Tuesday News Nuggets
Hi Everybody. Here’s what’s up:
Popular Photography is running a very cool “Digital Wizard” contest, where you download 12 of their images and use Photoshop to create your own collage/montage Photoshop-effect extravganza, and if you win, you could pick up a cool $1,000. Here’s the link with all the details.Just some trivia: yesterday on Amazon.com, McNally’s book “The Moment it Clicks” is so hot that it got up to number 11 of ALL books on Amazon.com—ranking ahead of even the latest Harry Potter book. Come on, that’s pretty darn cool! Congratulations to Joe for taking photography books to a whole new level! (P.S. Here’s the latest review I’ve come across–this one from Michael Clark Photography).
If you’re going to Photoshop World in Orlando this April; make sure you enter the Guru Awards contest, because now the awards ceremony is being held at a local art gallery, where that evening your work will be displayed, and the highlight of the awards ceremony (hosted by Larry Becker) will be a special presentation from living photography legend, Jay Maisel. What an amazing night!
I’m a sucker for great car photography, which is why I love the work of photographer Graham Westmoreland. Click on his Folio 1 to see his car work (once you’re there, there’s no obvious navigation, so click on an image to move to the next one), but make sure you take the time to check out this other two Folios—this guy is really good! Here’s the link.
That’s it for today. Don’t forget—catch the show tonight. It’s as lame as ever!

Scott: Couldn’t find the usual “contact me” at this site so I’m using this comment page to leave you a note. I always put you right up at the top of the small group of people I rely on for PS advice. But now, I’ve discovered something new that gives you even greater props.
Tomorrow is my birthday (February 6th) and I am a woman of that “certain” (not young) who has become addicted to PS – introduced to it late in life. I had a wish list on Amazon including InDesign and your book “The Photoshop Channels Book”. Think that’s a huge gulf in price? Excuse me while I giggle a bit. Needless to say, my sweet hubby bought me your book instead of InDesign and gave it to me early. Last night I discovered I got the best of the two Amazon wishes.
I always read books thoroughly, even the acknowledgements because that tells me something about the person I’m going to rely on for information. Your last paragraph in the acknowledgements took me by surprise and then made me smile all night. It’s not as though I think authors are all heathen, it’s just that few acknowledge, unashamedly where their blessing derive from.
Thanks, Scott. I’m already loving the book.
P.S. At the time of your writing, Kira was not yet born. I know she is even more than what you dreamed of – they always are.
Wahoo! Joe’s book is now #10 at Amazon! Scott — i can’t thank you enough for leading Joe down that lonely road in Vermont. The photographers’ world is a better place because of that walk.

Whooooo….. top ten! Yeah, Baby!
Everyone needs to read this book.

In regards to the TV show, you’re not saying if 130am is eastern time or pacific time or what. Not all of us live in Florida (I’m in California). Also, my cable TV listing is showing “Paid Programming” all through the night. Is that right or does it supposed to actually say the name of your show?

Every thing you said about Joe McNally’s book, The Moment It Clicks, was understated. Each pair of pages gives the reader a chance to learn about the human and tech side behind the excellent picture. I was actually driven to Amazon review the book with max stars. Thanks again for your part in making this book a reality. My only problem is I’m hooked, is Joe writing a sequel? The peachpit.com registration did not produce any additional pdf “pages”.
Hello Scott,
This is off topic, but I found this neat site call PicLens. It allows one to see all their photos in flowing scrolling images. The download is free and when one goes to let’s flicker, boom you hit the arrow and all the photos “blossom: out in full view .
Perhaps you know this site, but for me it was a real find!
