Help Build an Orphanage in Kenya and Get a Signed Copy of My New Lightroom 2 Book

Earlier this year, two friends of mine, Joseph and Molly Bail, were so moved by the suffering of homeless children in Kenya, that they walked away from their successful careers, sold their home, their belongings, and moved their family to Kenya to somehow find a way to build an orphanage there.
Well, if you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you know that I keep trying to come up with ways to help Joseph and Molly get that orphanage built, and I’ve come up with a way where you can feed your passion for learning Lightroom, and help Joseph and Molly feed and shelter these children who so desperately need our help, at the same time.
For one day—today, Monday, August 25, 2008, if you pre-order my new book, “The Lightroom 2 Book for Digital Photographers” using this special direct link; I will donate 100% of the entire cover price of the book to ‘Springs of Hope, Kenya,’ the non-profit grass-roots group put together by Joseph and Molly to build this orphanage. (This opportunity ends tonight at 12:00 midnight, Eastern Standard Time, U.S.).
I’m not donating just “the profits” from the book, or “a portion of the proceeds” from today’s sales—you pay the cover price for the book, $44.99, and all $44.99 goes directly toward building the orphanage, and feeding these children. So, basically, you and I are in this together, both of us giving to make something special happen in the life of child.
Along with my humble and most heartfelt thanks, I will personally sign your copy of the book, as my way of saying thanks for supporting Joseph, Molly, and the amazing and selfless work they’re doing with homeless and street children in Kenya.
Now, could you buy the book cheaper somewhere else? Absolutely, but when you buy it here today, you’re not just buying a book, you’re feeding and caring for a child that desperately needs your help. No matter what else you do today, you’ll know that you did something that really matters. You gave a hungry child food, and hope.
NOTE: Here’s the link you’ll need to buy the book direct from Kelby Training, so the proceeds go to Joseph and Molly.
If you’d like to learn more about Joseph and Molly’s work, visit http://www.springsofhopekenya.org
IMPORTANT: This opportunity to help out is available only today, Monday, August 25th, 2008. Scott’s book is scheduled for delivery in early September. Not available with any other discounts. As always, Shipping & Handing is extra. Thanks for spreading hope.

Ordered!
What a great gesture Scott.
Mike
Awesome cause! My wife and I lived in Africa for 5 years, three of them in Nairobi, Kenya. We adopted both of our girls at from an orphanage there. One was only 7 days old when we met her, and the other was only a month old. They are 8 and 9 years old now and the best girls ever! We just got back from a vacation to Germany (was in Hamburg during the photo walk there, but as it was a family vacation, I did not go), and logged on to your website shortly after returning to Jakarta, Indonesia (where we live at the moment) to find your post about the Springs of Hope. I immediately canceled my pre-order with Amazon and re-ordered through this link. God bless you for helping Joseph and Molly with such a worthwhile cause!
PS. As this is my first post on your site, I also wanted to say I love the site, what you do for photographers (both for amateurs like me, as well as for the pros), and for your great books.
With respect and admiration;
Jacques
Good job Scott – I am getting it shipped to Scotland, which took the price up to $65.99 – but it is worth it (and that is before I have even read the book!!)
Well done.
Martin
An outstanding gesture Scott…. but I’m still waiting on my copy ordered in May …..
Great idea – I’ve ordered too. I’m guessing you’re going to have a lot of books to sign. Cheers!
Wow, Scott – hats off to you for your efforts here…looks like a very worthwile organization – and I’m ordering my book today!
There are so many worthy causes that need support…may I suggest another cause for people to consider: http://www.childvoiceintl.org/
This organization supports the children abducted to serve as child soldiers, children orphaned by war, and those left destitute by rebel activity.
I just placed my order! The style of your books really stand out against the dry photography / computer teaching books out there. I have learned so much from the books I already own.
Showing your generosity by donating 100% of the purchase price to charity is really over the top. Thanks.
Mike
Ordered!
