Hi everybody. Here’s what’s going on:

  • First, the photos above (taken by RC Concepcion) are from NAPP week at B&H Photo’s store in New York City earlier this week (the class shot is during Matt’s Lightroom class). During the lunch break between sessions the gang at B&H took me to the Katz Deli (made famous by the movie When Harry Met Sally), and I had the best Corned Beef Rubuen of my life. Thanks to everyone who came out to see my class, and to the folks at B&H for being such gracious hosts to Me, Matt, and RC during the week. You guys are the best. (P.S. Hi Mordy).
  • Speaking of that class; the SelectedPixels blog did “live blog coverage” during my B&H Photo class on my Photoshop Seven-Point System; you can check it out, and their photos, right here.
  • This is too cool: the Pixsylated blog did a very slick, step-by-step tutorial on how to “pimp” Joe McNally’s “The Moment It Clicks” and turn it into a spiral bound version. It’s surprisingly well done, and if you have the book, you’ve got to check this out (here’s that link).
  • Just a reminder; I’ll be in Hartford, CT next week (Tuesday, May 13th), as we bring the Photoshop CS3 Power Tour to town for the first time ever. If you haven’t signed up yet, here’s the link. Hope to see you there.
  • Photoshop World instructor and DV and Photoshop guru Richard Harrington has just released a new book on Apple’s Aperture 2. It’s coming out any day; here’s the link to preorder it from Barnes & Noble.com or Amazon.com. Also I’m sending a big congrats to Rich on posting the 100th episode of his Understanding Adobe Photoshop podcast (here’s the link to it).

That’s it for today. I’ve got some cool stuff coming up next week, including some photos from my day with Jay Maisel, details of my Grand Central Station photo shoot (including a surprise subject), and with any luck at all, a video I did on how to use the Westcott Spiderlites for a portrait shoot. Should be a fun week, with little or no sleep.

Have a great weekend everybody, and Happy Mother’s Day!!! :)

    Hi Scott,

I am jealous of you shooting at Grand Central Station. That was my favorite shooting location before I moved to FL. Looking forward to your shoot details.

Regarding the photos above…way cool Zildjian tee shirt!

    Travel safe.

    Scott,

Pleasure meeting you and Matt last week and thanks to RC for not cropping my shiny dome from the photo. Next time, I’ll bring the dulling spray.

I think that Katz Deli was famous long before When Harry Met Sally… ;-)

    Scott:

You hinted at shooting in public with a tripod earlier this week. The suspense is killing me…

    Scott,

Is there a lecture/Tour in the UK this year? I caught Ben last year and it was fantastic, hoping to see someone over again this year (possibly Matt and Lightroom would be popular) and of course the chance to spend my money on shiny DVD’s etc. Although as the wife points out I have the Learning centre subscription already.

May I suggest that any back issues of NAPP could be brought over and sold for a nominal fee to NAPP subscribers (much as I like the digital issue) a physical copy would be nice.

I second Phil’s comment about PSUser magazine - I love having the physical copies (Layers magazine has a shelf all of it’s own!) too.

    Scott,

Looks like it was a great time in NYC! and thanks for the link to SelectedPixels…his coverage of the event makes me feel like I was there.

Noticed he noted you said ‘always overexpose’ where we’ve been trained since we were pups to always underexpose. For those of us who can’t get to a class before this drives us nuts, can you point to one of your books that explains that…or add a quick note to the blog about it?

Looking forward to seeing you guys at one of the classes soon. Till then, the blog is my daily refuge.

    Hello Scott,
I am new fan. :)! I am a digital filmmaker and have been involved in a few small projects for which I have had to purchase stock stills. I have always loved photography and dabbled in it years ago when we were still in dark rooms..so I decided to build my own stock photos.. Purchased a canon rebel XTI, and went hunting for a book and found yours. I HAVE READ THAT BOOK IN AN OUT.(VOL.2)..I have pages marked highlighted.done some of the suggested shoots, portrait “clam” tech. Your book is so friendly…so..i ventured to B&H book in hand to purchase one of the light meters and I saw that you were a guest speaker!! Wow. I missed that!!! hope to catch u again when ur in town. Thank You for your book. IT IS EXCELLENT!

    Hi Scott,
Katz’s Corned Beef Reuben is great but their “melt in your mouth” Pastrami is greater than great! Corned Beef Reuben comes far far second! Well, next time perhaps. Great class! I enjoyed it!

Thanks for the plug! I’ll make sure Tana, David and Gabe find even better corned beef for your next visit.

I’m waiting for you to publish Combining Two Passions : Scott Kelby’s Guide to Food Photography. Make sure to include a chapter on shooting wine…

Sorry I don’tnow where else to ask this question.

Will your new Lightroom book be a rewrite of your first book,
or could one purchase both without fear to too much repetition?

    Thanks.

    Hi Scott,
I am a Wedding Photographer in Miami Fort Lauderdale area. ( www.paulopics.com )
Few days ago I was in a meeting with other photographers, and I was telling them how much I like your posts and wondering how you find time to write a post every single day…
How many people write the posts for you and how many of the posts you write yourself?
    Thanks

    To Paulo:
I write each and every post myself. :)

Same thing with my books. If it’s just my name on the cover, I wrote every page of it myself (I don’t use any ghost writers or un-named authors). The only exception is when I have a co-author, and in that case we split the book 50/50 (so, if the book has 10 chapter, I do five chapters and the co-author does five).

I did have one book years ago, where I had another writer do a chapter on a topic I wasn’t that familiar with, but I gave that chapter author full contributing author status in the book, and included their photos and bio in the book as well.

    Thanks for asking. :)

    Dear Scott,
On page 21 of The iPhone Book I was directed to your web site
(www.scottkelby.com/iphonegear) where I could learn about your favorite accessories for the iPhone.
I love the web site and will pursue the treasures related to Photoshop but, for the life of me, I can’t find anything related to accessories for the iPhone.
    Help.
    Thank you,
    Ralph

Dear Scott, I know this may be a stupid question or one that has already been answered in a previous post, but I will ask it anyway. I am new to your web site and all things Photoshop. My daughter and I both enjoy photography together and she is thinking of pursuing it as a career. We would like to learn Photoshop and Lightroom but are not sure as to the best ways to get started to learn them, either through your seminars or your online training. We would need to start at the beginning. Do your seminars address things for people just getting started in digital? I recently bought and read The digital photography book vol. 1 & 2 and thoroughly enjoyed them. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    John
