Adobe Posts Lightroom 2.1 Update on Adobe Labs

By Scott on Friday, September 19th, 2008 at 10:59 pm | Lightroom.

This rare Friday-night post is to let you all know that Adobe has just posted Lighroom 2.1 “Release Candidate” on Adobe Labs today; a free update to Lightroom that addresses a number of bugs and performance issues some users were experiencing. The “Release Candidate” moniker is explained by Adobe:

“The ‘release candidate’ label indicates that this update is well tested but would benefit from additional community testing before it is distributed automatically to all of our customers. The Lightroom team would like the community to help verify the quality of this update through normal usage as this will ensure that the application is tested on a diversity of hardware and software configurations not available internally at Adobe.

I think it’s very cool that Adobe thought to release it this way first, and get the benefit of additional outside testing before releasing the final version. You can download the 2.1 update right here.

I had tons of issues. It was driving me a bit crazy. Just downloaded 2.1, and thing already seem slightly snappier, though time will tell. Gonna go post it on PPS…

    Hi Scott

This is off topic but I have a question for you.

I am looking to purchase your Lastolite kit which uses hotshoe flashes. I was hoping to watch the video to see how it all works. There is no play link on your Lastolite kit page available. I also went to B&H and it is no longer there either.

Is the video anywhere for me to view?

    Thanks and kind regards,
    Joe

    Scott:

Can you tell me prior to my buying Lightroom what are the minimum gigabites needed to have on one’s computer to download this software.

My friend was unable to download Lightroom since his Mac G4 power tower had only 640 mhz of ram, and a hard drive of 20 gigbites. What is the minimum of space needed to install lightroom?

    Thank you.

    Thanks Scott!
2.1 solved my problem of going to Photoshop from Lightroom.
I previously had to create a custom external editor preset to get it to work. If I canceled editing a file in Photoshop, I would still have a file in Lightroom, since it was automatically created before entering Photoshop. Now, if I cancel editing in Photoshop, no file is created.

The updates keep coming fast and furious, which I guess is golden job security for the professionals at NAPP.

By the way, I’ve noticed that Matt’s been getting a little uppity on your PSTV podcasts. Seems to me like it’s time for a little smack down. A little putting in place. A little woodshed session. A little boot to the butt. A little poke in the eye. If he can’t take it, well, Corey wouldn’t be a replacement, he’d be an upgrade.

Thanks for letting us all know. I’ve been looking forward to this update since moving to 2.0. Looks like they’ve addressed pretty much all the issues I’ve been having. Way to go Adobe!

    Re: LR 2.1 release…

Didn’t notice but a slight improvement in the local adjustments (brush), but as they indicated, that still in is in the works for LR 2.2. Just would like for them to get the most significant improvement over LR 1 to work well (i.e. the adjustment brush).

    Still waiting….

This update has fixed all of my LR2 problems. I can actually import a shoot in a reasonable amount of time now, and flipping through the modules is quick and painless. The local adjustments are also now useable! Good job Adobe!

Can someone out there tell me what to do with the update once I have downloaded. How do I incorporate it in Lightroom 2?

I’ve just installed Lightroom 2.1 (Mac Power PC G5 OS10.5), but it is not showing up as that. The about LR still displays version 2. I tried it a second time but the same thing. The destination is the appropriate hard drive site.
    What’s up with that?

    Thanks
