You’re Invited To My Landscape Photography Digital Workshop in Savannah, Georgia
On June 24-28, thirty photographers will join me, along with landscape photography legend Bill Fortney, and fine art photographer Joanne Wells, for a photography and digital imaging workshop in the beautiful surroundings of Savannah, Georgia that will change how you shoot and process your images forever. You’re invited to be one of those thirty photographers.
This workshop, produced by the wonderful folks over at the “Great American Photography Workshops,” will combine on-location shoots each day, with classroom time focused on one topic; how to create stunning landscape images.
We start each day with a dawn photo shoot at some of the most beautiful shooting locales in the entire South. Then, after we break for a yummy breakfast, we’re in the classroom where you’ll learn about digital photography, about processing your images in Photoshop, and about how to combine the two to create really captivating images.
After lunch, we’re back in the classroom for more learning, and then as the beautiful light descends upon Savannah, we’re back on location shooting landscapes. After our shoot, we break for dinner to unwind and talk about the day’s experiences.
Now, I have to tell you, this will be the third landscape workshop I’ve done with Bill Fortney, and Bill really knows how to make these workshops an awful lot of fun. You’ll learn a bunch, you’ll laugh a bunch, and you’ll come away with some images that not only will wind up in your portfolio, you’ll definitely be framing and hanging some of these on the wall.
Because of my schedule, this is the only landscape workshop I’ll be teaching this year, and as someone that reads my blog, I hope you’ll be able to come to spend these five-days with me, Bill, and Joanne shooting, laughing and learning in the beautiful scenery of Savannah.
It’s $795 for the workshop, and obviously, space is very limited (both of our previous workshops were sold out well in advance), so if you want to go, here’s a link to more details and where to register. I really hope I’ll see you there, because this is a workshop you’ll never forget!

Boy would I love to attend. I have always wanted to visit Savannah, Georgia. That is going to be one kick butt workshop. I love the photo on the post. Did you take that Scott? Super awesome. I will definitely do what I can to attend the next one.
Hi Crash:
I believe the shot is Joanne’s. She’s local to Savannah, and has some wonderful work. That image is the one GAPW is using in conjunction with the workshop, so I have to believe it’s hers, but if I find out differently, I’ll let you know.
-Scott
Yes it is Joanne’s she is a great shooter!
Savannah is one beautiful old south city. There are the ’squares’ which were highlighted in the film Forrest Gump, the downtown old buildings, wrought iron, great trees, and interesting people. Even the Cemetery us neat. The river and the old stores/shops along the river are great to roam, and there are interesting bridges and other features to take pictures of, including the old Fountain on Forstyhe, where the film Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil was based. Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) did a huge part of the restoration of downtown with its buildings and historic preservation major. It is a vibrant city. Just less than a hour you have Hilton Head, Tybee Beach, and the low country, and the trees, the beaches and the river and ocean lead to all sorts of great shots.
There really is a lot to take in. It sounds like a great workshop.

