Catch My Holiday Gear Guide LIVE on Photoshop User TV

This week on Photoshop User TV, we did our annual “Holiday Gear Guide Live!” where we share some of our picks for holiday gifts, including a bunch of cool gear that isn’t in the printed or online versions of my gear guide.
You can watch it here online, or in Apple’s iTunes (where you can subscribe to it, and get each episode, free at this link).
NOTE: On a completely unrelated note: Brad totally rocked his Guest Blog Spot yesterday. I knew Brad was a great assistant, and skilled photographer, but honestly, I had no idea he was such a great writer. I’m both impressed and a bit scared (I don’t know whether to find him a photo agent, get him shooting some stock, or find him a book deal). Way to go, Boy Wonder!!!

None of the above Scott. My suggestion would be to lock him in a broom cupboard and throw away the key – Brad puts Calamity Jane to shame.
That said, it would be nice to see him post again sometime in the future which isn’t to say that he should go out ‘looking’ for disasters to write about as I feel sure enough will come to him.
Great choice of guest blogger Scott and made for a nice change from the usual chatter that we togs engage in from Sunrise to Sundown.
I have found that people who deny making mistakes are the ones that make more of them (even the same ones over and over). It was pretty sage-like advice that Joe gave Brad… something we should all try and follow.
I ordered the Gitzo tripod… and a Ferrari to haul it around in!
Hey Scott,
I watched PSTV yesterday. I was in stitches the whole time. Did you say you would buy everyone who watches it a REALLY nice tripod in a leather case?
Excellent show,
Mike
Hi Scott,
I have been reading/using your books since you started writing them and own most of them and refer back to them quite often. I’ve bought items based on your recommendations, (the really right stuff ball head, and that thing, along with the gitzo traveller tripod is amazing), traveled with your recommended lenses, although I don’t agree with your 18-200 nikon lens as your travel lens. (it’s not my first choice), I like the 24-70 and a 50mm 1.4 for travel.
I’ve been reading your blog since the beginning and I read it every day. I love your energy and excitement everyday and can’t imagine what it’s like to be you. I wouldn’t imagine that you’d ever have to watch what you eat, you must burn calories just by living life at your pace.
But lately, every time I go on your blog, and I know I don’t have to read it if I don’t want to, but it seems like it’s lately (except for the guest blogs) always about buying things. Books and software and equipment, buying, buying and more suggestions for buying.
The economy is a mess and probably many of the readers here can’t go out and spend as much $ as they used to.
So, I’m wondering if you could maybe give suggestions about how to use what we have, and take a break from selling for a little while. Or, more inspirational suggestions. I love those entries and links to other photographers work and the guest blogs or more discounts!
I think you are the best and I love this blog and everything you offer, just would like fun suggestions working with what I own, which is all the best stuff, d700 and great lenses. I haven’t decided if upgrading to cs4 is necessary for me and feeling pressure to do it here, but I don’t know if I need it.
I know I can just sit back and enjoy the blog for a while, but I think I am feeling just a bit sensitive to how difficult it must be for many photographers during this unprecedented financial time.
Hi Janet,
i think you are right.
I like Scott and the Gang on the show and i love reading the blog.
I also bought the RRS-Ballhead, the Hoodman Loupe and other Stuff.
But sometimes, when i read the blog, i feel like i’m watching “amazing discoveries”.
I want to thank you for all the great and timely information you include in your blog. I feel your site is one I can depend on to keep up with this fast paced constantly evolving industry. We as individuals have the power to make the right decisions for ourselves whether to buy or not to buy based upon our needs. So, please keep the information flowing – I want to be informed
Love it!
Hey Scott, have you seen this site:
http://www.redefine-christmas.org/
it’s all about making donations to charities on your choice in other people’s names….I thought it was a great idea when i first heard about it.
I wanted to pass it along as you have mentioned a couple times in the past about donating to charities and organizations that mean a lot to you.
Totally unrelated comment:
Isn’t your band named “Big Electric Cat”? I’ve just found out there’s a goth band from Sydney also called that:

Hey why are you using OCW drives now? – those LaCie rugged ones I find to be a lot better and take a lot more knocks and made my to electronics for Christmas list – why did you stop using them?

Otherwise great collection as usual and love that tripod!
Cheers

Hey Scott,
I know you’d love to put the D3X issue to bed forever but you must check out this video on youtube. You’ll laugh til you cry!!

Gosh I LOVE watching this! You guys don’t only crack me up, you help me SO much!
I was just wondering, when your book elements 7 will be out?
For shooting sporting events, the best ball head on the planet pales compared to a gimbal mount. I got one for shooting tennis tournaments and equestrian events, and it made an incredible difference in panning ease. The big one goes directly on a tripod (http://www.tripodhead.com/products/wimberley-main.cfm). The smaller one attaches to a head’s quick release mount (http://www.tripodhead.com/products/sidekick-main.cfm).
Definately will not go to Vilamoura anymore, 6 Hour rounds of Golf and 4.5 Euros for a beer , we will stay clear of the Vilamoura golf courses this year, and the so called free shuttle bus turns up if you are lucky.
