Classes I’d Love to attend at Photoshop World in Orlando

I used Dave Cross’s ingenious “Photoshop World PDF Planner” to pick which classes at the upcoming Photoshop World Conference & Expo (on April 2-4), I would take if I wasn’t teaching any classes myself, and could attend a different class the entire conference–just like an attendee (see the graphic above, which was generated from Dave’s planner). Now, these aren’t my suggestions for everybody else; these are just the sessions I would catch if I could (although I am going to do my darndest to catch at least one class per day—that’s much harder to do than it sounds with my schedule).

If you’re going to Photoshop World, go to Dave’s site and download his free planner—you will love it. If you’re going, but you haven’t signed up—there’s only two days left to take advantage of the $100 off early bird registration. If you’re not planning on going…why the heck not? I checked Travelocity last night for some flights to Orlando, and here’s what they listed as their cheapest fare (cheap!):

(All roundtrip airfares)

  • From Charlotte, NC: $148
  • From New York’s JFK to Orlando $158
  • From Chicago O’Hare $200
  • Boston $193
  • Atlanta $166
  • Cleveland $186
  • Detroit $213

Hotel rooms are fairly cheap too, because the conference is so close to Walt Disney World. I hope I’ll see you there! (Here’s the link for more info, or to register).

I’m jealous of the cost to fly within the US between major cities. Flying from Canada is typically more expensive but since I live in eastern (PEI) Canada, I would be looking at a $600-$800 plane ticket.

Scotty, thanks for this post…helpful. Hey, am I correct that sign up for classes (other than pre Con) only occurs on site/day of…in other words can’t sing up now?

      Thanks

      Hi Ned (AKA: Blurry Bird):
You don’t have to choose you classes in advance; you just show up for the class you want to take, and you can move between classes any time during the conference. That way, you can pretty much create your own schedule (with the exception of the free portfolio reviews; they’re free for any conference attendee, but you have to sign-up for those in advance on the site. Also, you’ll need a ticket to Midnight Madness, and that’s the hardest ticket to get because the seating is so limited, but I have a feeling I know someone who can get you one (another blurry bird shooter). ;-)

      Take care,

      -Scott

Hey Scott, looking forward to the conference in sunny Florida (i am coming from chilly & snowy Boston). Anyway, how does one purchase a midnight madness ticket? I purchased the pro-pass and I don’t believe that ticket is included. I couldn’t find anything on the PSW site. Did I miss it somewhere on the site? Is it too late to buy one?

      Thanks!

I guess no one on the left coast needs air reservations. I’ll wait until Photoshop World comes out here, and I don’t mean the Vegas $350/night rates. just call me LEFT coast out. Please take a hint.

      How cheap are those flights?

I checked the price from Perth. It will cost me around $3500 Aus for the return flight.

I reckon you should schedule it down under next year :)

This is my first PSW. There is so many great classes it took me two weeks to figure out which one to go to. As for airfare, I’m live near Montreal, Canada and the airfare via a canadian air company is expensive. So, I’m driving to Burlington, Vermont (an hour and half drive) to fly with Jetblue cost $212 return. And with the strong Canadain dollar it actually cost me $209. One month to go…
See you guys and gals there :-).

      Thanks

Where does one turn to to start at the absolute beginning of learning photoshop?, I’d really appreciate an answer.
      Thanks

Jim, Kelby training is hands down the best place to start…and finish (though that’s highly unlikely)…plus there are books galore on the topic…might find a few hundred through NAPP…

(Blatent plug in effort to score Midnight Madness ticket)
