuff like that.
Q. This sounds just amazing. How do I sign up, because I want to start taking classes today?
A. I knew you’d say that (’cause I wrote it). You can sign up right now at the site, and start taking any one of our classes today. Plus, you’ll have unlimited access to all new classes as soon as they go live.
Q. Thanks for taking the time to do this Q&A. It was really helpful. It’s like you knew what I was going to ask before I even asked it.
A. It’s a gift. I have to say, I really felt a connection with you. (Or, with me. Well, you know what I mean).
So that’s it folks. You’re seeing the ground-floor launch of something that we’re very committed to, and very honored to be developing for you. I invite you to subscribe and join me and Katrin, and Dan, and Bert, Matt, Dave, Ben, Eddie, Vincent, JP, Rich, Terry, RC, Joe, Fay and the whole gang as Kelby Training brings you the very best training, from the very best teachers on the planet, with a tuition that’s affordable for every one, and every company. Here’s the link to start learning with us today.
That’s it for today. Hope to see you back here tomorrow for my Friday wrap-up. Have a great Thursday everybody!

WOW. WOW. WOW.
I don’t know how you do it. But keep on doing it…
Amazing news.

Good news – I will write about it to our blog readers.
Keep up the good work, and see you again on Monday
you don’t have time to sleep much, do you?
Hi Scott and NAPP team,
NAPP Rocks!! I am completely excited about this. I will sign up very soon. Every thing on your Q & A was great. I was sold when I read the start because I finished my Master’s emphasising Online Education, but the definate selling point for me was the ACE Boot Camp you mentioned.
Thanks again Scott,
Mike
Scott this is just awesome! The list of teachers, and stuff to come soon is great! I can’t wait to subscribe after Christmas.
Absolutely fantastic stuff!! I will be signing up today!
I’m speechless……It’s like you read my mind….really…..I was just thinking how cool that would be if you provided online training with all the best…and you did!
Thanks for all you do!
WOW…. Scott… you’ve done it again. Amazing. I’ll be signing up today and I”m going to post it to all my readers. Take care.

