Moose Peterson Shares His Favorite Nikon D3 Settings

If you’re a Nikon D3 owner (you lucky $*#&@), then you’ll want to take a quick trip over to Moose Peterson’s Nikon D3 microsite to catch his new video clips where he explains some of the most important D3 settings, and shares his own personal settings (and why he uses them). Really great stuff, and if you own a D3, this is a must-see for sure. Here’s the link (and kudos to Moose making this resource available).
In some semi-related news: one of the absolute coolest, most fun, and most enlightening things I got to do in 2007, was to be a part of two of Moose’s “Digital Landscape Workshop Series” on location workshops. Moose has put together a really unique learning environment for photographers, and if you’re into landscape photography, this is literally the cream of the crop, taught by the best in the world (including Moose himself, Joe McNally, and Laurie Excell). Their workshops always sell out in advance (in fact, I had to call in some favors to get a close friend into an already sold-out workshop later this year), so if you’re thinking you might want to attend; I’d sign up right this minute (if not sooner). Here’s the link.

Which one are you attending???? I am heading out to Redwoods in May.
Sorry – I hit Submit too quickly.
Anyway, I attended Cape Cod last October and it was a photography changing experience. The instructors were amazing – I felt very comfortable asking them all sorts of questions about everything from settings to the shots that they were getting. The one-on-one critiques were invaluable. And the encouragement was exactly what I needed to keep photographing through the long days. I also met some great new friends who I still keep in touch with. My only complaint – the locales tend to be out of the way, which is great for photographing the landscape, but flights tend to be pricey.
Scott was at the Cape Cod Event for two days and it was a treat to ask him questions about Lightroom and look through his viewfinder as well!
Hi Scott,
Have you used your D300 in combination with the 200mm f2.0?
thanks
George Bartolo
Hey Scott,
Thanks for the link. I’ve now loaded in Moose’s settings so I can make full use of this awesome piece of kit.
Cheers,
Glyn
Scott,
Back on December 27th you blogged that hopefully you would be coming out with a new training video online called “Professional Portrait Retouching Techniques with Adobe Photoshop.” Any chance it will be coming soon?
Moose’s info is great and it works for the D300 as well
Dear Scott,
I wanted to bring to your attention a couple of profiles on CNN video on Steve McCurry and Ann Geddes and Magnum Photo, Maybe you can share with your daily readers.
Thanks,
Tim
Is Moose, going to offer settings for D 300?
Thanks for the link, although I also follow Moose’s Blog as well (was at one of his wonderful DLWS workshops in Utah).
It’s helping me wait for my D3. I’ve been on a list since Oct/Nov. for the D3 – and now – yesterday – I have an actual TRACKING NUMBER! I should be able to put Moose’s info to work on Thursday.
Hi Scott. I have been going crazy trying to pick a tripod. Can you tell me which traveler tripod you use(1550T?) and does it close fully with the rrs 40 ballhead? Will there be a big difference between this and the gitzo 2530? I also saw a manfreto neo tec tripod. WOuld u recommend this on as well? By the way, I love the d3 settings. I use it on my d300 and I notice a pretty big difference.
