Dan Margulis On Lab Color and Shakespeare (I’m not making this up)

As promised, here’s the full intro to Dan’s new advanced Photoshop Lab Color Frontier online class, and I posted the full intro for two reasons:

Dan’s the real deal. He’s brash, outspoken, and he “calls ‘em like he sees ‘em.” You’ve got to hear it in his own words. Plus, you’ve got to love any class intro that’s rated PG, and I particularly enjoy the way Dan both scares you away, and then at the same time nearly dares you to take his class.
You’ve got to watch the full intro because at one point not only does Dan somehow manage to draw a connection between Shakespeare and Photoshop Lab Color, but he actually kind of acts out a scene from Shakespeare’s King Henry IV, Part One. But here’s the most surprising thing; he does it so darn well (and knows the topic so well), that it’s really captivating (in a “Shakespeare goes to Brooklyn” kind of way). I promise you—you’ll love it. It can only be hours before this winds up on YouTube.com because it’s really, well…you just gotta watch it. Only Dan could pull this off.

So, lower the lights, hit the play button above, sit back and just watch. Oh yeah, it wouldn’t hurt to grab a glass of wine first. Or two.

OK, I’m hooked. I’d like to hear Dan do Henry V’s speech to his countrymen before the battle at Agincourt.

He can practice up on that (if he needs to) while I go review Lab color basics.

Scott, I really don’t have any idea what Dan just said in his intro, but it sure got my curiosity. I’m not far enough along in my Photoshop skills to know enough LAB color and the same goes for Shakespeare. I’ll have to dive a little deeper to unearth the mystery!

Compulsive viewing :o)

I almost feel that if I don’t take this class, Dan will make me stay behind for detention and order me to write out 1000 lines of “I must complete the Advanced Lab class” :o)

I had asked a question on Dan’s technique of changing color. He mentions a 3 key stroke way. I am trying it, I get the color to change, but the background color changes as well. Could he please explain?

Well. And to think about all the lost sleep pondering “to LAB, or not LAB, that is the question…”

As an English major turned technology teacher/hobbyist photographer, how cool was that!!!

Now, to find the time…

Your marketing ability is simply the most powerful I’ve ever seen. Scott, you seperate yourself from ALL the others by the following execption:

So, I’m trying Kelbytraining for a month. I see of Photoshop TV that Dan is a guest speaker. You bow to this gent, sing his praises to the likes that I’ve never seen and almost declare Dan the Jesus of Color.

A few days later he pops up on Kelbytraining with his line of video tutorials. Whereas one may see this as a sharp marketing ploy, which it is very smart marketing, but not a ploy, here is the one big difference between you and most every other “PS” Learning “Center” out there. YOU DELIVER. The NAAP and it’s staff deliver the most value I have ever seen, not only for PS and graphic arts but for any vertical market, at least, that I know of.

I’ve always said, though my short 3 year membership, that NAAP has the very best value, the very best information and the very best instructors in the market.
Good for you. Good for us.

I respect Dan. Almost everyone who has taken his class knows that this man is truly one of the best color retoucher and educator in the field.

The videos presented will get you started on the right path to his books and his class. It is an experience that no one will forget, meeting, learning and talking to Mr. Margulis.

Who can I contact to find out why I can’t convert a pict to LAB? When I try the Luminosity channel is black and the pict is black. In RGB the History thumbnail is black also. I need help because I was using LAB alot after reading Mr. Margulis. CS3 v 10.0 XP.
