If you got an iPod, an iPhone, or a Digital Camera as a Holiday Gift, Have I Got a Book for you!
If you got any of these cool Holiday gifts (or if you gave one of these to a friend or family member) and you want a really great way to get the most from them, I hope you’ll consider one of my new books. For example:
If you got one of the new iPods (an iPod touch, nano, or classic), then there’s my book “The iPod Book,” which follows the same layout and theme as my Digital Photography book. It’s the latest edition of the world’s #1 bestselling iPod book (and has been translated into a dozen different languages) and I totally updated it for the new iPods. It includes how to use iTunes, the iTunes music store, and how to do all the stuff you really want to do with your iPod. You can order it now from Amazon.com, or Barnes and Noble.com, or at your local bookstore.
If you got an iPhone, there’s The iPhone Book (which I co-authored with my buddy, and renown iPhone freak, Terry White). It was chosen by Amazon.com’s Editors as their Editor’s Choice for “Best Computer Book of 2007,” and uses the same “just one thing per page” layout and look as my Digital Photography book. I’ve had so many people email me that they had no idea what their iPhone could really do until they got this book. I really think you’ll like it. You can get it now from Amazon.com, or Barnes and Noble.com, or at your local bookstore.
If you got a digital camera, then check out my brand new book “The Digital Photography Book, Volume 2.” This is all new content, and picks up where Volume 1 left off. If you got a flash or you’re thinking of building a studio, you’ll dig the chapters on off camera flash, and building a studio from scratch. There’s also chapters on wedding photography, portrait photography, landscape photography, and much more. You can order it now from Amazon.com, or Barnes and Noble.com, or at your local bookstore.
So, get one (aw what the heck, get all three) and learn lots of cool stuff fast.

I’d like to get the photo book, but it is apparently too hot to take off the presses right now…
Looking forward to the new Digital Potography Book, guessing it’ll be a couple more weeks before anyone can actually buy it?
I saw over on B&N home page a nice little video from Leonard Nimoy and his love for photography (not sure if you saw this), pretty neat….

I also posted this question a few days ago but I think it got lost as it was on one of those what should I do days were you got a thousand responses heheh.
On your new online training course, I am interested in it very much but just after the holidays can’t cough up the yearly subscription price, so i wanted to do a month for now. But my question (again sidetracked) is can you view segments multiple times or is it a view once and you can’t go back? Sometimes i need to watch something a couple times to let it sink in (getting old)
Scott, seriously stop. You have sold me your iPhone book, 7 point system, CS3, Digital Photogs book and others. You are also implicated in my having bought an iPhone, Nikon D3, Scott Kelby location lighting kit, the Spiderlite kit. Enough already. How many of your kids do I have to educate.
(Can’t wait for Digital Photographers part deux).