Scott, I’m thinking that some orders will be cancelled at other booksellers. You better get ready to sign books like a sports star!
Great gesture, Scott. I am sure your generosity will be rewarded many times over. I am ordering my copy now.
This is pretty cool. We help some kids that really need it, and we get a signed copy of the book that started the photowalk.
Scott, I hope you’ve conditioned your hand for all the signing you’re likely to end up doing
Hey Scott,
This is a very nice move on your part. Maybe as an idea for next year’s World Wide Photo Walk, you could have a $5 registration fee donation that would be sent to Joseph and Molly.
Just canceled my Amazon pre-order and ordered from your website ~ you better give someone a heads up in the Amazon pre-order department, they are going to be scratching their heads today wondering why they are getting so many cancels!
Very generous of you Scott!
How wonderful of you! I wish your friends all the best with their work in Kenya – I have been looking forward to this book, but since I had just finished the first Lightroom book last week – was a bit on the fence about buying the new book. Thanks for making the decision easy for me
Ordered.. Great idea and happy to help.. Also can’t wait to peel back those pages.. your first LR book was great..
-Mike
Done
I already have the book on order with Kelby Training so I’ve mailed a check directly to CMCC today.
Your quite a guy Scott.
-Tim
Scott,
I have been following your blog and watching the Photoshop User TV for a long time and have learned a lot from you and the photoshop guys. I don’t frequently get to your announcements in time but today must be different. I applaud your efforts in teaching and spreading your knowledge and supporting good charities at the same time. You really are a great roll model for lot of photographers.
Ordered the book.
Thank you,
pk.
Hi Scott,
This is a great thing you are doing. I don’t use Lightroom (yet!) but I’ve ordered a copy anyway.
Oh, and after hearing you on the Digital Photography show a while back I ordered a copy of your Digital Photography Book Vol. 2. Keep up the good work (and the good works!).
John
Well I just bought the book and I don’t even have Lightroom (yet). Both my girls were born in China and came home at 10mos and 18mos old respectively (now ages 11 and 8), so kids in orphanages have a special place in my heart. What you’re friends are doing – and you as a result – is just incredible, the world needs more of them.
Hi Scott,
What a wonderful gesture to help others. Maybe others will follow your example.
I think I have all your other books as they are all excellent. I did have this on order with amazon.ca but have cancelled it and ordered from your site.
Nicely done!
Nicole
WOW Scott!
Very generous!
I have already had a copy on backorder but I ordered another one for such a great cause. It will make a great present for someone!
Best wishes,
Dermot

Hey Scott!
Thanks for supporting such a great cause!
I placed my order!
See you at PSW, Vegas.
XO
Dave
This is a great thing you are doing, Mr.Kelby. I just placed my order.
What a great idea which I fully support. I just cancelled an already running order (for a lower price) for this book and ordered here.
How fortuitous! For the last month I’ve been thinking of pre-ordering this book. But for some reason, due to circumstances the purchase never materialized. Now I know why. This is fate! Thank you for the opportunity to donate to this wonderful, fantastic cause. Bless you, bless you, bless you for your beautiful, kind generosity. Love ya, Scott.
What a great way to support a great cause, thanks for doing this Scott!
Fantastic offer. I love the first version of the book and I’m sure I’ll love this one as well.
I can’t wait to get the signed copy!
Glen
You got me with this one.
Great offer Scott….ordered!
Hi Scott,
Thanks so much for generously sharing your success with these folks in Kenya. I’ve gladly ordered my copy from Kelby Training and canceled my order with Amazon (Amazon gets plenty of my business).
DSLRs, lenses, Photoshop, and Lightroom are all fun, but they’re nothing compared to the needs of these kids. Thanks again.
Stan
I look forward to getting this book! The one question I’ve been wondering about does it discuss the features that weren’t part of the v2.0 beta but that made it into the shipping version. Does anyone know?
