It’s WorldWide PhotoWalk Week For More Than 6,500 Photographers!

Well gang, it’s almost here and I’m psyched!!!! This Saturday, August 23rd, more than 6,500 photographers will gather together to be a part of my Worldwide PhotoWalk, and I am just stunned, amazed, and absolutely thrilled that so many people have come on board to share in this experience. (Photo above by Jeff Revell).
This is a great opportunity to meet other like-minded photographers in your area, and just spend a fun couple of hours taking photos and making new friends. If you want to join us—there’s still time. You can sign up for a walk in a city near you by clicking this link to check and see if your city is hosting a walk, and if it is, you can sign up to join us (it’s free!).
Plus, you might just win something very cool. The leader in each city around the globe will be picking “the best shot of the day” for their city, and that person will win a copy of my update to the world’s best-selling book on Lightroom, “The Lightroom 2 Book for Digital Photographers.” (Of course, it wouldn’t hurt my feelings if you went ahead and bought the book now. Here’s the link to it on: Amazon.com and Barnes & Noble.com).
Then, I’ll be choosing 10 runner’s up who’ll each win a copy of Lightroom 2 (courtesy of our friends at Adobe Systems), and lastly I’ll choose one photo to be our Grand Prize winner. That individual will win nearly $5,000 in prizes, including a Full Adobe Creative Suite, a $500 B&H Photo Gift Certificate, 2 full conference passes to the Photoshop World Conference & Expo, the new Lightoom 2, and more! (Note: you do not have to join the photo competition to be a part of the walk—that’s totally up to you. If you just want to join us, shoot, and have fun—that’s really what the walk is all about).
Don’t miss your chance to be a part of this history-making event—come and join us this Saturday, for lots of fun and some great shooting opportunities with other photographers from your area.

Truly an event of Olympic proportion. Congratulations I cant wait to get my copy of the book.
Who is that guy in the dorky camo pants and Midnight Madness shirt??? Oh, that’s me. That shot was from my photowalk in Georgetown and I am extremely excited about this coming Saturday. I’m so excited that I’m hosting two walks in the same day. Now if we can just keep Fay from raining on our parade. So here’s to keeping crossed fingers in hopes that she blows off the coast before Saturday. See you Alexandria, rain or shine!
Jeff
This will surely be a grand event and one to remember for years to come. Thanks again to Scott and his team for putting this together!
Scott,
I too want to say thanks for putting this together. I am looking forward to meeting other photographers in the area and just have some time to get out and shoot.
Thanks again.

Hey Scott,
As with all the previous posts, thanks for putting this together and your innovative ideas! With the DNC being in Denver, our group is headed to Golden, CO. This is going to be great! I am really looking forward to it and meeting others with the same outlook!
I do have a suggestion. Jeff Revell had a post on your blog and he also did a guide on PhotoWalking. I know it help me to get prepared. Maybe you could post them again for some new folks to PhotoWalking?
Thanks again.
Dennis
I am so psyched to be on the Photo Walk in my area. While I’m not a professional photographer, I will enjoy the opportunity to see my city from a different perspective with lots of creative energy to inspire me.
Scott,
I am super excited for this weekend! It will be such a great experience. I will be in Detroit and am looking forward to meeting Terry White. I plan on putting my Nikon 18-200mm to work!
Thanks for setting this up! and thanks to Jeff who’s site I check all the time for photo walking tips.

Hi Scott,
I’m hoping the three amigos (You, Dave and Matt) are packing a video camera as I’d love to see the condensed video version of the Photoshop Guy’s Walk.

This weekend’s Dunedin, FL walk will be the highlight of my week and probably my month. I can’t wait.
Jeff Revell:
Jeff, since you should be given credit (possibly a silver or bronze plaque for first creating the concept of a “photowalk” in Washington D.C.)NAPP can place this plague along with a photo of you shot with the Nikon700 DSLR in their hallways full of pride!
I would like your suggestions for some proper wear for both guys and gals as to what would be fashionable to wear during this social outdoor event?
While we are only photographers or people who take still digital DNG full resolution digital images,
I would be proud if someone pointed me out, as that guy who from this day forward is proudly called a “photowalker phototaker” and not just someone snapping digital quickies for the delight of a small crowd of curious persons who may mistake us for vicarious thrill seekers hiding behind a camera.
Can you design a hat; a shirt; and photowalker shirt? We would be recognize where ever photowalks were held, and people would come up to us, and say, I know you are a photowalker phototaker too! Come home with me, and have dinner with us.
Lets show you our images also!
This would be an international, multicultural; multilingual fellowhship of digital cone heads moving together, taking pictures everwhere, sending e-mails world wide from a camel in Dubai to a snowman in the Alaska. We no longer would have to pay for stock images - to day we share,
tomorrow we photowalk!
Oh. Jeff what do you think?
Did you have winning photos last year? Are they posted?
Second request without a response -
Bought 7 Point System - it is based on downloading pictures to follow along. There is NO reference to where these downloads are located. This make the book worthless.
How about a response!
Ralph,
I know in many of Kelbys (and others) books there’s a website listed in the first couple of pages of the Intro section. Yep, you’ll need to take a close look for the website link. Or just do a quick google & I found the download site http://www.kelbytraining.com/7pointphotos/
As for the lack of response, I’m guessing Scott doesn’t sit and watch all of our posts. But I could be wrong though. Nor is the book totally worthless without the downloads - you can practice on your very own photos.
Please add Long Beach, CA next time. (We have tons of good photo locations and had a qualified leader who applied — twice — but we got zero responses from the organizers this time.) Personally, I had hoped for a Southern Calif location close enough for me to participate (disabled photographer here), but it was not to be this time around. Maybe next time — I hope! Meantime, I look forward to seeing photos from everyone who is able to participate.
Hi Scott, People here from Fort Lauderdale (South Florida) are very excited with this Worldwide Photowalk.
I just wrote a Post on my Blog giving some tips to City Leaders and Photographers on how you can enjoy and improove your photowalk experience.
Here is the link: http://paulopics.com/blog/2008/08/19/photowalk-few-tips-for-leaders-and-participants/
There I explain few things that the City leader can do to help his or her group (not just fro this Photowalk, but for future ones also).
Anyway… I can’t wait to meet all the other photographers Saturday.
Good Luck Everybody
Paulo Jordao
Ralph,
Your post really made me smile
I’ve recently purchased both “The 7 Point System” and “CS3 for Photographers” by Scott and in the hidden-introduction-masquerading-as-chapter-1 section he talks about how no one bothers to read the introduction anymore and how when they can’t understand the book, or where to find the files they end up hating him for life and sending rude emails (typical Scott Kelby humor I know, but prophetic none the less!)
@Scott: Thanks for two great books, the “7 Seven Point System” really helped the whole process click for me. It also brought me to the realisation that pro-level work can be achieved by anyone - it’s not such a dark art after all.
Thanks!
Brent.
Brent,
I remember that intro and thought it was funny too & a great idea. As many authors use the Intro section to inform readers they need to turn the pages from right to left or thank their dog. Scott actually puts useful info in those few pages including links.
Looking forward to getting my copy of the book. I’ve installed Lightroom 2 and I’m going through the standard, “Oooooh….what does this new button do?”
I know this post is really old but it seemed relevant to tell you about a new iPhone app I found that is going to ROCK for photowalks. Its called HearPlanet and it is free for the next few days… hopefully you see this comment before it goes back to being a paid app. Anyway, I tried it out and wrote a review on my blog if you want to get more information on it. http://www.tkrphoto.com/2009/01/hearplanet-application/
