“The Digital Photography Show” is Back With a New Name, New Home, and I’m a Guest On Their First Show

BIG NEWS: My favorite photography podcast, formerly known as “The Digital Photography Show” (hosted by Scott Sherman and Michael Stein) has found a new home, and a new name—it’s now called “Digital Photography Life: Make Every Shot Count” and I am totally honored that they asked me to be the first guest on their new show (which you can hear by clicking here).
The interview is pretty in-depth, and we talk about everything (and I mean everything), including a lot about Lightroom 2, so give it a listen when you get some time—I think you’ll totally dig it.
Congratulations to Scott and Michael on re-launching the show (it’s a long story, but I’m SO glad they’re back), and I wish you guys continued success!!!

Hi Scott,
Good interview (as always!) I’m quite interested in Lightroom, so it was quite timely too.
Regards,
Rob…
Was a great interview, the best bit was when your daughter came into the room -so sweet.
Hope you are feeling better Scott, you sounded pretty bunged up.
Take care

Scotty…how goes it? Hey, set me straight here. The erratic, often slow behavior of the adjustment brush in LR2(And I know Matt is tired of hearing complaints about that!) leads me thinking that my selective editing is “better” accomplished in CS4…with higher quality. Basically makes me think it is “done right” in CS4 versus “imitated” in LR2. Is it possible/accurate that both programs are using the exact same technology/algorithms(whatever they are) and LR2 is just easier than creating layers etc. in CS4.
Am I crazy? Is there a quality difference in the 2 programs performance/results on this key task?
This is my favorite photography podcast too, Scott. I love when you are on the show. In light of your international success, it is hard to believe how down to earth, nice and fun you are. Thanks for being on the show!
p.s. I am an Aperture fan-girl but I still enjoyed listening to you talk about Lightroom.
Scott, another great listen. I have read a few of your books and listen to your talks and videos and you’re always great. I have enjoyed their show for about 6 months and am still going back to their older ones. I look forward to hearing you the show again.
Glad that the boys are back! Great interview…
Cheers,
Laurel
Scott – here is a question for you. I have your books on Lightroom 2 and Photoshop Elements. I have just started going thru them. My plan is to use Elements to edit anything that lightroom2 can’t do. Do you have any tips on use the two software packages together?
I have not finished the books so if you talk about it in one of them I am sorry for bothering you.
Thanks
Hey Scott, Great news on being the first guest on a great show that has finally come back. Great interview as well. I was wondering, even though I’m sure you might already be aware. But have you seen the new For Seasons all-weather parka system from Gitzo? If you have I was wondering what your take on it might be? For someone like myself who spends a lot of time outdoors photographung for various horse farms in Lexington, KY, the winters here can be pretty brisk at times. I was thinking of investing in this parka system, but just thought I’d ask your thoughts on what looks like a phenomenal gear Jacket. Hi Scott:
Great Interview..I enjoy this podcast. I realize now that you must not of been feeling too well when you taught the Lightroom 2 seminar in Orlando..but you did a good job masking it. Hope you are feeling better now..Claire
Get better Scott! It’s not you it’s something about Texas when I left there around this time last year I was sick as well; I tell you Texas is to big!
First to the other Scott, Mr. Sherman you were asking Scott K. if people should only use Lightroom instead of Photoshop? I say no no no to that! If you can afford it get both. I love Lightroom it is amazing!! But like Scott K. said when you find those 6 images you might want to jump to Photoshop and finish it making it amazing for you clients mouth to drop and your to feel good as an artist. So like I said if you can afford it get both if you are serious and if you can’t my advice is to save until you could it will be worth it! I am sure you have both but by you I mean people who are starting out like me who is between starting out and being as famous as Scott K.
I should be around age 400 when that happens

Great interview Scott. As others have said, your humility is wonderful! It must be a weird feeling to be considered such a wonderful teacher by people you have never even met (myself included). I appreciate all you have done for the photographic community. I’m excited to subscribe to their V2.0 show!

Awesome interview & great kick-off for the show.
Excellent insights and info about LR2 Scott. Hope you are feeling better by now.
Enjoyed your recent interview on Scott S and Michael S’s new show.
I recently bought LR2 and your book on LR2 and I’m determined to take a step by step approach to learning how LR2 works. Your book is great and easy to follow.
I had previously given up on LR1 as it was way too limiting (for the reasons that you mentioned in the interview). LR2 is certainly a vast improvement.
However, I am struggling with the (surprising) slowness of LR2.
I am running Windows XP on a pretty fast machine with 2GB of RAM. As a photo enthusiast, I have tended to use Photoshop Elements for some time and I now have PE7. I have no trouble working with some very large files in PE7 (multiple layers etc) and I don’t experience any of the lagginess or slowness with PE7 that I have found so far with LR2. Am I doing something wrong with LR2 or this just how LR2 is?
BTW, I was interested in your comment about the option of using an LR2 & PE7 combo rather than going to the full version of Photoshop for pixel editing. I find PE7 a very powerful program especially when used with plugins such as those made by Nik and onOne, so I often wonder just how much extra benefit I’d get if I had CS4 instead (and I have certainly thought about giving a CS4 a go).
Most people seem to be aiming to spend more of their post-processing time in applications like LR2 and Aperture and less time in pixel editors and that is certainly where I’d like to be heading while also reducing the overall time spent on post-processing. So what extra benefit would a photo enthusiast like me really get out of having CS4 as opposed to PE7 as the pixel editing tool to work with LR2?
Is there a table of CS4 v PE7 feature comparisions somewhere that I could look at as I do have an open mind about stepping up to CS4 although at the moment, for me, I can’t see that I’d get much benefit.
Sorry about the length of this “comment”. Keep up the great work.
Great interview and great show as usual. It is great to have Michael and Scott (and you too Scott) back podcasting. It is still my favorite photography podcast.

Hi Scott,
Just listened to episode #1. You sounded pretty sick but as usual, it turned out to be a another excellent interview. Congrats to Scott S & Michael on the new show. It’s great to see you back!
I was just thinking though …
Scott, I wonder if Cameron from TPN appreciates the title of your blog entry. The “Digital Photography Show” isn’t actually back; it’s in Hiatus while they find new hosts.
Not that I really care; from what I have heard, Scott & Michael were treated pretty bad so it’s best that they moved to another host.
cheers,
Stewart
Scott, Scott Sherman said he was going to ask this next time, but I can’t wait. Do you convert RAW to DNG when you import? If so, what settings do you use