Scott -
In many ways, you are a teacher and inspirational. This is a great idea – I read sometime ago of your friends in Kenya and was touched by the story and amazing contribution your friends, The Bails, made as well as your support for them. Leaves me feeling very humble and even a bit ashamed of the comfortable life I enjoy. Cause for re-examination.
{pause}
Now, I’ve ordered the Lr 2.0 book and feel a bit guilty that I’m receiving this autographed title while you donate all your proceeds to this cause, so I also made out a little check to CMCC to help a little bit – it’s not much, but I know the generous and kind nature of NAPP members, I’m sure they’ll all add up.
Thank you for allowing us to share your passions and be involved!
You totally Rock!
Doug
I was the photowalk leader in Fresno, CA so I will be getting a copy of the book but purchased another one so that I can help Scott support this effort. I will then use this signed book as an auction item at the annual Spectrum Gallery Auction to help raise money for our local non-profit photo gallery which has been in existence for 30 years here in Fresno. I encourage all walk leaders to order a second book and do something creative with it – maybe a 2nd place winner for your group?
Your generosity and willingness to use the fruits of your gifts to share with “precious widows and orphans†will surely be rewarded. Otherworld treasure for sure.
Thanks.
Scott
Book ordered.
Congratulations, this must be unique. Donating 100% of the cover price must be unprecedented in this day and age.
Outstanding.
John
Scott,
I’ve been waiting FOREVER for you to release this book!
I’m glad I waited until now to buy it.
Thom
Scott, your passion for the cause left a lasting impression- just ordered through you rather than B&N or Amazon… Terrific idea.
you are a good man Scott – keep the faith bro
I’m in. I guess I’d better buy a copy of Lightroom before the book shows up! Great thing to do Scott.
Just ordered the book! Already have another one ordered, so I figure someone is getting a nice gift. I echo what everyone else has been saying. I deeply appreciate your heart and your willingness to be about things more important than ourselves. You truly are an inspiration in so many facets of life. Thank you.
What a fantastic offer, Scott.
I just ordered two copies. I’m going to keep one for myself, and give the other as a gift. If you’re going to personalize the copies, is it possible to request that only one be addressed to me, and the other simply signed?
That’s an easy one, Scott…..Ordered!
Thanks for the opportunity.
Tom H
I managed to mess up the order I think. I ordered today so could you please charge me what is needed in order to have the money go to Kenya. I was only charged the regular price on your site and want to participate with the orphanage.
Truly a fan, Scott. Ask Matt who I am. I parked in your space about three weeks ago and photographed my car! Matt graciously gave my wife and I a tour of KW Media. I appreciate what you are doing. Please pass along my thanks to Matt and Dave for taking time out of their busy day to be so kind. If anyone reading this wants to know if these folks are the real deal, trust me they are!
Beautiful gesture, Scott!
If more people were this generous, this would be a better world to live in.
I too cancelled my pre-order from Amazon, and took the time to explain why. I bet a lot of people did too
I guess you will be deserving a hand relaxation after all the signing!!
Ana
Scott,
What a great thing for you to do. Thanks for finding a way to make more of us aware of this great opportunity to help.
Jim Gilliland
A very nice gesture Scott, well done. I ordered my copy to be sent to Australia.
There are so many ways that we can support great causes – this is a creative idea !
We surely forget how rich we are that we can spend money every year on stuff that doesn’t really need upgrading. The majority of the world doesn’t have such a luxury.

Hi Scott:
What a wonderful gesture and generosity! We are all human no matter where we live and this is an example of your kindness.
Great blog as usual and I have just ordered the book through the link. As a NAPP member I appreciate many things you and NAPP staff provide for us.
Truly,
Ray
Truly the epitome of the expression, “A win, win situation” . I am truly inspired.
Thank You!
Ordered a copy of your book for the charity donation. I admire your community spirit and generosity.
Wonderful gesture and great way to donate, Scott!
Book ordered, so at least one signed copy of the book will come to Finland.
