Worldwide Photowalk Update
Aug. 4
5:09 am

Just a quick update on our August 23rd Worldwide Photowalk:
- A number of cities are already completely full for their walks, and we’ve had a number of cities now with multiple walks (like New York, with three walks), so if you’re thinking of going to a walk near you, don’t wait to sign up, because once it’s full—it’s full.
- We’re now up to 171 cities worldwide, but this coming Friday we’re going to have to stop adding new cities, so if you want to apply to lead a walk in your city, register right here right way. Here’s a look at some of the new cities just added:
- Montpelier, Vermont (USA)
- Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
- Tarpon Springs, Florida (USA)
- Kiev, (Ukraine)
- Johannesburg, Pretoria, South Africa
- Thousand Oaks, California, USA
- San Diego, California, USA
- Mexico City, Mexico
- Prague, Czech Republic
- Sugarland, Texas, USA
- Cedar Rapids, Iowa
- Gainesville, Florida
- St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada
- Juneau, Alaska
- Paris, France
- São Paulo, Brazil
- Reno, Nevada
- Warsaw, Poland
- Rome, Italy
- Spokane, Washington, USA
- Bilbao / Getxo, Spain
- Lansing, Michigan, USA
- Don’t know if you caught this last week, but Worldwide PhotoWalk official sponsor Adobe Systems graciously added 10 copies of Lightroom 2 as part of our photo contest, so 10-runner’s up for the grand prize will now get a great prize, too. Thanks Adobe!
- Keep an eye on Jeff Revell’s “Photowalk Pro” Web site (they’re an official sponsor of the walk as well), as he’s been giving out great advice to photo walk leaders, and participants on how to get the most of their walks (By the way; Jeff is leading two walks that day, one in the morning; one in the afternoon, and they’re both already full).
That’s it for this update. Thanks for everybody who has come on to lead a walk in their city, and to everyone who’ll be joining us for the walk. It’s going to be an amazing day!

Hi Scott,
Will you stop at Budapest (Hungary) too? This is a great city…
Cheers,
Andras
Typo in the first bullet: ‘don’t won’t to sign up’… I think you mean ‘don’t wait to sign up’.
Thanks Andrew for catching that—I fixed it.

Awesome list of new cities! This is turning out to be more and more special by the minute!!!
NYC is up to four walks now. There are still plenty of spots in the Greenwich Village walk and the Central Park walk.
Scott,
How are the Flickr pages going to be handled? Will each leader need to set one up for their walk or is the Web Team going to be taking care of that?
In the video, Matt mentioned that the walk leader would upload to the Flickr page. Is that the way it is going to be or will the participants be able to join the group and post there own photos to the page?
One last thing, when is the cutoff for submitting photos to the Flickr groups for the contest? I haven’t seen any guidelines for that yet.
Thanks,
Alessandro
Alessandro, I asked the same question to the contact given to us leaders, and I got an email back today saying that info on how to set up the flickr account will be sent later….we are supposed to give our participants 3 days after the photowalk to upload their top 20 photos to the flickr group, and then as leader, you are supposed to choose the best photo from the day.
Scott, hope you don’t mind me answering his question for you….
By the way, Jakarta, Indonesia is a new city added as well….
Cheers,
Scotty
Scotty,
Thank you for answering my questions. By the way, you have some amazing photography on your blog.
Spokane WA. THat’s neat to see one on my own area… Gav
I’m getting dozens of emails asking to join my downtown Los Angeles walk (which is closed, sorry, so is Mike’s in Santa Monica). There are two new walks in Southern California that still have space: Thousand Oaks and Orange.
C’mon, LA! Doesn’t someone want to lead one in Hollywood? Griffith Observatory? Old Town Pasadena?
Janine
By the way – this has to be the world’s biggest and widely spread photography event in history, right?
Wow, Scott. just think of all those new books your going to be giving away (1 for each city/walk)! Of course that means you will be selling 49 more pre city.
Please don’t forget to add San Francisco. It’s one of th emore beautiful cities in the world.
BTW, if I weren’t leading a walk, I would totally fly in for Jo’s walk in Koloa, Kauai, Hawaii. Not only is this an amazing location, Jo is an incredible photographer I would happily follow for hours, picking up tips and tricks (oh, wait, I already did that!).
Or I would go to Prescott, Arizona. I once worked on a film there, and it’s just scenic and historic beyond belief. If you’re a music fan, can’t miss Nashville, Tennessee.
Hana, Hawaii? Pretty much heaven on earth.
Las Vegas–are you kidding me?? No better place for tacky (I mean interesting) photos!
Niagara Falls–maybe our best North American water feature ever.

Hey Scott, this is Paulo Jordao (Photowalk leader from Fort Lauderdale, FL). Our list has been full for more than a week now, but mysteriously today I saw that we have just 47 names posted. Was it a mal function?
Anyway, I would like to say something about this Photowalk…
I think that what you are doing here is HUGE!!! You have accelerated the course of Photowalk History. Thanks!
I just need to ad something…
Two months ago, I organized a Photowalk here in Fort Lauderdale, and was a great event where 43 people had signed in (on sight). The fact was that I left an open invitation, as Jeff has done on his Photowalks, asking to everybody who loves photography to show up (the more the merrier). I know that you’ve planned just 50 people per group, but unfortunately I don’t think that everybody that signed in the list will show up, and a lot of other people that want to come to my Fort Lauderdale Photowalk have been turned back on your site (the sign in has been denied). I personally don’t want to handle 2 Photowalks in one day and I think that the photographers would have more fun and a better integration if I handle just the one Photowalk as I am doing right now (even if the number of people that shows up is more than 50 people). I just wish that they can sign in with you (leaders Page), so they would feel part of what you are trying to accomplish here, and not just part of my group.
I know that I can handle a group with at least 70 or 80 people, and the area that I selected is well prepared with few good Restaurants (for after the Photowalk). Please, I would take you to take this in consideration and think on the possibility of extending the Sign in list (at least on the cities that the leaders are asking for).
Sincerely,
Paulo Jordao

Scott,
When this Photowalk first started, I signed up right away (open) for Portland, Oregon with Laurie Excell as the leader. When I finished with filling out the form, it (the site) told me ‘username already in use’. I contacted customer support (NAPP) by e-mail 2 times and got no real response (form-we are sending to our techs) back. Tried the form several times again and eventually it told me I was signed up and I would recieve an e-mail.
I didnt get one, so I contacted Laurie E. and asked if I was on the list. She replied no and that the walk was full.
Phoned customer support (NAPP) and Linda told me she has no say or control over this, although techs did add ‘you are signed up’. Also that others were having this problem. Nothing she could really do for me. (Nice lady) Told me to contact Laurie again or ’somebody else’
Contacted Laurie and asked if she could somehow find a way to get his ironed out. Have not heard back from her.Worried she is gonna end up with 500 like me instead of 50, lol.
Is there any way you can find out what is going on? I am just hanging here with no answer. I am signed up, but not on her list…..
Pam

Please Scott don’t forget to include Panama City in Panama as a destination for the
Photowalk !
Thank You ,

Scott
Do you think NASA could sign up the Mars Rovers to take part!? Then your photo walk would be outa this world!!!
