Here’s what goin’ on:

  • Nikon just intro’d a new DSLR (the Nikon D60—photo above courtesy of Nikon), and two new lenses (the wide-angle PC-E NIKKOR 24mm f/3.5D ED with perspective control, and AF-S DX NIKKOR 16-85mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR lens). Get the full scoop where I got it; Moose’s News Blog. (While you’re at Moose’s blog; make sure you scroll down a bit and check out some of the amazing shots he got in Yellowstone at their most recent DLWS workshop. Incredible!).
  • If you’ve read this blog for any time at all, you already know I’m a Gitzo tripod freak, and if you’ve got the Gitzo fever, too; then check out the new Gitzo Tripod Configurator, which helps you find which Gitzo tripod is right for you based on how wealthy you are (OK, I’m kidding …but it doesn’t hurt). Actually, it helps you find the right tripod based on what kind of camera you have, what kind of lenses you use, and what kind shooting you do (it’s very well done). Here’s the link to configurate your day.
  • Photoshop Boy Genius Matt Kloskowski has been creating some really useful Lighroom presets, and making them downloadable for free from his “Lightroom Killer Tips” site for a while now. Well, Matt’s presets have become so popular, that some folks who’ve been downloading them have formed a flickr group (open to everyone). Here’s the link to the flickr group (get on board now!).
  • I don’t know this guy, but I love seeing this picture (click here).
  • Lastly, I came across this photographer while on photographer Darrell Kincer’s blog, and this is truly amazing stuff (it’s underwater photography, by photographer Zena Holloway, and it’s among the very best I’ve seen of it’s kind). It’s a must-see (here’s the link). Stunning!

That’s it for today, folks! Make it a great one! :-)

    Hi Scott!

Thanks for letting us know about Nikon’s new D60 camera!

It sounds like quite an improvement over its predecessor, the D40/D40x, with the dust-reduction system and EXPEED processing engine taken from the D300! Nikon must be really listening to their Enthusiast level customers, though it will be interesting no doubt to hear what the camera review press have to say about this camera in the coming months!

Hey, I hope you had a good time with those miniature Shetland Ponies yesterday. Dave and Matt mentioned you were doing that on yesterday’s episode of PhotoshopUser TV. You’ll have to post some photos of the farm where they are at on your site sometime.

Hey would you tell Dave and Matt how much I enjoyed yesterday’s Tutorials? They are ones I’m going to need over the next few days on my own work.

    See ya next week Scott!

    Hi Scott,
Your blog is the second link I check each morning. There’s always interesting news, something to make me smile, and great links to check out.

Here’s a link you might like http://www.richardcalmes.com/ It’s the best dance photography I’ve seen.

Scott, the Gitzo Tripod Configurator is great — I used it last week to select my new GT-2540LVL — you just have to pay special attention to the weights reported.

There appears to be a small bug that incorrectly converts metric units (Kg) to imperial units (lbs) — imperial weights for max load and tripod weight are under represented (though I do wish my tripod was only 0.8 lbs light!). The metric units seem to be the correct one, so use those until a fix is posted.

    Cheers!

Canon already answered to D60 with their new camera 450D (http://web.canon.jp/imaging/eosd/eosdigital4/index.html) … I personally think both are quite good innovations for the biggest market class.

Does anybody have seen D60 vs. 450D in depth comparison?

    Hi Scott,

Great news on the D60, but I’m still saving for my D3 (or maybe a D4 by the time my penny jar is full).

    Thanks for the link!

    Regards,

Scott Kelby you ROCK! Thank you for helping me to take my photography to the next level. I am just getting started and I finally have found my true passion, where God wants me to be. I love photography have since a child, and now I can put it all together. I love doing weddings, and was just wanting you thoughts on the idea of “shoot and drop” (I think thats what its called) where I take photos of the wedding and just put on CD for the couple and never do anything else. Anyway thank you soo much for all your information.
