Adobe Releases Free Lightroom 2.2 Update

Adobe released a free downloadable update to Lightroom 2 (bringing it to version 2.2), that adds support for some recently released cameras (including the Canon 5D Mark II, , a number of Panasonic cameras, and the Canon G10), along with some bug fixes (for a list of the bug fixes, visit Lightroom Product Manager Tom Hogarty’s blog by clicking here).
Also, (and this is big), this update includes the final versions of the Camera Profiles which will now be available in the Calibration panel (those of you who attended my Lightroom 2 Live Tour know about the Beta versions of these).
To get the free update, go under Lightroom’ 2’s Help menu and choose “Check for Updates.”

Although I’m an Aperture user, this is one thing that I envy. Adobe manages to provide timely updates for the release of a new camera. Apple updates seem to take significantly longer to appear.
Hey Scott!
Can you say something about the advantages and disadvantages of the cmaera profiles here on your blog?
It would’ll be great!
Seems to have fixed “some” of my performance issues, so I’m a happy Lightroom user today!…Now just fix everything else Adobe!
Does anyone know how to remove the beta camera profiles from Lightroom? Now that the final profiles are included in the update, I would like to clean up the camera calibration profile choices a bit.
TIA
Just a quick note to say how much I appreciate your blog. I opened up LR a few minutes ago and the new Update Message appeared…I knew I would have all the details of the update within seconds if I went to your blog..and low and behold…it was your newest entry…thanks Scott for helping us keep our heads on straight! Have a wonderful Holiday!
I downloaded and installed LR2.2 and now my modules are gone
I get the message : An error occurred when attempting to change modules.
I wrote Adobe a note, but I thought maybe one of the pros that come to this blog know what happened?
Thanks
Ana
I, along with many others, have run across the same problem. Adobe really needs to address this issue or start refunding our money.
Installation seems to leave the beta profiles behind which clutters up the Camera Calibration dialogue. Just remove the relevant beta folders under the CameraRaw folder. On Vista x64 ..
C:\ProgramData\Adobe\CameraRaw
Can someone verify that you can load LR2.2 over a previously expired test / trial version and it runs cleanly. I’m a licensed user but also loaded 2.2 over a trial 2.0 on another computer. Didn’t prompt me for the registration which I have another legit copy (TY, Amazon).
I found the place to remove the Lightroom beta camera profiles on a Mac if anyone is interested.
They are located at
/Library/Application Support/Adobe/CameraRaw/CameraProfiles
This is the Library from your main OS drive, not your home drive. I deleted all of the folders that were named as Beta and now the menu is lean and clean.
Scott, can you comment on which of the new profiles you prefer for the D300? All this is coming out after I have purchased your awesome book and I’d like to hear your opinion. Thx. Jan
I have a question about lightroom web. I have found that the only way to publish pictures is to resend all the photos previously sent in order to put up new ones. This is very frustrating and time comsuming. Any idea how this can be circumvented in order to publish new photos by themselves and in different folders?
The locations to remove the Beta camera profiles are as follows:
Mac: /Library/Application Support/Adobe/CameraRaw/CameraProfiles/
XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe\CameraRaw\CameraProfiles
Vista: C:\Users\All Users\AppData\Local\Adobe\CameraRaw\CameraProfiles ]
Great article except the part where you imply I have to think before I start working on my photos…….. my head hurts
Hi Matt,
Always nice to watch your videos. It’s cool to see you can keep your sense of humor while sharing great real-world advice on the DESTRUCTIVE WORKFLOW!!!! Also, don’t think we didn’t notice the slip about erasing the crackpipes. What kind
of models are you shooting these days?:)
Cheers,
Steven James Scott
Hi Scott
I may be crazy but there was another upgrade in the 2.2 release.
When opening a file from LR into Photoshop in order to save it correctly you had to click save. If you clicked Save As it wouldn’t work right (In your LR 2 book you use the phrase break the chain with LR).
However, it now does appear to work right. I was working on some photos last night and after I had them in Photoshop saved it, then made some more tweaks and clicked saved as to keep it as a seperate file. Did this several times with several photos and everytime I jump back to LR each version is there.
I might be slow and missing something but that seems new to me.
