Thursday News Quickies

First, a big thanks to the wonderful Moose Peterson for his inspiring story yesterday. He really brought things into perspective for many of us (myself included), and I can’t thank him enough for sharing his story and insights. Now, onto some news quickies:
- One of my favorite photography podcasts has been “The Digital Photography Show” and last week I did an in-depth interview with one of the hosts, Scott Sherman, and we covered a wide range of topics, I shared a few photography tips (you have to hear how he tricked me, and put me on the spot, into giving them—-it’ll crack you up). Anyway, it’s online now at this link.
- One of my readers, David Langston, brought this site to my attention, called PhotoPermit.org, and it has lots of stories relating to photo permits, the hassles of photographing today in public places, and more. Definitely worth checking out (here’s the link).
- I got this in an email from Kodak, and if you want a little Thursday photographic inspiration, click out this “Kodak Moments” Online Gallery. There’s some really great stuff there (here’s the link).
- Lastly, thanks to PhotoTrade’s “HyperPhocal” blog, who lists my book, “The Digital Photography Book, Vol. 2″ among their list of “5 books every photographers should own.” Here’s the link to their list.
That’s it for today, see you all tomorrow for a week-end wrap-up. Have a great Thursday, and keep showing those pixel’s who’s boss!

Scott -
I left a comment on the DPS blog but I wanted to be sure you knew how I felt. I have learned a lot from you and I thank you for that. Scott Sherman will probably be terrified (ask him about it) if he found out I left you a comment. I love the Photoshop Guys show, too! You can pass that along.
comment:
It was a terrific show as Scott Kelby is a tremendously interesting and colorful character. As I sit here in my office I can count (7) seven books by the prolific Scott Kelby. I don’t know how he does it but he does it very well.
Thanks
Thanks for keeping the nuggets coming Scott. I know from experience it tales a lot of time to put content out, yet you manage to do it consistently.
On a side note what do you use for your picture header. Is that some sort of Plugin for WP? Or is this even a WP site?

I have been taping the Photoshopuser TV infomercial for the last month and they have been showing the same episode every week. Has anyone else had that problem or is it just my cable system?
Hey Scott,
I said it the other day under Moose’s post, but since it’s more appropriate here, I’ll say it again – your talks with TDPS are always so entertaining. You can just tell y’all are having fun. So engaging, funny, and entertaining to listen to! Plus, as you said, there’s photo tips in there too! How much more can you ask for?
Funny thing about HyperPhocal – I was actually exchanging emails with Chris Bergman (the editor) over the last week or so – very cool guy too – I’d watch HyperPhocal as I think that place will be a very interesting read for amateurs, enthusiasts, and pros alike!
Hi Scott:
Thank you for your great blogs and recent “appearance” on DPS. I have your books and you are a great teacher and source of inspiration. When do you sleep??? Anyway, keep up the great work. I am a NAPP member and enjoy the creative ideas everyone shares there.
PS What blogging software do you use for your site??
I’m fairly certain Scott’s blog is done with Wordpress.
I am a fairly new listener of the Digital Photography Show and I have to tell you how much I enjoyed your interview on the latest episode! I’m new to photography and I’ve caught the bug big-time!
I have entered their contest and I hope to win a copy of your book. I purchased the first one and I’ve read it many times, each time learning something new.
Thanks Scott!
Just recently started listening to the Digital Photography Show too, and loved the tips that were pulled out at random from your book. It’s on my wishlist now!
I’ll have to give the hair-blowing idea a try with our “Wind Machine 3000″ – cheap and plasticky, but it moves a good bit of air around.
I have almost every Photography book you have written and several DVDs. I love when you are a guest on my beloved Digital Photography Podcast. You teach and you are funny. When you described your friend who was a superstar but very humble, I thought you could have been describing yourself. Thanks for continuing to be guest on DPS, and for teaching (with humor and humility) the world about photoshop and photography.
Hey Scott,
Thanks so much for being on the podcast. As an aspiring professional it is really inspirational hearing you pass on your wealth of knowledge to us developing photographers. Keep up the good work.
Scott,
You made a comment on “The Digital Photogrpahy Show” podcast…you said that the Canon 580EX has an optical slave like the Nikon flashes for remote triggering. Or so that is how understood the comment. However they do not have the slave. They can only be remotely fired by a radio trigger hard wired in or by Canons’ IR system. That is my biggest issue with Canon flashes. Also, it was not until they brought out the 580EXII did they even have a built in PC port.
BTW, I really enjoyed the interview and as always, I am impressed. Great work!!!

