That’s right folks, it’s time for this year’s ultimate holiday guide to the nothing but the coolest photography and Photoshop gear for the photo freak on your holiday list.
The online version of my Gonzo Holiday Gear Guide is now available over at LayersMagazine.com. Happy Shopping!

Hey Scott,
The NewerTech Guardian MAXimus hasn’t replaced your Drobo has it? I just purchased a new firewire Drobo on your recommendation.
Thanks for this list, some great stuff.
Crash
Hi, I am curious as to why the Drobo is absent from your list.
To Crash and Glenn:
The Drobo was on last year’s list, and I try not to pick the same products year after year. I still use my Drobo (actually, two of them) to back up my entire photo library. I use the Guardian to back up my home computer (including all the apps, other stuff, documents, etc. that doesn’t belong with my photos). I know—I’m a backup freak.
Hope that helps.
-Scott
Thanks Scott! Glad to know the Drobo is still on your desk.
The Epson P-6000 Multimedia Photo Viewer looks great…. I have a Drobo too and it works like a charm.
I wonder if my wife will notice and get the hint if I leave copies of that list scattered across the house.

Very nice list…for a very nice chunk of change for most items. I don’t think I could even get people to buy any of this for me…a down-payment maybe.
The items on the list are amazing, and I would definitely like to start using many of them…but here in NE Arkansas, we just don’t have that kind of money to spend.
Oh well…I’m saving for a new MacBook Pro. I’m currently working on a 1st gen 17″ iMac G5 (4 years old). I think it’s time for an upgrade.
Very nice list. I’m surprised how many of the items here I already bought this year (D700, 24-70, Nik SilverEFX) and yet how many more are on my own list. While it’s nice to see someone else recommend the same purchases (is that my validation?), the part I really like is learning about products that my own radar didn’t catch.
That Westcott 50″ softbox looks like an outstanding addition to pick up.
Scott,
Excellent list! I am drooling and my wife is hiding all methods of ordering these items. My bookshelf is not too happy with all the new announced weight coming its way today.
When are more Lightroom Tour dates going to be posted?
Frank
if you dont want the Canon 50D, i know someone who will give it a good home
good list btw
I’m getting ready to order the Canon 50D for myself. I’ve always believed that if you couldn’t get someone to buy you what you want for Christmas, do it yourself.
When I look at the 2007 list, the first page is fine but then it reverts to this year’s list. ??
Hi Scott I was reading your list and was wondering is the bamboo tablet as good as the intuos 3 tablet I just bought an intuos and I love it but I debated wondering if I should have bought the bamboo instead?
What’s your take ont he matter?
Hi Scott! I would love your input on monitors. I have set up dual monitors and have come to the realization how different the colors/brightness/contrast are on each. Who makes the best monitors (and most affordable) or is main key not the manufacturer but to calibrate the monitors?
ok, this is horrible. i came into work on sat to get a few things done and two hours and $100 later i haven’t done anything.
but very cool. i did order the presentation zen book as well as the strap! thanks scott for everything you do for other photogs. you have sincerely changed the course of my photography.
So you have a Drobo at work, a Drobo at home for pics, and a Guardian for your non-photo work at home? That’s a lot of back-ups! Do you automate your backups via scripts or is this just something you do on a scheduled basis (like once a week or something like that)?
BTW, the Guardian 1T dual drive is $60 off with rebate until 11/30.
Hi Scott – is it true that Adobe will not be releasing an update the ACR for the new Canon 5D II and thus forcing people to upgrade to CS4? I really hope its not true, but I would like to find out if it is.
Kevin
The Flash section has a typo you are mentioning a Nikon 900, but the text says 800. Just thought you’ll want to know.
With respect to MPIX’s framed prints… beware.
I ordered a 12X12 framed print. It came fast, looked beautiful and was perfectly assembled. It also had a scratch on the glass. I e-mailed them. No problem. They replaced it, no charge. MPIX rocks!
Got the new one. Perfect. Took it to the gallery I show my stuff at. Lots of compliments. Looks beautiful.
But… my print is now warping/bubbling within the frame and mat. I can appreciate that this might happen after a long time, but it has been less than 2 months! It’s hanging in a gallery right now, and the reflection on the print makes this warping very obvious.
To be clear… this is not Scott’s fault, and MPIX is really great to deal with…. just wanted to give my 2 cents.
Note: this could all have been avoided if MPIX offered framing WITH mounting. Then the print would stay flat within the frame.
