Friday News Quickies

Here’s a couple of quickies to wrap up the week:

  • First, thanks to my blog reader Bill Dragga, who sent me the hilarious movie poster spoof you see above (and was kind enough to allow me to post it here), based on Matt, RC, and my experience at the tripod-weary Marriott Marquis in Times Square. I love it! (The poster; not the Marriott).
  • My hats off to the Weekly Photo Tips blog; This upcoming Memorial Day weekend their regular blog will be coming down to be replaced with a slideshow to honor American soldiers who have “gone on ahead.” Make sure you visit there now (they’re calling for readers to submit photos for the slideshow), and then make it a special point to return on Memorial Day to see their tribute.
  • Saw a quick review of my Hartford, CT CS3 Power Tour seminar, complete with a before/after technique from the seminar. (Here’s the link). There was also a review over at the ZenDog blog (here’s that link).
  • Congratulations to the incredible master bloggomanic David Ziser, of DigitalProTalk.com who just posted his 1,000th blog post. For most of us, that feat would take approximately three to four years, but David has done it in just 10 months! I just don’t know how he does it, but I’m sure glad he does. Thanks David, for bringing so much top quality content, insight, and advice to our community.
  • My thanks for the 640pixels blog for including my blog in their “5 Websites Every Photographer Should Visit Often” listing. Here’s the link.
  • Ignore this (unless you’re Mike): Hey Mike; I’m coming to see you—have you lined up a cool shoot yet?

That’s it for today. Have a great weekend everybody; take your camera out for a great spring shooting; keep showing those pixels who’s boss, and we’ll see you back here on Monday. :)

Hey Scott, I’ll try to find some good shooting spots for us when you come. JK will be walking with us. I’m still working on the Carrier shoot. My buddy in the Navy almost had us on. Talk to ya later.

    Scott,

I have a quick question for you - do you have a studio at your home? An extra room just for you? If so, what is the size?

    Thanks!

    What a great poster! “R.C. as Manfrotto”…brilliant!

Also, I couldn’t agree more with your observation of David Ziser’s blog. It’s a “must read” for me every day.

I don’t know how he has time to do everything but I’ve been to his workshops and he is one of the most energetic, passionate guys I’ve ever seen. He and I are about the same age and I couldn’t possibly keep up with him!

Awesome poster! When I worked for a cable access station we did a skit where we shot an obstacle course in the building. One of the obstacles was to run through “the hall of tripods.” Basically, you had to crawl through the evil tripods as fast as possible without getting tangled up or crushed by them.

Seriously funny poster. The “starring as Manfrotto” made me spit my drink across the room. :-)

    Hello Scott,
How can a nation allow it’s inhabitants the right to bear arms but then try and stop them using a tripod/camera in public? Is it a case of the camera being mightier than the Colt?

    Mr. Kelby,

    That poster is brilliant.

I take it that civilization has only seen the first wave of tripod attacks, considering that SLR’s on smaller tripods are pictured… Imagine the terror of a heavy weight tripod with an 8×10 camera on it…

A little of subject, but you said you might test the MacBook Air to see how it works with Photoshop. Any progress?
    Thanks

    Scott,

I’ll try to pre-scout some locations for Mike. In town a couple of days early to set up for next week. See you later and bring some wet weather gear.

So…I think I found the idea for a short movie to learn how to work with Final Cut Express!

    Love the poster.

Photographers throughout Los Angeles, with cameras in hand, will gather at Hollywood and Highland and Union Station to peacefully rally against the unnecessary treatment they have received from security guards, LAPD, and LASD while photographing in public places, and on the Metro.

Did a Google for “Tripod Police” and got 413,000 hits. Rather interesting posts about Tripod Police. One school locked down because of a person carrying a tripod. Another about the English parliment trying to set rules so people are not harrased by the police etc.
