Update: My New Lightroom 2 is Now “in Stock” at Amazon.com
Sep. 12
9:20 am

Good news—-a reader just posted that it’s in stock at Amazon.com, and sure enough–they’ve got it!
Here’s the link to it on Amazon.com.
As soon as it’s in-stock at Barnes & Noble, I’ll be sure to let you know.
P.S. The book is on the final shipping version of Lightroom 2—-NOT the beta. :)Â

I’m ordering as I type. Now all we have to wait for is a slightly better version of LR2 that doesn’t crash or slowdown. Who knows? Maybe Adobe will get it released this month. I’m back to LR1 until then.
Thx just ordered!
Great news Scott. I’m sending my order right away.
Can’t wait to read it. I’m sure it’ll be as amazing.
Great day to you.
I ordered one of the “charity” copies of your book. Do you know when they might ship? Seeing copies of the book at Photoshop World was killing me and I almost bought a second copy. But perhaps that was your plan all along
Does this mean that NAPP will be shipping the book soon? Ordered when it first was placed on the site for pre-order. EAGERLY WAITING.
great news. I hope amazon Germany also has it available soon. I plan to add a review on my website as soon as I can get my hands on it and read it. I am sure this will be a very positive review as I really liked your LR1 book.
Thanks Scott,
I just ordered it, hopefully it will ship from Amazons whearhouse in Delaware I should have it Monday or Tuesday! Now if my copy of lightroom 2 arrives from Adobe I will be a happy camper, my trial version time ran out, I’m Jonesin!
Scott, if you wrote an Aperture book, I would buy it in an instant. Do you or anyone else know of an Aperture 2 book they would buy or online training they would take? Unfortunately Photoshop User TV or Kelby Training doesn’t cover Aperture
Scott, was this book written around the Beta ver???It seems there were some MAJOR changes to the program from Beta to 2.0.
cooksfriend
Scott,
When will the WW Photowalk city winners be receiving their copies? I’m very much looking forward to shaping up my workflow and taking advantage of the improved capabilities of LR2. Thanks!
Since I’ve had this baby on pre-order since Apr 17th…. I’ve gota say that I’m a little disappointed that, as it turns out, I could have had it faster if I had waited and ordered it from Amazon.
I thought that I had all of the angst out of my system about this until I checked out the link to Amazon…. Scott what gives? This book is cheaper than my pre-order (including my NAPP discount) and comes with free shipping as opposed to … well, not free shipping. Dang dude, with the extra 10 bucks I could have almost bought a gallon of gas! (post IKE gas, anyway)
All whining aside, congrats on getting this out the door and if it’s as helpful to me as your LR1 book was…. then all is forgiven.
Scott,
Have to say myself I am disappointed with the pre-order. I just canceled from Kelbytraining.com and ordered it through Amazon. I was told by customer service at Kelby Training that you would not ship for another 2 weeks. I thought that Kelbytraining whould get it out a little sooner than Amazon. Congrats on the new book though!!!
Tom
Hi Scott,
I just ordered your new Lightroom 2 book from Amazon. Also, make sure you make one of those Lightroom Tour stops in Los Angeles.
It was nice meeting meeting you at the Photoshop World Expo in Las Vegas. It was great the way you made time for everyone who came up to you and asked questions and wanted to meet you.
Looking forward to next year.
Robert

On page 48 of your first Lightroom book, you introduce the concept of “Expanded Cell View” in the Tip at the top of the page. However, I can’t figure out how to get to the Expanded Cell View in the first place. What am I missing?
Thanks.
Already have the book, it’s fantastic. Nice one.
Fantastic!!! Can’t wait to get hold of a copy. Congratulations to you Scott :o)
Richard Schwartz: RE: Expanded Cell Views…go to the View Menu and choose View Options (it’s near the bottom of that menu). The first option in the Library View Options dialog that opens lets you show show grid extras and then you can choose Expanded Cells from the menu to the right. At the bottom of this dialog are further options for what is shown in the Expanded Cells.
O.K. where is my copy - I ordered over a month ago from this Web site - still no book.
And while I am on it - why do you use this light grey font for your message, etc? It is very hard to read for we old guys.
Rumor has it that it will take another two weeks before you ship - I will never order from this site again - nothing - nadder. Get the act together.
on’t you realize we are an immediate gradification society - we wnatr it like yesterday.
Scott,
I got my copy at photoshop world and you never cease to impress me. I have to admit, since I know lightroom 1 pretty much in and out, I thought there would be a lot of repeat info for me, but I started from the beginning anyway, and there is so much new info im picking up already. Great job! You’re a pleasure to learn from!
