David Ziser’s “15 Ways To Improve Your On-Camera Flash For Wedding Photography” Class Now Online
I’m so excited to share the news that David Ziser’s Live On Location class for Wedding Photographers, called “15 ways to make Your On-Camera Flash Take Better Photos” is now up live at KelbyTraining.com. I’ve been to David’s pre-conference on-location wedding shoot workshop at Photoshop World, and I can tell you first-hand that David is not only a world class photographer, but an absolute world class instructor as well, and he shares what he’s learned with the heart of a true teacher.
If you’ve always wanted to take a class with David, well…now’s your chance (this is just the first class, of five that David has taped for us live on location). Here’s the link David’s Class at KelbyTraining.com.

I was a little hesitating to register but I admire the work of David Ziser so much that I will subscribe very soon!
I take advantage from this post to tell you, Scott, that your last book “Scoot Kelby’s 7-point System” is genius! And thanks a lot for your extraordinary blog!
I am not a wedding photographer and not at all confident about using camera flash. David Ziser is truly illuminating in his explanations, demonstrations and images in this course. I have learned a lot from his consummately professional and masterly presentations. I am going to try his techniques. Once again, another terrific course from Kelby Training!

That sounds like an amazing class! Just about to go and watch it.
I’m about to shoot my first wedding when I noticed this class show up on the site. I when through the whole thing yesterday and will probably do the same again today. I certainly hope you offer more of David’s classes ! I’m not quite so freaked out about my first wedding now.
Scott,
Been waiting for this class since you started Kelby Training Online. It was definitely worth the wait. Went through it last night and will watch again as soon as I get a chance. Looking forward to David’s next classes! He is a great instructor and I love his classic style.
Thanks for making Kelby Training Online available. A great site.
Tom
Scott, I’ve written before but had no reply so here I am again. I want so badly to take advantage of Kelby Training Online but I do not have internet speed fast enough to use your delivery system. At lynda.com I can download each snippet and although the download is choppy, I can play it again and watch in real time. Once the next lesson begins to download, the first disappears making it impossible to pirate.
Is there ANY way you can make this available to people like me? I do not have faster speed available in my area or believe me, it would be mine. Your online program would be ideal for me if only it were accessible.
Thank you,
Beckie
As a first time wedding shooter I was excited to see this class posted. In viewing the first lesson, however, I was a little confused on one thing. David seems to be making the point that the size of the light source will affect the degree to specular reflection on the skin. This isn’t my understanding. I read “Light: Science and Magic” a few months ago, and my understanding is that reflections or glare on the skin like this is more a function of the texture of the skin rather than the size of the light source. The size of the light source will affect the harshness or softness of the shadows, but skin glare is something you can control only though the angle of incidence, polarization (of the light source or a filter on the lens), or changing the degree to which the surface diffuses the reflection (i.e. powder makeup, etc.). Maybe I’m wrong here, but I’m just not seeing how the size of the light source would amount of glare coming off the brides face. I believe the before/after pictures more of less support this — even with the large reflector we still see quite a bit of glare off her skin.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I’ve never visited the kelby training site, but after watching even the preview videos I’m sold. Now I just have to convince the wife to loan me some money…
Hey Scott,
On the road again in Asia, watched the PSUTV options all the way over, what a great way to spend the cruise hours.
Got to watch Dave Ziser’s class on wedding photography while I was in Shanghai, what a very knowledgeable guy! Lots of techniques and info that you can only get from being a world class wedding photographer for years and years.
Planning on watching it again when I get home. Great blog, and excellent on line training. Hana ho, hana ho!!!

Scott,
I purchased a Nikon D 70 three years ago and I love it. What an amazing camera! It took me two years and the birth of a child to really start trying to utilize its capabilities and to learn how to use it better. I have read your book, The Digital Photography Book, Vol. 1 and it is terrific!!! I read the acknowledgements and love the final paragraph! I plan on buying Vol. 2 soon! I am interested in buying an extra lens or two and have been on the B&H website to investigate. I get lost in all the lenses. I was wondering if you could make some recommendations. My camera came with an 18-70mm lens. I noticed in your book that you recommend a lens that can adjust to 85-100mm for portraits, could you recommend one in particular for this. I am also a high school football coach and am interested in buying a “zoom” lense to capture action shots. Could you recommend one for this as well. One final request, could you recommend a particular polarizer for landscapes and a UV filter? Thank you for all your help!!
David
A truly awesome class on Wedding Photography. I see Dave Ziser shoots with a Canon 40D in the class, but do you know which lenses he is using?
It appears he is using two or three different ones throughout the shoot. Any feedback would be very helpful. Keep up the amazing work. This is an amazing resource of help.
Thanks Paul

Fabulous Course!!!!! Couldn’t have come at a better time as I was photographing my first Bar Mitzvah this past weekend and threw in some of David’s techniques.
Nice job!!!

I did David Ziser’s course a few days ago and found it very helpful indeed. I only just got my speedlite so I am a total lighting newbie. I found his explanations very clear and easy to understand. Thanks
