Friday “Quick Town” Post
Today’s the deadline for my book, so I’m going to make this even shorter and sweeter:
I just saw Photoshop World instructor Lesa Snider King’s new book, “Photoshop: The Missing Manual” (from O’Reilly Press), and it so reminded me of when Deke McClellend used to write, “The Photoshop Bible,” (which I loved) because it literally covers everything about Photoshop (it’s nearly 900 pages!). Lesa did a great job on the book, and in my mind, it is the new Photoshop Bible. Way to go Lesa!!!!
Here’s the link to it on Amazon.com
- Just a reminder: Today’s the last day for the Photoshop World Early Bird “Save a hundred bucks” thing. Here’s the link. Also, the Sheraton Boston is almost sold-out, but the Westin (my favorite hotel chain) Copely Place (attached to the convention center) still has a few rooms available (it’s a great hotel) so snag one now!!!
- Today is “iPhone app of the Week” day over at Terry White’s Tech Blog (here’s the link).
- I did an interview last night on the radio show “Your Mac Life.” We talked about Photoshop World, and photography, and books and stuff. If you’ve got a minute, check it out right here.
- If you haven’t seen the “Amtrack Tripod Arrest” covered by Comedy Central, it is absolutely hilarious (and sadly, it’s true, but the way they covered it is just brilliant!). Here’s the link to the short video. You’ll love it!
- I had some really big news this week; here’s the link.
- For those who asked; I bought the smaller Elinchorm Beauty Dish (Not the 27″ one, and it’s because I read your comments about how cumbersome it is to use on location. Thanks for the tip!).
- Check out these stick-on filters for your off-camera flash. Pretty slick!
OK, gotta get back to writing. Have a great weekend everybody, and I’ll see you back here on Monday!

Congratulations on your publishing accolade. Only started following the blog and PhotoShop user TV about 4 month ago and have to say I really enjoy your approach. As a teacher of 12 to 18 year old students I think I can say that your teaching approach, preparation and delivery is outstanding.
All the best
Woo hoo for the fifth consecutive year! You rock!

Hey Scott,
Did you see SNL’s “Sir Mix-a-lot’s Photo Shop” skit last saturday? It was hilarious and a brilliant use of the liquify filter. The whole premise was to retouch every photo to give everyone a big booty… much funnier to see, i promise. Here’s a link, check it out.

Congratulations Scott. Really a great accomplishment to stay at the top and always adding to the value of your material…thank you for continuing to deliver great stuff!
Congratulations! “Scott Kelby Is Top-Selling U.S. Computer Book Author for 2008″ Your hard work is helping so many people.
Congrats. It must have been me pimping you out last year. Telling everyone to buy the Digital Phoography book and the IPhone book.
Also, The Amtrak video was great.
Thx, Glenn
I saw it coming, but it’s still amazing: CONGRATULATIONS, you best-selling-computer-book-author-of-all-time, you!!!!!!! It’s a huge pleasure to know you and to design for you! ~jessicam
Congratulations Scott. I have several of your books and thoroughly enjoy your writing style. It’s not often that I can find myself laughing due to the authors wit while reading a book to learn more about a software product.
Congratulations Scott – you deffinately deserve it!
Congratulations Scott on the success of your books in 2008. I personally own 7 of your books and I can totally understand why you have continued success. I hope this streak continues for you and even grows. I will always be an avid and enthusiastic follower!!
Carlos Miller reported on his ‘Photography is Not a Crime – It’s a First Amendment Right’ blog yesterday that Duane Kerzic received a “five-figure settlement” from Amtrak as a result of his arrest for photographing trains in December.
We may have to win our First Amendment rights back one settlement at a time unfortunately.
The amtrack video was funny but, like you said, sad. Why are people so freaked out by pro gear?
Hey Scott,
Another book to be added to my collection when your Down & Dirty comes out. Now for another subject.
I never was a fan of black & white until I downloaded the OnOne update this week. One of their presets changed my mind. The first default shown absolutely blew me away. And then…I opened the CS4 book for digital photographers. “Scott’s Favorite High-Contrast B&W Technique is now mine. Oh my gosh!!!
With what you show in the book along with the layer masks so you can copy the original G layer and then paint the mask to really add contrast.
SCOTT YOU ARE THE MAN!!!
Thanks for all you do,
Mike
