Friday News Quick Wrap-up Thingy

By Scott on Friday, February 22nd, 2008 at 6:03 am | updates.

Hi everybody. Here’s what’s happening today:

itunesbestsm.jpgOne of my friends sent me this; Apple sent out an email last month, and it featured their Editor’s picks for Best Podcasts of 2007, and Photoshop User TV was one of their picks (seen here—we’re in the bottom left corner). We were totally psyched! Also, I finally got to see Photoshop User TV on “real TV” this morning (no, I didn’t stay up until 1:30 am Wed morning. That’s why God invented Tivo), and I realized that our corny jokes are just as lame on the TV screen as they are on the Web. Anyway, it was fun getting to see it finally up there.

  • Nikon released another couple of free updates; this time to Nikon Camera Control Pro 2 (for shooting tethered to your computer), and an update to Nikon’s Capture NX. Here’s the link where you can download both.
  • Our buddy Dave Cross did a quick little video about Matt’s new book on mastering Photoshop Layers, and if you didn’t get a chance to see it yesterday on Dave’s blog, here’s the link (Congrats to Matt; the book has just been out two days, and they’re already going back to press for the 2nd printing. If you want to get yours anytime soon, I’d go order your copy now).
  • Corey Barker “The Photoshop Lad” and co-host of “Layers TV” has a pretty cool little video tutorial over at PlanetPhotoshop.com on how to create folds and creases on an image (it kind of makes your image look like it was folded up like a map, and then unfolded—you have to see it to see what I mean). Anyway, it’s pretty clever, and definitely worth checking out. Here’s the link.
  • I did a brief interview over at Peachpit.com with my book publisher Nancy-Aldrich Reunzel, and we covered everything from what kind of gear I’m shooting with now, to my personal workflow, to what are some of my most memorable shooting experiences. If you’ve got a sec—pop over and read the short interview right here.
  • This guy, I like: (click here). When you see the photo, you’ll know why. ;-)

Have a wonderful weekend everybody. Try to get there and do a little shooting, then come back inside and do a little rearranging of pixels, and then have a yummy slice of pie. Doesn’t sound like a bad way to spend a day now, does it? See you Monday!

      Scott,
As another early riser, I thank you for getting up early ( or posting late the night before?) so that we can read before the sun comes up. Of couurse I should be outside with a sturdy tripod, but i promised no more sunrises until March first.

      Hi Scott,

Thanks so much for a brilliant website and for encouraging guys like me who are passionate about photography and photoshop.

I can only agree with you about the bad news that is broadcast through the media these days. I live in South Africa and it is the same here. There are days that I just don’t watch the news because so much of it is negative. I know that they need to keep people informed about what is happening, but it feels as though the bad guys out number the good guys in this mixed up world we live in.

I have resolved to go out each day with the attitude that if I touch someone’s life in a positive way today, then it could make a huge differenced to the way I feel about life and the world we live in. I think that the best way to shake off the down feeling after watching negative news is to turn it around by a positive attitude towards the people we work with. Find someone who you know doesn’t deserve kindness and give them kindness. Also find someone who doesn’t deserve compassion and show them some. This is the quickest way to shake off that yukky feeling and retrieve your sanity in a sin sick society.

      Regards,

In your interview, you say that Camera Raw in Lightroom has features that are not in CS3. What are they? Thanks

Re: the pic with all of your books.
You should leave a comment on his photo site. He obviously likes you, and a lot of people look to you like you’re a rock star. For me, it would be like Dave Grohl pointing to me at a Foo Fighters concert, and saying “You, Rich Stokes, rocked the hardest tonight!”

Kudos to Matt on his new Layers book, I thought I knew a lot, but in the first chapter I wished I had some of that info last December when I was putting the Miss Rodeo USA Pageant Program together!

Looking forward to Dave Cross’s new program in OK City on Wednesday, I bet he’ll rock us all!

      Your buddy,

Just saw a piece on c/net news where they want people’s input on which is better - Lightroom or Aperture. Could be interesting to see who wins.

      Dear Scott,
I was wondering how you get that blue wavy background on photoshop instead of the plain gray. I would love it if you could please email me and let me know…or announce it on an episode of photoshopusertv.
      :)