Sounds like it is going be a blast!! Have you ever thought of taking a group to the “Springs of hope”?
I can’t wait to see how this workshop will workout out. I was wondering if there is an age limit or restriction for the workshop?
Thanks.
Scott this sounds awesome …. I’ve wanted to do one of the DLWS events but they always sell out quickly hopefully there is still space for this one. How much photoshop know how will be required as i am basic a lightroom guy
This really hurts, I would go but have a wedding to attend on June 27. It really really hurts!!
Oh, man, I live only an hour from Savannah and the downtown is beautiful. It always makes me think I’m somewhere far away on vacation … even if visiting just for a few hours. Unfortunately, the seminar is way out of my price range since I’m a part-time-just-for-fun-and-a-little-extra-money photographer. You guys are gonna love it though!! Just hate that I’m gonna miss it!
Like Crash says – that photo is stunning. I went to Savannah once, a long time ago, would love to go again….alas not in time for this workshop though.
When you coming this side of the pond Scott? Be great to see some of your live workshops here…..
I was stationed in Beaufort, SC from 1998-2002 and we made the trip down to Savannah, GA many times (there was nothing to do in Beaufort). It is an amazingly beautiful place! The photographers that attend this conference are going to be in for a real treat each and every day.
Any chance there’s a scholarship program for my soldier son who’s serving as a PhotoJournalist at nearby Ft. Stewart? That’d be pretty sweet!!
Sounds interesting. It would be nice to go back to Savannah on an organized photo shot. Is this for SLR/DSLR shooters only? I ask because my spousal unit would be interested but is still a point and shoot user. I’m trying to get her to make the jump to the dark side.
I just talked to my wife. I have the time and the means to get there for June … the only thing is … would there be things to for my wife and 1 year old son?
Anybody know?
Thanks
I was there last new year. There are great trolley tours of the city, Tybee island with it’s great beaches is only 25 minutes away. There are also haunted tours at night, I believe. It is a great city to walk around. I got some fantastic shots at Savannah. Good luck
I really wish I could go to this. Unfortunately I play in a band and already booked that whole weekend. Bummer that is the only one you are doing all year.
Man, I’d love to go. I’ve never been to Savannah.
Savannah is beautiful! Whoever is going on this workshop is bound to get amazing images.
Of course, Forsyth Park in Savannah is a must-see. I was recently there and captured a few images, such as this one: http://elbelbelb2000.blogtog.com/archives/6297_1579073640/325874.
And of course, the historic buildings in Savannah are not to miss either (one example: http://elbelbelb2000.blogtog.com/archives/6297_1579073640/325869)
Good luck and have fun to everyone attending!
I wonder how much time will be spent on Photoshop… and in what version? I already have a workflow setup and I live pretty happy with Aperture, Photoshop Elements, and a couple of Nik Software plug-ins. I’m not interested in fighting this… I’m very interested in pushing in landscape photography… so I wonder how all will be balanced?
Thanks!
Hello Scott,
I know you are a VERY busy man, so any helpful info is appreciated.
Love your books, love your style of teaching and wonderful sense of humor. I am unable to make the Savannah training. I live in the St.Augustine area. Do you offer any other training sessons? Or have a specific book to recommend?
Thank you!
Bill Fortney and JoAnne Wells are great additions to the workshop -talk about a trifecta! I was thinking about attending a workshop led by Craig Tanner from The Mindful Eye a while back when I was living in SC, as Savannah was very close. Never could muster up the purse strings to pull the trigger though. Too bad this happened later as I could have swung this workshop – have fun with those who are able to attend!
Shoot, I would LOVE to attend. I’m here until the end of May for school at the Savannah College of Art and Design. However, my brother’s wedding falls during that week, so I won’t be able to attend.
Have a good time!
Scott,
First, kelbytraining.com rocks! Second, I recently had the great pleasure of doing a DLWS in Kauai with Moose, Joe, Laurie, and Kevin. What an awesome program they have going!! Quick question: is your workshop geared specifically to Nikon users, or will those of us Canon renegades be at home as well?
Thanks for sharing all the knowledge and passion.
Eric
San Francisco
Hi Eric:
Although Bill and I are both Nikon shooters, it’s not a “How to use your camera” workshop; it’s about photography, and we always get Canon, Olympus, Nikon, Pentax, and well, pretty much everybody, so you’ll feel right at home no matter what you shoot.
Hope you’re able to join us!
-Scott
Hey Scott!
I wish I could attend as well. I’ll be working sadly. I did however get to spend St. Patty’s in Savannah and will be down there all next week. I did get to shoot the plantation however, when I last visited. If your interested on my interpretation of the photo in your post, I’d be honored for you to check out my blog. You’ll find the shot posted on March 20th, 2009. Keep the good information coming. http://www.marcpaynephotoblog.com/ Oh, and honest critiques on my blog or photography is greatly appreciated, especially coming from such a respected member of the photography community.

Wow! A workshop right here at home!! How exciting! Maybe I should try to go. It could help shed a new light on the city that I grew up in! Checking info now!

Wow, wish I could do this one. If you ever do one of these in the 4 Corners area (AZ, NM, CO, UT) please post about it. I’ll be the first signup for that one. Plus it would be an easier commute for me!
Hi Scott,
I am really excited, I just received my confirmation for the Savannah workshop. I can’t Wait!!!
I’m so excited to attend this event. I’m still a fairly amateur photographer, so I hope I can keep up and don’t embarrass myself too much. See you in Savannah!
I am the office manager of the GAPW and have really enjoyed reading all of the relpies to the message. For all of those that are thinking about registering for this event, I only have 4 spaces available. We weren’t kidding when we said it would fill fast! I hope to hear from you soon – the number to register is 866-747-4279.
Chess King rocked! I wish there were a modern equivalent now.
Fake or Photo was quite interesting. The ones I was most certain about are the ones I got wrong lol.
I just learned of this workshop today and I LIVE in Savannah! I wish to make it if someone cancels. This place is SO Beautiful! I just love it here being a transplant from Houston and growing up in the Louisiana Bayou… its like a “cleaner version of HOME!”
Here is a pic I shot of the Ogeechee River in Savannah.
