My Brand New Book on Mac OS X Leopard is on its Way!

I’m really excited to announce that we’re just about 10 days away from the release of my brand new book, “The Mac OS X Leopard Book (Published by Peachpit Press). I took the same layout, feel, and writing style of my book, The Digital Photography Book, and applied that same concept to teaching people how to do the things they really want to do with their Macs.

Like “The Digital Photography Book,” I explain everything the same way I would to a friend, so there’s no techno-geek-speak—-it’s just you and me, and I tell you, short and sweet how to do all those things you bought your Mac for in the first place.

I really wrote for the book for all the new Mac users out there, who just want somebody to tell them, “Look, here’s what ya do.” So, the book’s not aimed at advanced users (but I’ve already had some more advanced users tell me they’ve learned some pretty cool things from it, so I was fairly psyched about that).

I cover everything from the absolute basics (in a chapter called “20 things every new Mac user needs to know”), to chapters on Customizing your Mac, working with photos, doing video on your Mac, making music on your Mac, setting up email, getting organized and a whole bunch of other stuff Mac users always ask.

The book has little tips scattered throughout it (like The Digital Photography Book has), but I end each chapter with an extra page of nothing but tips, and for the first time I also did a series of short “refresher course” videos for each chapter to really make it stick.

If you want to be the first to get it, you can preorder it today from Amazon.com (link) for only $16.49 (dirt cheap!), or from Barnes & Noble.com, or wherever cool books are sold.

    Hi Scott,
Welcome back. Let me just say, you have got to be one of the most prolific people I have ever seen. The Vinny spot was great and as always the community created through this post is astonishing.

If you’re in or around Chicago on June 7th, we would be honored if you could join us for PhotoWalk Chicago, it promises to be a blast. Please check it out, http://www.danablan.com/blog/ .

Hope you have a nice holiday weekend, be safe.

    Hi Scott,

Even though I’m a fairly seasoned mac user, I still will pick this one up because you never know what you never knew! On the subject of macs, you should consider writing a new version of “Macintosh the naked truth” some time. That was an excellent read and so much has changed since that was published, it would be great to have your insight and humour on the subject.

    Scott,

You might want to do some more research on the “Orphan Works” issue you posted about. I follow a few other blogs that cover these issues, and there is definitely another view on the topic.

For another take on the issue, your readers might want to check out Radio Free Meredith’s blog posting here: http://maradydd.livejournal.com/374886.html

She raises some very good points, and she also points you to several other sources that describe the issues in good detail. Before you write your Congress Critter, you might want to check it out.

I, at some point will be purchasing a mac laptop so this book will be good for me. However I do have a question. Currently I have Photoshop elements. I’m just a mom who loves taking pictures and playing with them and learning to do new things with my camera. I’d love CS2 but the budget just isn’t there for that. What I’m wondering is if you recommend the Elements for Mac or if you recommend one of the Mac programs like Aperture? If I understand correctly I think they actually do two different things, so should I get both or just one?

Yea! I will be buying this! We have been a Mac family for a year now, and love our Macs–but I know there is a ton of cool stuff we don’t know! Thank you!

Hmm..this reminds me of the book you wrote, “Macintosh: The Naked Truth” I kinda want to read it to see what your opinions are and what you have to say. I’m not really a PC only or Mac only guy right now. But I used windows for sometime and now for work I have been using a Mac Pro Quad with intels. Really…I haven’t seen anything about Macs that I like more than PCs. The programs crash just as much and less software. However Macs are stupid simple and thats nice. I’m just curious to see if I’m missing out on something haha. They are both great machines. But I think I might just go back to PC.

Congradulations Scott on another book, I would write urging folk to preorder a book but I am still awaiting the Photoshop CS3 Killer Tips I ordered in Sept 2007 . It still has not shipped yet, wonder what’s up? Chapters in Canada is showing the book published Oct 2007. Wonder if it will ever reach the public prior to Photshop CS4 hitting the streets. I know, just bugging, you have commented it is the publisher that is the issue. Too bad it makes a sour feeling to those who have been waiting for many, many , many months. Anyways, thank-you for the 7 great reads I have obtained and the knowledge I have gained , your are a great and wonderful writter. All the best.

    Hi Scott,
Would it be possible to show a typical page (or enable the ‘look inside’ on Amazon)?
    Thanks
