You can open new camera raw files in CS3 if you convert to DNG first, do you not tell the people who ask you that??

George- camera raw 5.2 is available for the latest versions of Elements (version 7 on the PC or version 6 on the Mac), but it is a stripped down version. It only has the basic panel, tone curve and camera calibration panels. No adjustment brush, ND filter, etc. It does however allow you to process raw files from the latest cameras (within its limitations).

Amazing! I thought I was learning a lot about CS4 on my own (while I'm waiting for Scott's book to come in) but I stopped this video 7 times to check a feature in CS4 I didn't know about. Just listening doesn't do it for me, I have to practice. I love that I can listen to/watch two or three times to really understand something. This is a real gift, guys. Thanks!

Hello Scott, Matt & Dave,

Is camara raw 5.2 available in the latest PS Elements?
And does it have the same features?
The budget-minded folks want to know! LOL

Peace,

The new adjustment panel is a HUGE improvement over CS3, especially how it can automatically clip the adjustment layer into the one directly below it.

Three cheers for the Photoshop TV Terrific Trio. You guys ROCK. I have to admit that I am one of the folks that asked the question on your blog about why I should consider going to CS4. You’ve given me enough reasons in two installments that I probably don’t need the other two (but I’ll watch them anyway just to be sure the hook is set). I will be upgrading from CS3 Extended to CS4 Extended and also from Lightroom 1 to Lightroom 2 as soon as I can. I’m sure I can convince the spousal unit this is a good thing as well since she and I are both learning Photoshop together. You guys will probably see us in a CS4 class when it comes to Tampa.

By the way, did you know that if you have CS3 Extended you have to upgrade to CS4 Extended? I have not used any of the extended features so I thought I’d save some duckies and just go to regular CS4. I spoke with the folks at Photoshop and no can do. Too bad.

I can’t wait until Thursday …

>You mention that if you have a Canon 5D MK2 that you need CS4 to open and work with raw files…..Is it not possible to upgrade the RAW converter in CS3 and still be able to do this?

No. You either need to upgrade to CS4 for the new version of ACR OR convert those files to DNG using the stand-alone free converter, as Dan above pointed out. Then you can use the older version of ACR with the newer camera files. Of course, you don't have any of the cool new features of ACR 5. Or just get Lightroom 2.0. It supports 5DMK2.
