We just posted a brand new online class at KelbyTraining.com from color legend Dan Margulis, and it’s called “The Picture Postcard Workflow, Part One.” Personally, I’ve been dying to take this class, ever since Dan was down here recording the class, and he gave me a folder full of before and after images, and said “Take these home and see if you can take the “before” images and make them look like the “after” images. I spent that night throwing every trick I had at them, and wasn’t able to come close. I tried Lab channel moves, Curves, Selective Color, High Pass Sharpening—you name it—it didn’t come close. Of course, Dan knew I wouldn’t figure out his new technique , so I’m sure he slept pretty well that night. If you want to see a sneak peek—click here to watch a sample of his brand new course.

    Hi Scott,

I started watching Dan’s beginning LAB color series yesterday on Kelby Training. The first I ever heardo of LAB was in your 7 Step book. Your LAB stuff was interesting, but Dan really shows how much one can do with LAB. Colors literally Pop off the page. This alone is worth the price of admission and I haven’t even gotten to the meat of LAB color.

    Thanks,

    Mike

Ever since I started going to kelby training I’ve been watching Dan’s classes and I think it’s pretty easy to say that I am sold on anything he does.

Dan’s books have been a great source of information for me and now with Kelby Online Training I’m able to watch him in action. Please don’t make us wait too long for lessons two and three.

    Thanks!

Hi, would you be able to post some of the before and after images so that we can gauge the power of this workflow? Thanks!

Note that the first video in Dan’s 3 part series is all about removing color casts with RGB curves. This skill comes in handy for most images and he demonstrates it on 36 examples. I found the video a great reinforcement for the material in his books.

Yeah thats it, i’m gonna join now, well when I get though processing my lastest load of images. I read some people rave about this at Photoshop world and was hoping it would be put on the training site.

You know this training thing is great for people like me in Australia. Actually I’m in Perth, which is supposed to be the most isolated city in the world. While there’s a few courses here and there, they can’t compare to what it looks like I can get through online training. I mean I can’t shoot with Moose, but heck I can go and watch a shoot with him, thats almost as good. And the price, well there’s a lot of these courses that are available on DVD for $60 or more, but to get them all for $20 a month, thats a bargain.

So I say: Three cheers for Scott Kelby and his band of photo teachers!

    Okay enough ranting ;)

I think the classes look great. Hugh picture to see the details but I was viewing a sample and it seemed very jerky. Quick stops and starts that are very distracting. I’m wondering if it’s my PC? My graphics card isn’t latest.

I’d really like to sign up but I wouldn’t be able to appreciate it the way I view it now.

    Thanks

I really appreciated the way that in his introduction, he told us what he is “not” going to cover, and then what he “is” going to cover. He also gave us a heads up that Part One, which lays the foundation, probably won’t be as much fun as Parts Two and Three. Very helpful.

Yes, I agree with all comments posted above about Dan Margulis and his new Picture Postcard workflow. Dan’s grasp of color theory and correction methodology is second to none. In fact, I would say he is a genius in this field. No other instructor teaches the intricacy of color correction to the level that Dan approaches. I’m not sure that anyone else understands the subject as thoroughly as Dan does. His techniques are not intuitively obvious at first glance, but well worth the second and third re-reads. The video training opportunity that Scott has made available to all of us is the next best thing to attending class with Dan. Thank you, Scott!