Scott
I went to your presentation at Photoshop World and you said you would put up a tip on your blog. I tried the address and it didn’t work. Can you send me the address.
BTW - As you asked I didn’t post the address.
To those impatient complainers;
These folks are so busy with so many pursuits, give them a break! I am disappointed with the range and number of complaints - from PSW, seminars, podcasts, videos, magazines, blogs - this crew is busy, not just sitting around. But the book issue, well here’s how I feel;
Amazon is an enormous warehouse setup for massive inventory stock on hand, thus allowing huge orders from publishers, likely allowing smaller per unit cost. Purchase to shipping is a largely automated process with a massive global distribution network again allowing for very low costs and quick shipping. Despite the acres of automation and warehouse space, Amazon also has hundreds of employees seeing to orders and shipping. All of this done with comparatively very low overhead when measuring against a much smaller “store†like NAPP / Kelby Training. Cost, those of you who are NAPP members but chose to complain, shame on you! The deals, discounts and offers made available through NAPP are outstanding. The free shipping from B&H alone has paid for my membership several times over. Look at the discount page! I received my download copy of Lr 2.0 for $85.00 (as opposed to $100) and have been using it for weeks thanks to NAPP discounts. One tiny example. There’s your $10.00 back and more.
To those who are not NAPP members, well, first you don’t know what you’re missing – an incredible pool of talent dedicated to creativity and sharing their wisdom – but look at what NAPP gives you for free regardless, the tips and tutorials on Photoshop User TV alone are as helpful as they are inspirational. NAPP is like a family, these folks are genuine and truly care about what they’re doing and helping others. To complain about your order cost or shipping time – people! To again look at Amazon, there’s no way a smaller outfit, book seller or store can compete – liken the experience to a small local store compared to a massive chain store. Keep shopping the “W-marts†of the world and yeah, you may save a few bucks – but I for one like having choices, options and even a “Mom ‘n Pop†style store (so to speak) and don’t want to lose them to huge outlets. Would you be happier if Kelby Training simply ceased to sell materials because it’s cheaper elsewhere? Not me! I’ll spend a little extra and support an outfit that works tirelessly to provide so much to “us.â€
It’s not just about dollars and cents or shipping time, this is a small, unique group of people dedicated to what they do – amazingly generous in so many way and giving of themselves (if you don’t know that, you must be new to this blog) – extremely hardworking and just plain fun! Give them a break, no need to complain so boisterously, if you’re displeased with the cost or shipping time, then fine, exercise your options with just a splash more of compassion, or silence. Me? I’m glad I ordered my Lr 2.0 book here, it will arrive when it arrives and in my tiny little way, I know I supported an organization of great people that Rock! …Not a warehouse full of conveyor belts and binding machines.
There, for what it’s worth, I’ve said my piece.
Kind regards,
Doug
I couldn’t agree more with you Doug - well spoken.
I’m still awaiting my copy of the book too but I tend to look a little further than price & the “I WANT it yestereday” attitude.
Well done to the NAPP & Kelby Training teams and keep up the good work.
Simon
Well said Doug….
That’s one thing I like about this blog, in addition to the assorted PS info we get from Kelby & crew, it’s a very unique & pretty darn friendly community.
Pleasing everyone with price & shipping dates is challenging I’m sure. Personally I think Kelby & crew’s amazing - how they do such a combo of things; seminars, training, shows, books, PS TV + websites & blogs.
And they’ve helped spark such an interest in digital photography, photoshop, lightroom & other adobe programs. Delays in shipping happen and seem pretty minor in the grand scheme of things for this specialty organization.
I must take issue with Doug. I see it as here is a company that asked for pre-orders for the book, both as a service and as making some revenue. While the guys will also point out frequently that you can buy at Amazon etc., some of us thought it would be nice to purchase from NAPP/Scott. Note that the book was available for the Vegas show, and we were told it was available for shipping in the blog earlier. Here is where service comes into play. If you ordered the book on faith and loyalty 3 months ago but still get the 9/21 release date “info”, it questions the service aspects (regardless of how small the company is) since the author and President share a body and should have some pull with the publisher. So the bottom line is that we are eager for the information and that need drove us to purchase the book and to express it here. By the way, I’m sure Amazon has its problems similar to Mr. H. Potter where there is a long list of orders to be filled and prioritizing who gets shipped to first (in stock and shipped could be 10 days different).
VERY Excited. Been playing with LR 2.0 as a beta, can’t wait to get some expert advice on the new tools. Ordered the Charity version, hope it helps them Scott!
i was at photoshopworld and would like to get info on ….fonts and how should i pay for them
I’ll buy three copies of your book if you can tell me how to fix the common problem, “An error has occured when attempting to change modules,” without wiping my hard drive. To date I have tried about everything possible to make this program run and no dice. Adobe’s support is awful on this issue.
