Exactly! Incidentally, the blog post "Believing is Seeing: Being Taken by Pictures" from two weeks ago made me understand why I love an old, technically awful (blurry, tiny, over exposed) snapshot of my sister. Of light, gesture, color, and time, it has only gesture and time, but they carry the picture.

I need to think more about gesture and less about pixels, channels, and light ratios.

In contrast to some earlier responses, I welcome the different points of view written by the Wednesday guest bloggers. While I'm no wizard with a camera, Photoshop, or lighting, I can manage. If I improve my creative thinking, I can put the technical stuff to better use.

I envy those who have the creative side figured out, but I will be learning it the rest of my days.

Hi Scott-
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE throw a little love our way. This Saturday in Chicago we're having our first PhotoWalk Chicago. Many people are excited, the weather forecast is good and we're just now hoping to get the word out through your post to ANYONE interested that will be in Chicago Saturday, June 7. It promises to be a good morning of shooting and collaborating and we're looking forward to meeting others from the NAPP community. I would guess that there are literally thousands of daily readers of your blog from Chicago. So a little attention will go a long way. Thank you. -Charlie

Scott -

I would have to agree with Democritus in regards to this blog. I am creative in my own way and come to this blog to learn about Photography and techniques. I guess I just look forward to your blog so much that when you have guest speakers that talk about writing and emotions of such I just lose all attention.

I don't know if I fall under the majority or not but take it for what it's worth.

JPC!

I always find exposure to your thoughts and words to cause me to take pause, and after that momentary lapse of reason I always find myself seeing the world in a different light.

I too have found that writing has been the key to a deeper understanding of my work and myself as s visual artist. The written word is a muscle that we flex on a daily basis, so it make sense that deeper understanding of that we frequently feel we can almost touch, taste and feel but seems to always be out of our grasp can be held when we write.

When I attended Boston university, I had a teacher, John Lipsky who required that I write a sonnet for him everyday. That sonnet was about something I saw, a relationship I observed or simply the light I saw.

John was my acting and playwriting instructor. He felt that poetry was the language of heightened emotion, as do I. What I have come to find is that through poetry, and through writing about what is important to me as an artist to say through my work.

Photographs are visual poems, and what better way to practice visual poetry then with written poetry? What better way to and clarity to the world of your personal art then through the use of words as a lens?

So thanks JPC for putting into words the words of your blog. Once again you've reminded me that the strength I find in my art is always reinforced by going back basics.

Scott:

In going over the recent Wednesday "Guest" blogs it seems to me that the original direction of your blogs have been diverted to the land of cosmic ideas best left to a course called"creativity 101".

It seems few of the past wed blog photographers want to talk about their individual digital photography skills in terms of their techniques.

This jump into the sky-blue cosmology by your guest writers on the Wed.blog is really too much philosophy and not enough of their shared secrets- their hands-on digital effects I find so exciting to know about.

I certainly would have been inspirited by if Paul Caponigro wrote about his fantastic and magical photographic techniques in the photos he showed, and not his endless philosophical tract on creativity. Now, there is nothing wrong with philosophical tracts on creativity, butt.........

I am certain your readers would gain more insight into digital photography in terms of how these different great photographers showed how they develop their skills; t their results in their digital captures.

Maybe you can ask them to include their special one of a kind digital techniques, and leave the abstract thoughts to their next book. I am not trying to be ungreatful or grateful,, but you got me use to a blog on digital photography as being practical information and without all the chatter on blue-sky abstract thoughts.

John Paul,

Thank you for the wonderful guest blog. It made me think of things and subject that I had only lightly contemplated and made me realize their importance. I like the tip about providing your interviewer with questions to ask you - very "Hollywood Publicist" and something I would have never considered.

Cheers.

John Paul,

Your words are always so encouraging. I often struggle, as in this post actually, with expressing my thoughts and ideas. Your insight into the art of communication can be seen as a virtual "roadmap." As I continue to develop as a visual artist, this will be kept as a tool for my development. Sincerely appreciated! And Scott, your blog is still set as my home page. I never want to miss a post! I love this new concept for Wednesdays. I dont think you will ever run out of artists to blog for you on these days as this industry is one of the most giving and sharing I can think of. Vincent's and Joe's were spectacular as well. Hey, theres an idea for a new book after a year....."A year in Wednesday blogs"

Thanks again, all of you
