Micro Mini Indy Shooting Report
Hi gang:
I am so incredibly tired, after three days of non-stop shooting in the hot sun, starting at 7:30 am, and shooting literally thousands of shots, I’m am just plain tuckered out. I didn’t have time to put any shots together, so I threw together this thumbnail grid in Lightroom of just a few shots that mix the fun with the action (click on it for a larger view).
Tomorrow I’m going to do a more in-depth post, with lots of details about shooting an event like this, but tonight—I just wanna go to bed!
Thanks for putting up with “lame mini-blog Monday” but I should be back in form tomorrow, so I’ll see you then.

Zzzzzzzzzz

Damm Scott thanks for even posting that.
Am really looking forward to the post.
You getting sleep? Unheard of. Shot SGK2622.NEF looks like Elle MacPherson on the left.
Hi Scott,
The Lightroom grid view looks awesome but hey what’s this apologizing all about?
) Go get some shut eye – even you have to sleep (occasionally
)
Best wishes,
Glyn
a good site and creative ..
GOOG INFORMATION
Cant wait
How do you ever get any sleep with all that you do?!?!? Rest peacefully and I look fwd to tomorrow’s blog!
even just this is pretty darn cool for what you only consider to be bread crumbs. You have set the bar really high for yourself and it does not go unnoticed… your the man!!!!
Danica’s wreck — looks like you were near that chicane when it happened — I kinda thought I saw you on ESPN…. Looks like a blast! Looking forward to the full post — get some sleep though eh?
Can I get you some Motrin? I was there Friday & Saturday about 5 hours each day. I’m still sore.
We’ll have the coffee on for ya. Nothing like brain tired AND body tired to let you know you are still gainfully employed.
You need to think about picking a day to think about pacing yourself. Not that you will. Even race cars need a pace car.
Scott,
What is the battery situation like on a shoot like that? How many batteries do you run through? Do you have to recharge in the middle of the day? Do you ever run into situations where you don’t have access to electricity to recharge your camera batteries, but you are taking so many shots that you are in danger of running out of juice?
Rest up, then when you return run Matt’s tutorial on a quick and dirty b/w conversion on the LR grid capture you did to see how they all will look!
Danica must have caught a glimpse of you just before she crashed.
I’m liking the wide angle shots!
I hear ya Scott! Motorsports shooting is fun & getting track access is great, but it’s a lot of walking, it’s hot, and you end up feeling pretty rough after you’ve had you’re 3 or fouth track meal. The upside is that the racing community has some of the nicest people on Earth.
Shhhhhhhhh,
I don’t want to wake Scott. When he gets up, tell him nice work as usual!
I hear ya Scott – I’ve done Formula 1 races (http://ronmart.blogspot.com/2008/08/formula-1-photography-update.html) and shot 2500 shots a day and a few days later I was wondering what mysterious disease was infecting my finger, but it really was just fatigue from shooting so much!
It’s fun though and definitely worth it!
Scott, Just came back from a shoot at Infinion Raceway in Sonoma CA where they had a vintage sports car event (all cars pre 67) Spoke to a guy who had a trailer setup for photographing all the cars & selling the pictures to the drivers at the event. He shot all his pictures with a Nikkor 600mm f4. That lens must weigh in at 15+ pounds and is enormous, but gives fantastic results. The compression of cars at speed is pretty powerfull, and you can be in a safer place for head on shots.
FYI
derek
Scott,
Just noticed that your RAW files are still in .NEF format. I read the advantages to DNG in a couple of your books a just curious why you didn’t covert them to .DNG when you imported them into LR.
thanks
Scott,
I noticed you still have your “What I’d love to see in Lightroom 2.0″ post online. Would it not be the right time to remove this and open a more up-to-date “What I’d love to see in LR 3.0″ post (probably even a bit late given development cycle).
Also, how about a “My Projects” area where you post what books you are currently working on (at least the ones that you don’t need to keep secret). Would be great to see this … and potentially also one from Matt …
Love your work, BTW.
I’ve got to get a press pass for next year!! I am so envious! It looks like you figured out the cut outs…LOL