I agree with William Chinn. Yeah we’re all in a hurry and want a great price, but I’m still mostly surprised that any place would have it before the actual authors website. Maybe things are beyond Scott’s control, but I think it’s justifiably frustrating to see it appear all these other places when we’re (as shown by our pre-ordering) happy to buy direct from the author. I think everyone here is a real fan of Scott’s, it’s just that a little, tiny, eeny weeny explanation (even if it’s just - Peachpit owes Amazon first - anything) would sooth some surprised people. As it is I already think Scott is superhuman and couldn’t possibly sleep more than 3 or 4 hours a day to do all he does, so in actuality I’m betting this is bumming him out more than us.
Well, i think i have to wait for a while. The book haven’t come out in swedish yet. Maybe im gonna buy the english version anyway.
Have a good day! im home from work. ill
Scott,
If you have time to read this it is worth a laugh. How dumb am I about Football? I saw the hearer and thought, ” Scott has been out shooting some pictures of the Native American tribe in Florida”.

Cancelled my order and NAPP membership. I expected to support both by placing my order here and maybe even receive the book early. But when Amazon is cheaper - after the NAPP “discount” AND in stock….. sorry Scott.
I appreciate your comments Doug E. about supporting the “little guy”, but I think William Chin’s comments are more in line with my view. It is a service that is being offered here. I think waiting 3-4 weeks is pretty patient.
All of Scott’s books have been jammed packed with information that doesn’t go stale. For me, it’s worth the wait. Yeah, Amazon gets it faster, but I guess I’m just loyal to the man and the organization that writes them.
Scott, thanks for writing the most easy to read books that are filled with the most useful information.
I’m looking forward to reading yet another great book to aid in my workflow.
-Matthew
I pre-ordered the book more than two months ago from Amazon and as of this morning (Monday) it still hasn’t shipped despite being “in stock” last week.
I agree with Doug on all points, considering that NAPP provides lots of resources for those of us that are not members (Photoshop User TV, Photoshop Killer Tips, LightRoom Killer Tips, to name a few). I am a transportation planner (photography is my hobby), and I quite honestly wish that the professional organizations that I am a member of did as much work as Scott and the rest at NAPP do for the industry and for their members.
…I guess I’m not in that much of a hurry, since I could probably get it at the local Barnes & Noble or Borders before Amazon could get it here. I guess I just can’t see any situation where getting the book is so critical. I can understand the importance, but not the urgency. I just don’t see how I could come to canceling a NAPP membership over what is really a few very minor issues (2 weeks and $10).
I also bought one of the copies that support the orphanage in Kenya, and those are signed copies… I feel sorry for Scott’s hand. He’s going to have one massive case of writer’s cramp!
On the 9/15 telllarry from the Napp home page, he has seen copies of the LR2 book in the shipping department. Yes, it is confusing……..
Andrew: I agree it is a minor issue… but silence is deafening and making it a larger one. The issue for me is how you do business. I appreciate everything that Scott and his team do and continue to do. I had been recently trying to decide whether to keep my membership in NAPP since I am using Capture NX2 to post process more frequently. I have both of Scott’s Digital Photography Books and the CS3 Seven Steps and find them very useful. And I did order the Lightroom book from Amazon.
If I hadn’t been traveling and had seen the Kenya post in time, I would have gladly purchased - and waited - for that copy. I think a lot of this blog readers admire and respect acts like that and the photowalk.
Bottom line, this is bad service and leaves a question in some people’s mind about motive. Two things that, for me, make me decide not to “reward” the practice. I’ll continue to purchase products as they fit my needs, but most likely at retail.
and….
although the NAPP home page still shows “pre-order”, KelbyTraining.com no longer does.
2day the Kelby LR2 book is a gold box special at Amazon. Price=$25.64
Please sent me an email that you shipped it to make me feel good.
Scott,
I agree with Doug - what you and your organization do on a daily basis has forever changed this industry. We create and do business differently based on your recommendations. I hope we are all doing better with your input.
Now, I do understand that the recent PsW/LV is a HUGE undertaking which I get to appreciate every time you come to Boston (thanks for coming in Spring 2009!) However, (you knew there was one coming) could you give us a hint as to the ship date of your book from the NAPP coffers? I ordered a signed copy and know that may take a little longer - willing to wait in Boston - don’t get writer’s cramp!
What I really hope is that by writing this, it will be in my mailbox today!
Bought the first one and will definitely be buying the second.
