You Did it!!! The Orphanage is Back on Track!!!!
Hi gang. I got the official update yesterday from Molly and Joseph Bail on how the fund raising has been going to finish the roof and complete the orphanage in Kenya.
They needed just over $49,000 total to get the orphanage finished, furnished, and up and running, and I am absolutely thrilled to report that they now, thanks in part to your efforts, have over $64,000 and tomorrow Molly, Joseph and their son Elijah (pictured here) are flying back to Kenya for an entire year to feed, clothe, and care for these children.
I heard again and again how check and Paypal donations have been coming in (still averaging at least three a day from readers of this blog), and I am so touched and thankful to have such wonderful, caring and compassionate readers. There are even readers who have pledged monthly donations to help feed and clothe these children (if you’re so moved, here’s the link).
Gang, this was a BIG win! You did something really special—something really important in the big picture, and I can’t thank you all enough for your generosity and support for getting this project back on track!
I’ll be sure to post photos when the roof is finished, and from the opening day (which won’t be too far away now!) Please keep Molly, Joseph, and their son Elijah, in your prayers going forward, and thanks again for making a difference in the life of a child. — Scott
P.S. I’ve received some emails from readers who have just gotten their first copies of my CS4 Book for Digital Photographers. As soon as the Spiral-bound editions hit our warehouse, I’ll sign them and get them right out to you all!

I just watched an online video with 3 pro photographers (one of them being David Hobby) about the power and effectiveness of photo blogs these days. One of the main points that was made was not to use blogging as a tool for self-promotion, but rather as a way to contribute back to the community in the effort to improve the world of photography overall. This is by far the most powerful thing I’ve seen come from a photo blog, and it’s a statement that well represents what a purposeful blog is. It’s one of the reasons that I read this every day. -M
Now that the posting problem is fixed, I’ll try this again.
Scott, are you interested in a work party for your friends? I’d sure be willing to go over for a week or 10 days with some other guys (you? Matt? 8 of your loyal readers?) and apply some hammer and paint to the place. Life has been awfully good to many of us, and it wouldn’t hurt to gie some of it back in time and energy.
Of course, a short photo safari, **after** the work is complete, wouldn’t hurt, either.
People would pay their own way, of course. Can your Molly and Joseph use the help?
Chris
Scott, my church is very involved in Nakuru, Kenya with an incredible Boy’s home. I’m thankful that your friends are doing His work. Thanks for keeping their story posted.

Hi Scott! I am just blessed by your involvement with the orphanage over there! I am very excited about this project and would love to go over and help out myself. Anyhow, I can’t wait till I get your CS4 book. Many blessings, BRAD
I think it is great that you use the resources that you have accumulated over time to help out such a good cause like this. It really goes a long way to show the type of character that you have. It makes me that much happier to spend my money on your books and training videos.
Scott- you did the hard part, donating money and writing the book in the first place. All we did was pay a little more to help a good cause. I echo Chris’ comment above about getting a work group together to help build. I know you’re super busy with PSW and your other projects, but I bet you’d fill a group pretty quickly with the chance to travel, help a worthy cause and take a few pictures at the same time. -Jeremy
Hello… it has been a while since I odered this book, any word on when these should be shipping?