Great to see the Kelby empire continue to grow & amazing to see the many different ways you figure out how to educate us. Books, seminars, dvds, blogs and just when we think NAPPs done it all, you find yet another unique way to reach out & teach.
Just in time for those last minute shoppers! I’m truly excited about all the wonderful stuff I am going to learn in 2008!
Can I also say thank you for the 7 Point book? I’ve been a photoshop user for about 2 years and I have been struggling with the very things this book solves – having to relearn everything every time I sit down to edit photos. Shortcuts now actually stick in my brain that I couldn’t remember before no matter how hard I tried. I can’t believe how much faster I can get things done.
Lora
Only got half way down the posting and you had me signing up. Plus it will solve my wife’s Xmas present for the “Guy (read me) who has all the toys already”. ( at least that’s what she thinks).
Keep it coming Scott
Wow! What else can you say. That is a truly awesome idea! Thanks guys, that is really one for people who want to learn, but can’t always spend $1000. I have to buy a few xmas presents first, but I’ll be signing up soon!
thx guys!
This is genius! and dirt cheap – I think I will gift this to myself. Scott you are relentless in your training solutions. Thank you so much
Rob
I have been contemplating trying a NAPP class but was put off by the price… not that it was a bad deal, but it wasn’t pocket change either if I wanted to take more than one class.
This is great news! I will definitely be signing up!
Where do you find the time!?!?! You need to create a course on your ‘life’ workflow to show us how you get all of these wonderful projects done…
Thinking to myself: Hmmm…. ‘Life Workflow’ ….I might have to trademark that.
This is great! I was looking for your name at one of the other sites, under the instructors, and thought to myself how cool it would be if you offered a similar service. And with the money I’ll save, I’ll sign up to be a NAPP member which is something I’ve been planning to do anyway! I’m sure this will take off and be a great success.
Marcy
All I can say is “GENIUS!!”.
Thanks to all at NAPP for making our lives easier!
Rich
This is amazing!!!!! I can’t wait to try it out over the holidays – thank goodness I have next week off!!!!!! Congrats on yet another big success!
Scott, one question – any chance that Ben would add his HRD classes to this training? I’ve been wanting to take them. Thanks!
I can’t believe my luck – only yesterday I bought a Nikon D300 with some brilliant lenses (most excited about the Micro-Nikkor 105mm) and Canon iP9500 A3 printer and lots of other goddies… This morning I upgraded from CS to CS-3 and spent the rest of the day researching tutorials and so forth. I’ve already ordered via Amazon your ‘7-Point System’ and ‘Digital Photographer’ and was about to go crazy on training DVDs when I refreshed your blog and voila – have just signed up and can’t wait to soak up everything I need to realize my creative vision. Thanks a million
Victor
Very Cool!!! You guys need to stop this.. I am becoming broke from buying all your books and now this!!!
Keep up the great work! Anxious to dig into these classes!
Fantastic news! Bye bye Lynda and hello Kelby. I am so going to get fired for watching all the videos at work now. Thanks.
Like Stacie, I’ve also been wanting to take the HDR class by ben… Hope you guys put it up….
Scott
Have a merry Christmas and thanks for your passion and inspiration
youve been a great help. I hope the holidays bring you a boatload of Joy
David
Wow! Santa Claus do exist! I mean..this is very nice!
I`ve become a photoshopholic and I like it!
Thank you!
Thomas
Scott, I have a big problem now:
I can`t stop watching!! Ok, next video:
Double Processing in Raw.
How to process the same photo twice, using Smart Objects,
to create a photo with range your camera couldn’t capture.
The landscape photography class with Moose Peterson
(Photographer, Photoshop World) was amazing!
Thomas
Wow, this is going to be another phenomenal resource for the Adobe community! I too love all your books (especially the 7-Point system) and can’t wait in the future (tax refund time) to sign up for this awesome online training as a NAPP member. How do you do it? You write a ton of books, blogs, Photoshop TV, teach at seminars, run a business, etc. What is your secret for getting so much done and still being a family man? That would be a book I would want to buy for sure!
Take care, and God’s rich blessings be with you, your family and everyone here.
You never cease to amaze me!! Great lessons – great instructors – great price!! NAPP just keeps getting better and just in time for Christmas!
sounds like an amazing resource!
You can’t imagine how thrilled I was to read this post. I used Lynda.com for months before moving to Zambia and learned a great deal. I was hoping to access your new online tutorials but our connection here in Zambia is way too slow. However we will be moving back to America in three years. Until then, I will purchase the DVD versions of these classes.
Thanks so much for making learning FUN! ~~Beckie~~
Scott,
How about eventually adding all the content from the Photoshop Seminar Tour for each of those classes that way subscribers can watch it on the site, it will also draw more people in to subscribe.
Either it can be filmed at one of the seminar stops or be filmed the way the rest of the content is filmed. Also at some point it would be nice to have the more popular Photoshop World sessions filmed and on here.
Is Lynda.com going to continue sponorsing photoshopTV
You have really outdone yourself this time. I can’t wait to sign up for Christmas! Keep making this world better, one pixel at a time Scott.
How on earth did you manage to keep this quiet for so long?? … must have been driving you nuts wanting to tell everyone.
Absolutely fantastic news Scott. Can’t wait to get stuck into it.
Have a fantastic Christmas and here’s wishing everyone a happy and successful 2008.
All the best to you and yours,
Glyn
Kelby Training & NAPP are the best! I signed up as soon I read about this yesterday. The list of instructors and class content is already outstanding & looks to get even better. A few bugs with the player quitting during a class but I know you will get that worked out. I imagine the load on the servers was way more than you expected.
With a new D300 and recently added CS3 Suite this is going to be a fantastic incentive to improve. Thanks for everything all of you do help us learn.
Happy Holidays to all of you.
Took a look at one lesson and signed up for the year on the spot.
A great Christmas gift to myself.
Mel
Scott,
I signed right away, but somewhat disappointed. The lessons are “freezing” and its hard to get them to play back if it shuts down. I don’t think its an issue on my end.
I don’t see classes by McNally, or Ziser. I guess I thought you you had a Flag ship ready to sail……..Had I know that, I would have waited until they were up and running.
I would appreciate bringing some clarity.
Kind regards, and Merry Christmas
Ken L
Hi Scott,
Its looks great, and I want to sign up, but not until you get the bugs fixed.
I have the same problem as Ken L. The “Free to try” movies are either not loading or freezing.
I will check in again later on.
Merry Christmas to you and yours…
Jan W.
Hi Scott,
I just signed up (I’m a NAPP member) and am having the same problems. The videos are unusable. They hang up and I haven’t been able to watch one all the way through. Now nothing is loading.
I love the concept and will continue to subscribe as long as you fix the problems. It would be nice if we early adopters got a little extra time on our month’s worth of videos since we can’t use the service yet.
Best of luck on your endeavors!
Hi Scott,
I think that the flat rate pricing is an incredible offer and shows your companies commitment to learning and accessibility to that learning for almost all who want to get it. Kudos to you!
I was hoping that I could make a request for a course. I would really love to see a course on Film Scanning Techniques.
While my film library isn’t that extensive compared to digital captures, there is still enough to make it a huge undertaking and not cost effective to get a service to do it. At scan times that can sometimes run close to an hour, it would be great to do it right the first time and never have to do it again.
I’d love to hear about things like the right settings to use to create a master scan, what software and file types to save scans as, what corrections should be done to during the scan and which are better left for “post,” etc.
Hope that this is a helpful suggestion. As it is probably a topic that many of your experts have already wrestled with these issues and I am sure have come up with some great solutions that would really help us old enough to still remember what a negative or a slide looks like.
Thanks and keep up the great work!
Hi Scott:
I am having the same problems as the others. I signed up for a month, but it has been intermittent. I hoping it is just temporary but what I have sampled it is very good.
Good luck to your team of tech people!
Victor
Oh I’m stoked! Can’t wait to see the ACE certification course! Thanks!
I am having the same issue as the others. I spoke to customer service and they said the problem was on my end. Not so sure now that I see all the others experiencing the same kind of problems. Anxiously waiting for the bugs to get ironed out.
I still love the concept!
I just signed up. I’m in need of really good IMMEDIATE PS training, and I think this will work so perfectly. With this kind of on-line training and selection of classes, I’ll be able to learn a bunch of really cool and useful stuff and apply it right away to my own photographs. So excited about getting started. Thank you!
Scott –
FYI – I left a brief review of this training system on my blog – http://www.imdigitalphoto.com/2008/01/reflections-of-night.html
Ivan
On kelbytraining.com do plan on doing any classes on making graphics, like web graphics or graphics for print. Not just classes about photography.
Hi there!
There’s one thing stopping me getting these videos – Deke’s not doing any? Do you think he will in the future, he’s the best teacher I’ve ever experienced!
Mark
