Tuesday News Stuff

Happy Tuesday. Here’s what’s up:
- Had a blast yesterday at the Imaging USA Expo, where I gave a live sneak-peek of my upcoming Professional Portrait Retouching Techniques online class at the Kelby Training Booth on the show floor (the shots of the booth above were taken by Matt Kloskowski, who was also teaching in the booth along with Dave Cross, RC and Corey Barker). Imaging USA is a really great show, and the booth was absolutely standing-room only during all the sessions. We’re back today with more free sessions (I’m doing my Retouching Sneak Peek again this morning), and then we’re taping a live episode of Photoshop User TV from the booth in the afternoon. It’s great seeing so many of my old friends (and getting to make new ones), and I really got a kick out of meeting so many people who read this blog each day. Hope to see more of you tomorrow!
- Want to be blown away by some incredible landscape photography? Check out the work of Elizabeth Carmel. She is just amazing (here’s the link).
- I know we have a lot of font freaks (like me) out there, and if you’re one, you’ll be interested to see MyFonts.com list of the most popular fonts of 2007. Click here to see the list (with samples of each font).
- I saw where Popular Photography named the Nikon D300 their “2007 Camera of the Year,” which is cool and all, but check out their video on the D300, which is even cooler (and shows how they picked it from a field of 8 new cameras, and why it won). You can watch it right on the pop-photo site (here’s the link).
- I was really psyched to see that CanonBlogger.com named my blog (The Photoshop Insider) as one of their seven best blog sites of 2007. Many thanks guys!!!
That’s it for Tuesday news (scroll down for 1 more post about viral videos). Hope you have a kick-butt day, and don’t forget to come by the Kelby Training Booth and say “hi” if you’re at the show today!

Elizabeth Carmel’s work is extraordinary! Thanks for the link.
Indeed! great work! by the way can i make a reccomendation or request for a future Kelby training course! (cant wait for the retouching one by the way) how about one on fantasy landscaping? i.e taking a landscape image and turning it into a photorealistic fantasy environment (or tropical or whatever). despite having skills in copying, moving, and adjusting components, its not quite the same moving a person, or an object as it is to creating an environment…
Hey Scott! I’ll try to make this quick (although it is difficult since I am currently bowing before you). Just wanted you to know that The Digital Photography Book is the single greatest photography book ever and I have already pre-ordered volume 2 so I can’t wait. I am personally responsibly for dozens of dollars flowing into your pockets through my own purchases and those forced upon others as gifts for me, or recommendations for colleagues.
I hate to ask a question because I know you really don’t have time to answer, but I’m giving it a shot anyway since you no longer have the Bucs to distract you this year. (sorry about that). Anyway, can you point me in the direction of where I would look or who I would talk to at a couple of major companies to ask about money and/or equipment for sponsorships? Like Canon and Epson for example. Even just the title of the right person would be of life-changing importance to me and my long-suffering family who continues to support my photographic career. Any ideas? Anybody at all? Anyone, please, I’m melting, I’m melting, I’m mel…………………
Thanks for passing along Elizabeth Carmel’s site – great talent. Thought you might also enjoy this landscape photographer’s work at http://www.peterhaigh.com/home/.
Hi Scott- Thanks for the compliments and the links to my site – I just wanted to say that NAPP has been instrumental in helping me with my photoshop image processing and printing skills. There are so many beautiful places on our planet to explore and photograph, and I enjoying sharing my views of a few of these natural landscapes through my web site and fine art prints.
Elizabeth Carmel Website is awesome. I really like her photographs.
thanks for sharing it with us.
Mike
Ditto on the link to Elizabeth’s site – really amazing stuff there. Also thanks for the shout out – was totally not expecting the mention IN your site Scott, but the generosity is (as always) very much appreciated. ( think that explains the jump in my site traffic from a few dozen a day to almost 1000 today! I fell about 100 short, but it was quite the thrill to see the analytics jump that much.) Maybe after 20 years or so (how long you been doing this?) I can do a little better, eh? Another couple font sources are http://www.dafonts.com and for some minis that were plugged over at Layers are http://www.minifonts.com Quite cool stuff there – and they even give you a few free demos to play around with. Fun stuff!
