The Book Report

I’ve got a bunch of book news, so I thought I’d put it all in one quick post, so here goes:
- Joe McNally’s landmark book, “The Moment it Clicks” is already sold out just about everywhere, and the publisher has already gone back to press for a 2nd printing to print another 25,000 copies, so if you want to get yours as soon as they’re available, preorder yours now at Amazon.com or Barnes&Noble.com. Congrats to Joe for creating the most highly acclaimed photography book in years! Note: Here’s a recent review on Joe’s book from Michael Clark Photography [link], and an in-depth review from David duChemin at the PixelatedImage blog.
- On Saturday I saw one of the first copies off press of Matt Kloskowski’s new book, “Layers: The Complete Guide to Photoshop’s Most Powerful Feature” and it came out just beautifully (some of the people who pre-ordered his book have already begun receiving their copies). His step-by-step method is really ideal for learning Layers, and his whole project-based approach really makes the book stand apart. Here’s the link to it on Amazon.com and Barnes&Noble.com
- Here’s some recent reviews I’ve run across on my book, The Digital Photography Book, Vol. 2:
> Stephen Zeller Photography (link)
> Professional Snapshots.com (link)
> Hal Maclean (link)
> Mike Lao (link) - Also, ThinkCamera.com picked my book, “The Photoshop CS3 Book for Digital Photographers” as one of their top five books of 2007. I would have really been excited, had they not prefaced the mention with, “Some hate his worn-thin humour. Some dislike the fact that he tells you what to do rather than shows you how to do it,” particularly because it’s true. Hey, I am what I am.
(Here’s the link). - Also, I’ve just finished up the latest edition of “The Photoshop Elements 6 Book for Digital Photographers” and it’s on it’s way to press, so we should see copies before long. And, for this latest edition, I brought in my buddy, and Photoshop User TV co-host Matt Kloskowski as my co-author, and I’m totally psyched about having Matt on board. He rocks the houseski (Sorry, I couldn’t help myself). Here’s links to the book on Amazon.com and Barnes&Noble.com
Thanks for reading for this episode of the Book Report.

Hey Scott! Thanks for putting up a link to my blog - was surprised to see it! I can’t stress it enough, you are definitely teaching us a lot of things. I look forward to reading your blog everyday. Keep it up!
Congratulations again on the success of your books! I have all of them! I’ll probably pre-order Matt’s Layers book within the week.
Mike
Hi Scott,
Looks like an expensive month on Amazon for me!! Just received Volume 2 of your Digital Photography Handbook - and again (as always), brilliant!
Thanks for everything you and the guys share with us. Just trying to track down a copy of Joe’s book in a shop (!) as I want it, now!!
Thanks again
Rich
Scott, I received my copy of Joe McNally’s book from Amazon when it first shipped. Unfortunately, it was defective having two copies of pages 1 to 16 and no pages 17 to 32. I shipped it back to Amazon for a replacement, but as you report, they are currently out of copies. I suspect that one reason may be the printer’s error, since I doubt that my copy was the only one that was defective.
Love your humor! Those people are just jealous they aren’t writing and selling a gazillion books
Hi Scott,
Thats great news about your book sales! Your Photoshop CS3 Book for Digital Photographers title is starting to appear in UK Apple Retail Stores as well now, so even Apple like you as well!
Hey I hope Kathy Siler didn’t beat you up too bad after you having her take Stephanie’s place on the Storm Action TV News segment of your show, lol!
Anyway, keep up all the great books you write!
Paul.
I just ordered Matt’s book from the publisher’s site. I picked it up for $29.99 and it ships for free!!! Note: it sells for 26.39 on Amazon, but shipping will set you back $3.99, so you’ll actually pay more with Amazon than you would ordering directly from the publisher!! I’ve ordered the last few books that Scott wrote directly from the publisher, they ship via DHL, and I receive them in a day or two.
Below is the link to the publisher’s website:

You can pre-order Joe McNally’s book here as well. From past experience, I can assure you that you will receive the book far more quickly than you will from Amazon or B&N.
Finally, whether you purchase directly from the publisher, or someplace else, if you go to the publishers website you can register your book and gain access to a bonus chapter with more of Joe’s stories. Just log in or join peachpit.com, then enter the book’s ISBN. After you register the book, a link to the content will be listed on your Account page under Registered Products. Registration is free!
Dear Scott,
regarding the negative comments about your humor, all I can say is this
“You are what you are,and we love you for it and we swouldn’t have you any other way!! keep on rocking!”
Actually, Amazon will ship Matt’s book for free (Super Saving Shipping) so you only pay $26.39.
Actually, there is a 5% discount for preorders, so it is only $25.07 shipped (with Super Save Shipping) from Amazon. But if you order it from kelbytraining.com, I think I read somewhere that Matt will sign it.
Scott,
First - your humor is great. I could never read your books in a public library because I would get tossed for laughing out loud. And the info is beyond great.

Second - It was your review that caused me to buy a D300. In one word -WOW.
Paul / Danger Girl-
You are both right. I didn’t notice that this item qualified for Super Saving shipping and that there was a discount for pre-ordering. That makes Amazon cheaper by $4.92. Keep in mind that Super Saving means waiting 5-9 days for delivery, whereas the publisher ships via DHL and you get it in 1-2 days.
I would point out however, that I have read numerous reports from other users on this blog about shipping delays with Amazon/B&N and everyone should be aware that there are alternatives to the big boys.
Scott -
FYI - I also did detailed review of your and Joe’s books. Here are the links:

Great Job twisting Joe’s arm to write THE most informative and funny book on photography I’ve ever read! I cant stop laughing!!!!
When is your Photoshop CS3 Down & Dirty Tricks book coming out?
I see it’s keep on getting delayed and delayed, the CS2 version is missing in action all together. Scott, please clarify about this book on your blog or atleast rely to this comment for the viewers of the comments to see.
I bought The Moment It Clicks via Amazon in early Feb; it shipped quick, but mine too has the first sixteen pages inserted twice, with pgs 17-32 missing entirely. Even with that, it is one hell of a book!
