Some Background Info On My New Lightroom 2 Book
Here’s a quick video clip I did for you guys with some background info on my new “Lightroom 2 Book for Digital Photographers.” On the video (it’s around around 2-1/2 minutes long), I talk about how I developed the book; the differences between this new version of the book, and the original version I wrote for Lightroom 1.0, and some of the new things I added to make the book more valuable to the reader. (However, I forgot to mention on the video another cool thing I added to the book—although I put Lightroom 2 tips throughout the book, at the end of each chapter I now added a special “Killer Tips” page with some very slick little tricks, timesavers, workarounds and shortcuts).
Anyway, I hope you’ll take two minutes and watch the video.
NOTE: Good news; we just got our shipment of Lightroom 2 books in at Kelby Training (finally!), and they started shipping those books out Tuesday and Wednesday, so they’re on their way.

I’m excited to get to know LR2, as I don’t have LR1 yet. I hope the book can help us new-comers to get to know this program. There was a LR2 book at Barnes & Noble and I told my friend, “Wait for the Kelby one to come out, it’ll be easier to use”. Cheers mate!
I’m looking forward to getting my copy.
It’s gotten to the point where I don’t even try to learn a new version of Photoshop or Lightroom without your latest book by my side. I save so much time and learn so many buried treasures by reading your guides.
I recommend a lot of stuff to the listeners of my podcast, The Digital Photography Show, but your books are always at the top of the list.
Scott
Okay…
you really got me laughing here… (but probably just me!-)
judging on the title of your post (The Background On My New Lightroom 2 Book) and seeing a youtube-window, I just thought “allright! Scott is going to explain how he did the picture/background on his new book… ” (some kinda tutorial)
And as the video progressed I realised what a clumsy conclusionist I really am! Of course this is a promo-video for the book!
It just shows how good you Americans are at selling things!-) Luckely in this case it’s for a book (and a very good one I may ad).
thanks for the laugh!
keep on postin’
To Matt:
Thanks for your support, man.
As for the level of the book; I start at square one, and do everything step-by-step, so you’ll have no trouble if you’ve never used Lightroom before.
To Scott:
Many thanks for your support, and for recommending my books to your listeners. You rock!

Greetings Scott!
I just finished reading your “Lightroom 2 Book for Digital Photographers.†It arrived on my doorstep on Tuesday. Well done!
Now that I’ve zoomed through it, there are a few places I’ll go back to and cover more thoroughly for sure. It sits on my close-at-hand-reference book shelf in the office after the initial breaking in period all my books go through over the garden tub
I’m still wishing for a better, more flexible way to watermark though. PS actions just don’t cut it well enough and I can’t manage the flexibility I want in LR2 yet.
Scott,
I never have been so excited to get a book before. My wife thinks I am nuts rushing home from work each day to see if it there yet. Can’t wait till the new Lightroom Live tour comes to town. As always the blog rocks!
Frank
Still waiting on the patch for LR2; Terry White acknowledged something is in the works and he should know even if many others are not willing to acknowledge the problem. Your book maybe useful, but only if the software works like it is supposed to.

Hi Scott
i won the photowalk in Windsor UK and im waiting or my prize…the book of course! any idea when?!?
Hey, gots my book yesterday.
Then why am I on the computer when I should be reading the book!!!!!!!!
I got the book yesterday and plan to read it on the flight to Seattle tomorrow for DLWS in San Juan Island.
Plans aside, I just had to read the first chapter anyway.
Allow me to make a comment on my very slightly different workflow. I start the custom numbering at 100, not 1. That’s so that the files alphabetize properly, rather than showing up as name-1, then 10,11, etc to 19, then 2, then 20, etc.
Since I geotag using a separate application, that’s important to me.
Steve
PS When’s your CS4 book coming out?
Scott,
I’ll be getting my hands on the book very soon. I’m extremely interested in the workflow section you mentioned in the video.
I sure you will dread a question like this right after a book comes out but, will there be an addendum to this book the relates to possible CS4 workflow?
Scott,
When will you make the next edition of your Photoshop Down & Dirty Tricks book, it’s been missing in a action for a few versions. Everyone wants to see a new version of the book for CS4.
Hi Scott,
I just received my copy of your new Lightroom 2 book from Amazon yesterday. The graphics look great. I have to go to work now, so I’ll need to wait for the weekend to check it out.
It does seem like a lot of the features are starting to blend together with Photoshop, so it will be interesting to check out the chapter on your workflow.
Keep up the great work,
Robert

Same here Scott, I’m a fan of your books & always recommend them to my PS students - so you should notice a sudden drop in your stack by at least one book (or more) - for each of my classes.
It’s another fun part about teaching when you can inspire your students to purchase books, software and cameras.
In addition, your publisher is top notch as well.
I with everyone else. Just so dang excited for my book to come. The video just made me want it more! Thanks for taking the time to give us a brand new book and not just an update. Your books are the best!
This book is just plain awesome. Scott writes his books in a way to where it just makes sense—no extra bullshit you don’t care about, just the stuff that matters. I’m really getting into Lightroom after lots of hesitation—now if they would just make it faster on my dual G5, man is it a pig, that’s what I get for having a 4 year old computer I guess.
If anyone is looking for ideas of things to photograph, check out fotocommunity.com, a german site available in many different languages, but full of super amatuer foto ideas to get the juices flowing again.
Hi Scott,
You have already sold me on the book - I have it on order with Amazon.co.uk. Knowing that supplies are getting around the US now is just adding to my frustration. The anticipated delivery over here is 4-10th November !!!!!
I am sure that it will be brilliant. I really enjoy Photoshop User TV.
Cheers
Steve
Hi Scott; I’ve already received my copy of Lightroom 2, and am finding it very useful but I wish you talked about creating a web page with a PayPal shopping cart system. Any chance of a blog on that?
thanks, ron
Since I’ve been a bit critical in previous posts about the shipping / delivery of the LR2 book, here is a status update. My June 18 order placed with Kelby Training is still active, but not delivered as of 9/24 (an email query has been sent as to its status). Another book order was placed with Amazon on 9/15 and delivered on 9/24 to Los Angeles (using free and slow USPS shipping). My hunger and drooling have been satisfied, but now I will wait to see just how slow is slow.
The answer to the above mentioned email query was the book shipped USPS on 9/23, no tracking available.
Recv’d the book late today. It was sent Priority Mail. Thanks to all involved.
Great news, for me anyway. Amazon.co.uk have advised that the book has been posted and should be with me soon. Oh yes!
Aloha Scott,
thanks for coming out with this new book, looking forward to checking it out. just ordered from kelbytraining.com. i got it cheaper than the local book store which didn’t get it in yet and i saved because i am a napp member. you guys are awesome! thanks and looking forward to learning how to use the new lightroom2.

Hey Scott, hoping you can give me some advice here with regards to your books. I picked up v1 of your LR book recently to help me learn more about the program…but then I upgraded to Lightroom 2! So now I’m running Lightrom 2 and I’ve got v1 of your book. Will the two coincide? Or should I just ditch v1 of your book and pick up v2?
I’m planning on picking up v2 of your book, but didn’t know if I would miss anything by skipping over the first one entirely.
Appreciate all the work you do for us!

Hi Scott
My christmas present has just arrived in the UK - your new Lightroom 2 Book
Awesome stuff as usual.
I really enjoyed Chapter 7 Exporting Images - which is a good thing as parts of it appear twice and then misses out on about 20 pages which I am sure was really good stuff
Oh well back to amazon and wait for a more complete copy!
