Dear Scott, just a short note I’d like to say a huge thanks to everyone at Napp, the tutorials are why I signed up but I have to say that the portfolios are why I return practically every day now. It’s fine to see a technique described but when I see what people do with those methods and the variety of their photographs I am simply blown away and consumed with envy! (of the best sort of course). I really can’t see any end to the possibilities of photoshop and now I am encouraging my 14 year old to mess with it, after all what will he be able to do when he’s as old and boring as me. Best wishes a Happy Scouser!

For those of you looking for more information on the Orphaned Works Act, the members of NAPP are building a website devoted to informing the public on all legislative points as well as how to fight for amendments.

Currently, the site is in the beginning stages of building (aka - kind of a mess and even worse in IE as we just started building it this weekend) - but there are many of us that are working hard on it’s development so we hope to have it working correctly quickly.

Scott you put the wrong address for Matt’s tuturial! You linked to his old (but awesome) edge effects tutorial and not his new brush stroke one. Edge effects on your mind? I just used that tutorial to convert a shot I wasnt happy with, and boy the transformation really works for this one I think:

In your 22 May entry you tell us about a NAPP discount for Photomatix. yet when I go to the member discount center on NAPP, it tells me the discount expired May 21, the day before you told us about it… Did I miss something?

Did I do something wrong that my post was removed? I looked for a email to see if by chance there was a reason for it but there was nothing. If I’ve done something wrong a notice would be nice so I know what not to do in the furture.

My main comment though is about Corey Barker he has some killer tutorials. Specially on his website. Planetphotoshop.com, I just don’t think the guy gets the credit he desevers at times. Glad to see Scott drawing attention to him. He has a lot to give in this field too.

Sen. Patrick Leahy is sponsoring the Shawn Bentley Orphan Works Act of 2008: http://www.govtrack.us/congress/billtext.xpd?bill=s110-2913

Rep. Howard Berman, is sponsoring a similar bill in the house: http://www.govtrack.us/congress/billtext.xpd?bill=h110-5889.

Both of these have links to a status page, and according to the corresponding pages for these bills, it appears that both of these bills have been abandoned. The senate bill was scheduled for debate on May 15 (and my guess is that it wasn’t debated; there is no info about votes and no date scheduled for the next step), and the house bill was introduced on April 24, not yet to make it any further.

FYI Scott - We’ve been discussing Orphan Works in the NAPP forums since May 6th… We also have a grass roots campaign building, and many forum members have already contacted their legislators…
