Hi Scott,
As a musician, Drobo make me think of Dobro! Anyway, another potential backup system is Windows Home Server. As well as a great backup system, it can also be a media server on your network, serving up them mp3's all day long!

Drobo isn't the only backup technology that offers reporting. My ReadyNAS gives me essentially the same features as Drobo, plus the advantage of a NAS unit. It emails me with any log entries and would identify any drive failures immediately. So Drobo isn't the only duck in the pond. The real question is why as hard drive technology has gotten cheaper, NAS units in general have maintained a rather high price?

I'd love to get out and shoot this weekend. And go to the photo walk. And I am going to a conference on Philly and will have Sunday afternoon free.

But my camera was stolen on May 16 from my car. It was covered and the car was locked, but my XT, 17-40, polorizer, and new 580 flash - gone. I'm trying to look at the positive - I'm getting the new 40D - but insurance has been slow to get back to me.

So - lesson learned - not matter how safe it is - don't leave your camera in the car because you'll miss out on all the neat weekend stuff.
