Friday News Wrap-up
Whoo Hooo! It’s Friday!!!
Before we get into the news, I just wanted to thank this week’s Guest Blogger Tim Mantoai for his wonderful post (and images) this week. If you look at the comments readers posted about his story, you see the word “Inspirational” is about every other post, and right now I think a lot of us needed that. Thanks Tim, and my thanks to Brad for his help in bringing Tim’s work and words to the blog this week.
Now, Here’s what’s up:
- Yesterday, one of my readers let me know that a graphic we created for an email campaign (shown above) was featured on PhotoshopDisasters.com. It seems that the top of the logo on the football was cut-off, and that’s pretty messed up (as you can see). Anyway, when I saw it over on PhotoshopDisasters.com, I just totally cracked up! Sadly, that’s the least of what sneaks by us sometimes, but of course, then I had to go and fire the designer who created it (Kidding!). Thanks PhotoshopDisasters for keeping us honest!
- We finally did get Episode #2 of D-Town TV (The new weekly show for Nikon DSLR users) posted online late yesterday afternoon, and it includes a great tip for setting up your camera for shooting HDR, along with a bonus video from Matt and how to process the HDR file created by your camera using Photomatix (along with our other camera tips). If you haven’t caught the new episode yet, you can watch it right here.
- A big shout out and thanks to Web100.com for including “The Photoshop Insider” as #35 in their Top 100 “Best in Photography” list of photo sites. I was pretty psyched! Here’s the link to their top 100 list.
- Lastly, for some wonderful weekend inspiration, check out the work of photographer Loretta Lux. It’s a very different style, but her stuff rocks!!!! Here’s the link.
That’s it for today. Have a great weekend everybody, and we’ll see you back here on Monday.

You guys made it!! You’re finally on photoshopdisasters.com!!!! LOL
Glad you liked Loretta Lux Scott; with many of the current styles being on the saturated and heavy side, I think the subtle style of her work is a really nice change.
Apropos her technique, I included a request in your call for things we would like to see in your ‘Down and Dirty’ book on how it was done, but unfortunately it didn’t make it. Perhaps in a forthcoming episode of Photoshop User TV?
Regards: Anthony.
Hmmm… Loretta Lux. I don’t know what to say. I guess the word that comes to mind is, say, creep. Cool work, but creep.
PhotoshopDisasters is sitting 5 tabs down the queue in my daily browsing setup. I was wondering how/if you’d respond. You’re a big man, Scott, to take the “honor” with such humor and good grace.
I’m with Stephen on Loretta Lux. I’m thinking Norman Rockwell crossed with Children of the Damned.
I would be interested in how that effect was achieved. I can see it but I’m not good enough to break down what I’m seeing.
I just love the variety of creative expression you introduce on here Scott! Loretta Lux is certainly very artistic and her work is extremely unique. Maybe it’s the fact that none of the children are smiling that we find a bit discomforting but hey children don’t always smile do they? I agree with Anthony that the subtle style of her work is pleasing!
Thanks again for a great week of info. and have a great weekend!
Regarding Loretta Lux, love her stuff, honestly. However, it does have a very…um…efficient, German quality to it. All kidding aside, the light, natural colors are fantastic and she does a great job of maintaining texture while letting in more light.
HI Scott,
Thanks for the candor in your work. It gives me hope

Awesome, I love when people can poke fun at them selves.
I am taking some photography classes right now and a couple of Lorretta Lux’ photos are in both of my textbooks and I have to admit that her photos just creep me out. She does an excellent job with lighting & texture qualities but there is just such a sad empty look to the children in the photos.
Just so people are clear, Scott didn’t design the piece that got on the PhotoshopDisasters site.
Thanks for the link to Loretta Lux. Definitely a unique style. Always good to see imagery from alternative perspectives.
Thanks!

And here I thought you guys were going to claim the ‘aged tattoo’ design for the football faux. (smile) Thanks to everyone out there always looking for something to add to photoshopdisasters.com we’ll all be on out toes a bit more.
But, I’m wondering if the designer is going to admit their slip – just so we can get in some friendly ribbing. (smile)
While many of the posts to the disasters site makes me go ARGH, this one made me laugh. (smile)
I have always found Loretta’s works interesting. Thanks for posting!