More self promotion, c’mon Scott!
I got my copy of Digital Photography 2 directly from the publisher, it arrived yesterday!! No need to put up with waiting on Amazon or B&N. Plus you get free shipping! Scott, I loved the 7-point system book, is there going to be an advanced 7-point system book?
I’m still reading the first Digital Photography Book, and I really want to order the second one, but Amazon.ca is still not shipping it! where is the love for us canadian fans?
hopefully it will arrive soon.
Availability: This title has not yet been released. You may order it now and we will ship it to you when it arrives.
I recently started to read your blog, but it’s turning into an infommercial. How about a little more info and a little less selling?
Hi Steve,
I’ll jump in an answer your question. When you’re a subscriber to the online training (whether it’s for a month or year), you can watch anything you want as many times as you want at any time you want. So, yes you can watch a video a few times if you didn’t get something the first time you viewed it.
Hope this helps.
Matt Kloskowski
Eagerly waiting the arrival of DPB #2. The first rocks!! Start working on the third.
@ Jonothan Robinson and Bob
It’s simple to jump over these types of posts from Scott, especially when you either have or are probably going to own all or some of the books from Scott.
For all of the good stuff that’s posted on Scott’s blog, I can stand a little shameless self promotion at times.
Plus… it is HIS blog…. he can (and should) do anything he wants to here. Sure he knows that a lot of users come here (if I knew people were coming to my site, I’d promote myself on occasion too), but the bottom line is it’s for him to decide what to post and what not…
ordered DPB vol 2 from amazon and anxiously waiting for it! it says an estimated ship date of 1/9? btw, the photoshop tv link on the right bar is incorrect… it links to photoshoptv instead of photoshopusertv.com
Hey, Hey, Hey,,,,remember when you got your first camera and installed Photoshop for the first time? It was exciting but overwhelming. Wasin’t it a blessing when you discovered NAPP and Scott Kelby and all this wonderful training? Imagine now ALL of the millions of people who got their first cameras over Christmas….and coming here for the first time. Lets step aside and let these newbies play catch up on the newest offerings. We are so lucky to already know this info…I don’t mind be reminded about it…and sharing this to all those new DLSR users. Welcome to the world of Digital Photography!
Cheers,
Laurel
Frankly I am pretty shocked at Bob and Jonathan’s comments for today’s blog entry. Are you guys for real? First of all, you should be thankful that Scott takes the time to write this blog each and every day and that he provides the general public with as much useful information as he does. Many of you may not be aware that this blog was originally just for Scott’s friends and associates and it was through their urging that he took it public. Another thing you may not realize is the amount of time it takes to operate a daily blog. It is a huge time committment to create unique blog entries every day. Scan around at other photography blogs and what you will realize is that there are not a lot of folks that are bringing original content to you but are recycling info from other sites. I also find it amazing that Scott doesn’t moderate his comment section but leaves it wide open for everyone’s comments (by the way folks, it’s a comment section, not a question section). And finally, and more to the point, if you notice one thing about this blog, it’s that there is not one speck of advertising on it. I would guess that with his site traffic, he could make a hefty profit from advertising alone on this site. So if he chooses to display the fruits of his labors on his site, what’s it to you? End Rant.
Thanks for answering my quesiton Matt, it did help!
I do not see a problem with asking questions in the comment seciton of the blog, apparently Matt didnt either (thanks Matt). Scott has an awesome blog and i read it a couple times a day stupidly thinking more will magically appear. Not sure were Jeff gets off saying some of his comments as well..
Anyways, thanks Scott, Matt and everyone….
Steve,
You are right about calling me out on the question vs comment thing but that wasn’t really aimed at you, and I apologize if I offended you.
Jeff
I have to agree with almost all of Mr. Revell’s comments.
As webmaster for two of my own websites and the only contributor to my own blog, I can attest that providing meaningful content (not just rehashing something from another site) is incredibly time consuming.
While I understand how one might take it as self promotion, is it wrong to be proud of something you’ve created and share it with everyone on your blog? I don’t think so.
And as far as the comments are concerned, Mr. Revell has a good point. Mr. Kelby is busy enough without trying to answer every single question posed on this blog.
We may be making mountains out of molehills here, but I think it’s important to show a little respect and appreciation for all the guidance and education that Mr. Kelby so abundantly provides.
Scott,
Just ordered my copy of your Digital Photography Book Volume 2 and can’t wait for it to arrive!!!
I get the feeling 2008 is gonna be one heck of a year
)
Best wishes to you and yours,
Glyn
I’d love to buy several of your books but I won’t pay the 10, 20, or 30% surcharge applied by your publisher to us Canadians. My dollar is worth more than yours today. Your publisher doesn’t return emails and I cut them off my Christmas Amazon list this year.
Scott:
I would like to see more photoshop tips on Photoshop CS3 advanced for Video (in a book or tutorial or on photoshop tv) I use photoshop in after effects and premiere pro video projects but would like a better understanding of how to use the new CS3 Advanced version of Photoshop for video.
your 7 point book is brilliant and totally addictive! i have a HUGE question though regarding chapter two. how do i get my image from lightroom into cs3 as a smart object? looking all over for an answer and no luck. hopefully you’ll read this soon.
I appreciate your comments Mr Revell, I made the comment because the volume of self promotion is un-needed, I’d hazard a guess that most people reading this blog have most of Scott’s recent books (I have every one; apart from the ipod/iphone manuals, and they’re great books), thus its a bit like preaching to the choir, and probably detrimental to Scott’s cause, people will stop reading the blog if there is not any useful content, the occasional self promotion blog entry is fine, but keep it in check. The blog only seems to have taken this route in the last 3 or 4 months. As you mentioned, Scott does not moderate the comments, so I expect he appreciates feedback; both negative and positive, without getting bent out of shape as you seem to have done.
Scott,
Hope you don’t mind but if I may give a suggestion to Toni Scott (above) re the Smart Object question …
Toni, there’s is currently no way to export an image directly from Lightroom as a Smart Object, however there are a couple of quick workarounds, one of which could be:
1. Create a Virtual Copy of your image in Lightroom.
2. Adjust one of these images (we’ll call it image ‘a’) to how you want the sky to be exposed for example and then send it to Photoshop by pressing CMD / CTRL + E
3. Laving this image open, return to Lightroom and adjust the Virtual Copy (image ‘b’) to how you want, for example, the foreground to be exposed.
4. Send this image to Photoshop using the same CMD/CTRL + E method.
5. You now have both images open in Photoshop. All you need to do now is to drag one, image ‘a’ ontop of image ‘b’ and then add a layer mask to the top layer … job done!
Now, when you paint on the mask to reveal / hide areas, and have the image looking how you want it to, when you Save and Close it, it will send it back into Lightroom all complete. Just remember, when dragging one image ontop of another, hold down the SHIFT key as you do so … that way they will be perfectly aligned ontop of each other.
Hope this helps,
Regards, Glyn
is the digital photography 2 available in the philippines already?
I’ve purchased so many books (literally many) on digital photography and adobe photoshop but NONE has come close to the books of scott!
His books are easy to understand, very clearly illustrated and yes, humorous. Although i only have CS2 on my mac i got Photoshop CS3 for photographers and have been using it for a month already. IT really rocks!
Thanks Scott!
Nick

Scott, I have just received your new “The Digital Photography Book, Volume 2.” here in Scotland. Great to see that The Strobist gets a mention and that he helped you with the off camera flash chapter. Strobist info in a paperback format, grrreat!

I’ve read a couple of chapters of “The Digital Photography Book, Volume 2.” right through and flicked through the rest. This has to be one of the ‘How to’ books out there. A great reference manual; thanks Scott.
Scott,
I just wanted to let you know that I saw your new book, The Digital Photography Book Volume 2, on the shelves at my local B. Dalton Bookseller here in Washington D.C. last night! I also got an email from Amazon saying that my pre-ordered copy was shipped last night. So… it is out there.
Thanks for producing such awesome books!
Scott,
I ordered Your 7 point system and you digital photography book volume 2 on the 4th of Jan. This evening I picked up the two books from the PO Box but when I got home I found that I have recieved volume 1 and not volume 2. Not your problem I know, but hear me out.
Im here in the UK and I believe Amazon.co.uk has your two books digital photography books mixed up. Version 1 (which I now have two copies of) is on sale for £13.99 ($27.98) where as version 2 is selling for just £6.99 ($13.98) – both books have the same 26 customer reviews and I checked my order and it was definitely placed for version 2.
This could just be a one of error but I would certainly get your publishers to check this, something is up on the UK’s Amazon site.
Your loving fan and new 7 point system user, Ed O’Keeffe
