What an Amazing Week at Photoshop World Vegas!
I’m back home, my Bucs lost in the last 44 seconds of the game, but nevertheless, I’m still buzzing from the amazing experience we had last week at Photoshop World in Vegas! (Click on the photo above for a larger view of some images from the show, taken by official Photoshop World photographers Josh Bradley and Brad Moore).
Over 3,000 Photoshop users from around the world came together for three days of learning and fun, and it was really something special to have been a part of it. I got to meet so many great people, including some regulars here on the blog, like Syl Arena, (pictured below left), the guy behind the PixSylated blog and a frequent commenter here on the blog, pictured with Mike Lao (below right), a longtime frequent commenter here on the blog, and leader of our Photowalk in Manila, Philippines. Two very great guys, and I was so tickled to get to talk to them during the show. I felt like we had all been old friends.
During the Expo part of the show, I did two live lighting demos on both Thursday and Friday; one at the Westcott Booth (on the Spiderlite TD-5s), and one over at B&H Photo booth on using the Lastolite Highlight Background, plus the Elinchrom Octabank and RX-600 Strobes, plus the new Skyport Wireless Triggers. Both demos were a blast, and the crowd that came couldn’t have been more attentive and appreciative, which really made it great fun for me. The photo below was taken during the B&H Photo booth demo. (Photo by Don Sturgis).
This was our biggest Expo ever, and the booths were jumping, and there were lots of live demos, entire training classes were taught on the floor, and there was just loads of wild new stuff (one thing that blew me away was “Flow” from Gridiron software. So much so, in fact, that I bought a copy right there on the spot. Here’s the link to their Website—take a minute and watch their guided tour. Just amazing technology!).
My thanks to all the instructors who gave of themselves, and held nothing back. My thanks to my in-house staff who worked tirelessly to give our members the best Photoshop World experience ever, and especially to everyone who came to spend a few days with us learning, laughing, and finding new ways to be more creative, more efficient, and more productive. I’m so glad you were a part of it.

Hi Scott,
Sorry about your Bucs.
Next year, spring or fall who knows, I will see you a PSW.
Mike
Looks like an absolute blast. I wish I could’ve been there.
Blake
Hey Scott!
So great to see you in Vegas. Thanks also for introducing me to Mike Lao. What a great guy… he came all the way to PW from the Philippines.
I noticed that the link to PixSylated has a typo (the Y and the L were reversed). I think a quick click on my name above this comment will jump over to the site.
Ciao! Syl
What’s special about the photo of me and Syl above is that it was taken by THE ONE AND ONLY - Scott Kelby!
It was great to meet you there, Scott! Looking forward to more Photoshop Worlds for me to go to next time.
The Expo was awesome like you said Scott. As well as the NAPP Photo Safari…Moose and McNally, talk about the “A” Team! That was awesome…and Nelson, NV…what an amazing place! I haven’t gotten through my images but I will let you know when I have them up somewhere.
Also big kudo’s to you or Microsoft or whoever it was that arranged to have Peter Read Miller give a bonus session!!! That was another highlight…he’s been a longtime inspiration for me. When I saw “Miller” on that session in the PSW Guide, I was glad I was sitting down!
That’s so funny! I can see myself on the far left of the lighting demo crowd picture trying to fight my way in, but no luck. Scott is a VERY popular man!
This Photoshop World was an amazing experience for me, Scott. How about a Layers World? Being a web designer, I could benefit greatly from that as well as many other people I know. Please consider it.
Hey Scott, you hooked me! Looks like a great time. When is the next one???
I can’t wait.
Dear Scott:
It was a truly amazing experience. Thank you so much for everything.
My 13-year-old son looked at the picture I had made with you at the end and his first comment was, “He’s a Buccaneers fan?”
That “Layers World” idea is pretty good. I need to get a subscription first!
Will you be coming to Atlanta on the tour? I’m excited to see Dave Cross later this month.
Blessings,
Dawn
Many thanks Scott and all the NAPP staff for a fantastic conference. This was my first and it will not be my last! The Mandalay is a great venue. I posted a few pix with my point and shoot (wimped out lugging the DSLR equipment).

Somewhat off topic: during your Typography Essentials session, you were seeking the keyboard shortcuts in Photoshop to the inch (”) and foot (’) marks without having to disable smart quotes.
For the Mac:
OPTION + SHIFT + E = ‘
OPTION + SHIFT + G = “
This post was made in early September after Photoshop World Vegas where you rave about “Flow†from Gridiron software. Well, I purchased this software shortly thereafter, but they’ve not released their finished application. Is Flow “vaporware” or do you think it will it be available someday soon? Thank you.