Scott,
Thanks for participating on the Digital Photography Show podcast, yet again! This must have been what, your 4th or 5th appearance? Anyway, I just want to say that it was a great show and I was happy that you shared even more of your phenomenal experiences with this great hobby (for me).
Immediately after the show, not only did I order BOTH volumes of your Digital Photography book, but also Joe McNally’s book as well. I’m patiently waiting for their arrival…
Take care!
Scott,
One site that I have not seen you talk about or recommend is the National Geographic Photo Tips site:

I thinks is a worth a look.
Thanks

Loved hearing you on the digital photography show! Thanks for giving such great tips.
Scott,
Thanks for the GREAT interview on The Digital Photography Show podcast. I and the Spring Hill Camera Club here in Florida (not far away from Oldsmar) can’t thank you and the guys at the DPS enough for all your advice, insight, and humor.’
Thanks,
Tim Neddy

Given some of your recent posts about photography in public places. I thought you might be interested in this blog I came across at WordPress.
http://discarted.wordpress.com/
“Photographers & concerned citizens in Los Angeles. / With the goal to shoot photographs freely in public spaces wherever, whenever, of whoever. / And a desire to get the word out, educate and engage.
There aren’t many legal restrictions on what you can photograph from a public place that’s already in public view. If you’re harassed, it’s almost certainly a law enforcement official, public or private, acting way beyond his authority. – Bruce Schneier, Security Tech Specialist”
Hi Scott,
Thanks for share your tips on the Digital Photography Show, I used one of them last night at my uncle’s 60th.
Cheers
Scott
Scott,
Great blog! I heard your interview on the DPS and as always a great interview/show! I have been a fan of your since I took my first (of many) PS workshop in New York many years ago.

Yo Scott!
Enjoyed much your interview on DPS. You’re like magic – everywhere! Enjoy your User TV as well…ya-da ya-da…got all your albums (opps -wrong guy)…got all your books. Your brother made me buy them at WPPI and join NAPP. Now how did he put it?…”or ELSE.” Sure didn’t want that ta happen. Boy Vegas is a tough place. We just club them in Detroit and take their wallet (just kidding Detroit lovers). Anyhow to make a long story longer I also bought Joe M’s book (cause you said so) and do enjoy the simple down and dirty format. Uh – why don’t you also do the same kiddo? (putting on me colorful Jamica hat) Your photo books are good mon. Tis dis 7 point photoshop book dat needs a bit of helping if ya know what I mean. (Green Derby) Aye – tis a fine book don’t get me wrong – I LOVE IT. But, me Tommy Boy it’s not very repeatable without reading the whole yarn again and again. Think process/work flow. Think synopsis. Think green clovers, yellow moons (darn another tangent). Just see the darn sample below dude. Out of here. Take care.

Scott,
Thank so much for all that you do to spread knowledge in the Photographic community, I enjoyed your appearance on the DPS. You have inspired me to build a home studio. Hopefully I will win the signed copy of your book. f not, I’ll be of to pick up both your’s and Joe McNally’s book. Thanks again for all the goodwill you do. Also, I look forward to watching you weekly with Matt and Dave.
Hey Scott! Thanks again for another appearance on The Digital Photography Show! That’s where I first learned about you and your books and it’s a true pleasure to listen whenever you’re a guest.
Us “regular joe photo enthusiasts” tend to hang on every word of professionals like yourself, but there are few of them I could seriously see myself actually hanging out with. If you’re ever in Kitchener-Waterloo, Canada, dinner’s on me!
Keep it up, man. The joy of photography IS for everyone!
Thanks for coming on the Digital Photography Podcast! I just ordered your new book because of it!
